Thank you so much WOTC for bringing back the table top format with the pro tour set up. I will now be returning to watch pro scene again. I haven’t been this excited since eldritch moon pro tour
These games were fantastic, and Marshall and Paul put on a clinic with their commentary. I was on the edge of my seat the entire time, and couldn’t help but share in their excitement. It’s great to be back to paper magic!
What a match ! When both players can win from scratch in a single turn, we're in for a nail biter. Loved to see all the clutch interactions from both side. Boy that was amazing.
This was the moment Reid deserved to become champion. Such calmness and composure with decisive answers really made the difference. That attack at 1:30:00 won him the match.
Haha, I kept thinking that one of the commentators sounded just like Marshall from Wristwatch Revival which is one of my favourite channels. Well, I wasnt wrong 😅
Hullbreaker horror can send it back on Nathan's hand while it is still on the stack. Hexproof only works if the permanent is in play. You can counter hexproof creatures
while you can counter creatures with hexproof Sphinx of the final world explicitly says it cant be countered. The difference here is that it wasn't countered just send back to hand while on stack
Can you imagine if he lost the match after not doing Creativity for 3 in game one? I was curious why he didn't do that in the first place given that you know deck lists.
Is it me or does Nathan Steuer look younger than last year ? Vs Eli Kassis I'm certain he looked much older From the view of the stream I was like whose this kid that Reid Duke is playing lol , no disrespect !
I wonder what reid did for sideboarding here? In game 2 it seemed like he maybe boarded out his combo, but then boarded it back in for the other games??
@@Sreboocs at least creativity has some interaction, and can win in other ways beyond combo off. Lotus Field combo does nothing but combo. No interaction whatsoever.
Remember everyone, when playing Lotus Field make them play out their combo even if you can't stop it. If youre lucky, the match will go to time and you'll get a draw...and maybe the Lotus player won't make top8.
@@garagavia I think everyone who’s ever played against it understands what’s going on since they have plenty of time to watch it while the other guy is playing solitaire. It’s just an unbelievably tedious deck to play against which is unfortunately numerous. How field of the dead is still banned but they are ok with this less interactive, more boring, more resilient and generally more powerful land is dumb as rocks.
They don't bother to even tell us the format anymore? I guess they retired modern and legacy so hard they don't even bother to act like there's multiple formats anymore.
there is a simple way to nerf a lot of these decks. add a 25 minute timer that runs down on each player during their turn. they run out of time, they lose
i mean, lots of countermagic and boseiju shenanigans but that's just what combo decks do. I'd argue that a red deck pointing 7 burn spell at your face is no more interactive, and a white deck running you over on turn 4 with a god draw isn't either. Not all matchups can be midrange vs midrange. Also much rather this than control vs control snoozefest
@@Skytho Games 3-5 were much better, but 1 and 2 were two players essentially playing solitaire. Give me a red deck vs a white deck over those two games any day, because at least those go quick.
What do you mean, all matches were very entertaining, specially the sideboard mental games Reid played on Nathan! Very interesting decisions, the gameplay itself is just a fraction of the skills the players had to showcase during this match
Remember when winning the pro tour was important? Now this is a glorified grand prix (Grand Prix was replaced my Magic Fest, which in turn was replaced by Magic Con), and WotC cared more about previewing new product than it did who won this event.

It is SOOO great to have paper magic tourneys back! The coverage is fantastic such a professional operation. Great job all around!
Great coverage as always! Thank you Marshall and Paul ;)

man! this is so epic and I can;t help but smile after that win
Please do more of these I love the pro tour
Best MTG match I`ve seen! Congratulations Reid, played like a champ
he ultimately became a champ
he is a champ
Thanks for sharing the live talk of the players
What an awesome match! lethal with the little shark token that could
Hey! That's Marshall Sutcliffe from Wristwatch Revival!
That first face to face was soooo akward by Nathan XD
Duke has so much grace. He is a real credit to the game and always a model to emulate . What a show!

Can somebody please explain to me how did he managed to counter Sphinx of the final word? It has hexproof.

Congratulations Reid Duke on Making it to the Finals! This was a great Match to Watch! Also Nathan’s deck is super sweet!
I'm glad Duke got the win, but I got a say this was a much more entertaining match then the Finals... No, I won't spoil anything.
"won't spoil anything"... 10 secs into this vid an I know who wins.. 👍
does omniscience allow u to play cards from graveyard for free?
No. Omniscience only allows the player to play cards from their hand. Nowhere does the card mention the word "graveyard."
Reid was tired of playing fair. Beautiful reverse sweep! As reid was flipping cards in game 5 LET HIM COOK!!
Amazing match from both players!
I love watching paper over Arena
Reid getting hit hard TWICE by Boseiju. He's never going to forget that card again

woah! that game 4 by Reid!!! surprise!!!
That Curiosity combo was fun to watch.
Reid Duke is very consistent 4 so many years! Definetly the best MTG player that I know.
You must have never heard of a guy by the name of Jon.

Only Magic Pro Tour would leave a 3 minute timed break in the video they had time to edit :/
What format is this? Pioneer?

this was so impressive
what a round! GG
Absolutely looove playing combo decks, hate playing against them and saying "yeah it resolves" 370 times
Damn the legend vs the champion
That sideboard between games 3 and 4 where Reid put the combo back in was such a power move.
It's not a power move. He needs the combo to threaten a quick win.
Thats my 🐐
I wonder what reid did for sideboarding here? In game 2 it seemed like he maybe boarded out his combo, but then boarded it back in for the other games??
Congratulations to Reid.
Long live to paper mtg.
is that Matt Berry
Why isn’t lotus field not playing reservoir ?
Karn the Great Creator says hello
Approach is a much cleaner kill
Holy shit.. the sideboard tech...
Epic !!
Wow Reid Duke Epic Comeback!
Don't hate on Lotus Field, it's cool
Every match lotus field dont win is a good match.
Unfortunately it was a match between two combo decks
@@Sreboocs Yeah but one of them kills you in a blast and dont take 5 minutes

Cool

Well if you are playing a wonky deck with a lot of moving pieces, you get got. Fair play to me

This literally exists on mtgo and these decks still perform lol.
games like game 1 make me think there should be player timers, thats just absurd. keeps many people away from the format imo.
I think it's cool that those kind of deep combo lines are also available.
Ah yes PvE Lotus field combo gameplay lol

i want reid duke to play canadian highlander 1 time
