  • The basis of industrial design involves utilitarian surfaces, stripped back architecture, and salvaged objects. Industrial style has exploded in popularity over the past decade, mostly due to its affordability.
Industrial style can be based in DIY projects that take salvaged objects like wood, mason jars, and combine them with newer elements to create utilitarian objects that combine form with function.
An industrial style home is modest, honest, and inviting, and it reminds visitors of days long gone. Industrial design shares some elements with modern design; namely solid lines and the absence of access.
Flea market finds are important to industrial style rooms; don’t be afraid to repurpose items that others might see as junk. Wooden crates can be reinforced and become coffee tables, old lockers into storage, and old ladders into unique shelving.
Lighting is one of the most recognizable elements in any industrial style home. You may see individual pendant lights with enameled shades, or more commonly, aluminum bulb cages. You may also see steel or ribbed glass shades.
The above light fixture is decidedly industrial, and embodies the form and function element of industrial design, as it doubles as a bookend. You can learn more here.
While you can purchase these types of light fixtures at major retailers, it can be worth it to visit small retailers who can custom-make a light fixture exactly to your specifications.

Absolutely beautiful designs and artwork! Very inspiring, so much so I've subscribed to your channel. I'd like to try a few pieces and incorporate them with my reclaimed wood projects I do!
I like deconstructing old barns and buildings. And with that there are so many old relics to be found in these structures. The last building I took down I found an old 1938-42 RCA radio in almost pristine condition. Although it had a rabbits nest and spider webs and such it cleaned up good and worked for a bit. It stopped working, still can't figure out why but there was so much more stuff in the old Adobe building. It was actually an old bar built I around the turn of the century. Anyway I've been making bird feeders and bird houses with the material I took out of there including some of the relics.
    Thanks for sharing 👍
I also enjoyed the music. Who is the artist?

I really like the design but I'm not sure about the comment about affordability. These types of lights are fetching a high dollar where I am which is why I want to weld up similar fixtures with my powerimig and start selling them.

You must do this as a job or have help because that is a lot of labor.
