Thanks for that Maggie. I'd forgotten that lovely song about Burns. It was particularly interesting as the statue has recently had to be moved to make way for the trams. I think I heard you sing this just up the road from the statue. But you modestly missed out how spectacularly good a maths tutor you were.

Hello Maggie, please can you sing Smokey's Bar ? That was the first song I heard you sing, a long time ago. I loved your voice, and the song, and have done ever since. I'm always watching out for you, even though you only seem to pop up occasionally (in my world, anyway. It's a special treat that you are here today, thank you. Should I have put this in Chat? I could try that too !

Hi Janet - sorry, but as you may have realised the songs were pre-recorded so requests were not possible. Smokey's Bar is indeed a great song, by Dave Deitchman - although of course, I learned it from the singing of the wonderful Nic Jones. Hope you enjoyed the other songs anyway!

Just for the record: there were a couple of wee errors in Maddy's introduction to this session - the song she was talking about is of course "A Place Called England" rather than "This is England" (the latter is the title of a film, directed by Shane Meadows!), and June Tabor and the Young 'Uns have indeed recorded it, but not Martin Carthy (as far as I know). Martin did record "Perfumes of Arabia", as I think I mentioned at some point in the interview. Any other errors or omissions are all mine!
