You are in my prayers too. There is so much opposition and challenge in the world today! I am in a strange place myself - I have been very blessed over my life and am now facing some new challenges that I’m struggling with. I trust in the Lord and want to believe that I will accept whatever is His will for me, but some days it’s hard.
I love it "it's okay to let fear in the car with us, just don't let fear drive." Don't give the wheel to fear because it will take you places your never want to go.Thank you so much!
Once again the come follow me lesson has a timely message for me and mine. Be strong, be courageous. Step into the water and the Lord will perform a miracle. Tyler and Taylor- your words, examples and insight is an instrument for learning and even communication from the Lord for my life’s circumstance. You just have no idea the good you are doing. This week my husband learned he has a serious cancer. As we have been reeling from this grave news, the book of Joshua is encouraging us to face this mountain we have been given. We feel strengthened. God bless everyone at BOM Central.
I think you both are the best gospel teachers - anywhere! We like to listen each Sunday. I LOVE SUNDAYS because I can hear your lessons! Incredible insights and knowledge to our souls. We pray in thanks to Heavenly Father for you and we ask Him for blessings on you both, always.
Thank you guys so much again!!! I have this intense new job position starting this week. I’ve felt pretty overwhelmed and terrified. This video and Joshua’s story has helped me find courage, to fear not, and to trust God! Thank you!!!
I really enjoy your lessons and like them even more when you both teach together. You compliment each other. Love all I am able to learn every week and thank you for the time you spend preparing your lessons to help us learn every week
I live in Brasil and I'm a teacher at Sunday School, so, both of you help me a lot. I've never learnet so much as I have done nowadays. Thank you my friends, and go on as the same way. I feel as if I 've known you a long, long time.
I really enjoyed this lesson, so thank you Taylor and Tyler and anyone else who makes this possible. I decided to watch this when I was in desperate need of both courage and love from God, and without knowing before hand what would be discussed and taught, I am now very grateful I felt the need to watch this particular video, it was indeed an answer to prayer.
i am so grateful for these videos. i’ve felt the Spirit multiple times while watching & are so much more enlightened. having these insights makes the Old Testament more alive in my life, and strengthens my relationship with Heavenly Father & our Savior. my heartfelt thanks to Taylor, Tyler, and your entire team🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Our scripture study of the Old Testament has been enriched with each lesson you have presented. Thank you for likening the scriptures unto us and for making them applicable to our time.
I love the analogy of allowing your fear to ride in the car with you. I read in a book that we should "Friend your Fear." Ask it, "What are you here to teach me?" This sounded like great advice, then I tried it... I was amazed at how impactful reframing fear was for me. Fear transformed from an enemy to an ally!
Joshua has always been my favourite person in the Old Testament, for his courage and commitment in serving the Lord. what a great example he was to all of us.
Especially loved the explanation about raining cats and dogs and relating it to our understanding of the writings in the Old Testament. Such a great way to explain it. Thanks again to the both of you and your guest. You are AWESOME!!
Thank you both for your inspiration, I have learned a lot from your teaching. And you did make me cry with your last story with the little girl and her brother.
I really enjoyed this presentation. You know I was thinking about the 'Walls of Jericho' and what that would've been like for the Israelites. I also thought about the inhabitants of Jericho and what their reaction would have been to see the Israelites marching around the city. I think maybe they would've thought 'oh look! It's a parade and a marching band'. This is a beautiful reminder again and again that God has all the answers to our problems. At times we anticipate the solutions because we think we know what the Lord is going to say or do. Sometimes this thought prevents us from turning to him, especially when we are making decisions not consistent with his teachings. But again, we don't know what his answers will be for our own personal situations. The scriptures and CFM lessons tell us more about the patience and long suffering personality of the Lord. If anyone thinks that God is a God who gives up on us, just look at the story of the Children of Israel. I love the story of Rahaab, and I love what Bro Halverson said, and I agree. We don't get into the Lord's good books because of our status or family ties, he doesn't look at it like that. We get nearer to him when we choose him, and choose to walk the covenant path. Sometimes we are nowhere near the Lord but he still throws hope our way and puts Angels in our path. In the case of Rahaab, I feel she would have had those spiritual feelings, and would have already had respect and love for the Lord long before Joshua's men arrived on the scene. I love the story of the Lord of hosts, that is just amazing right there. I was blown away when I read that, and I was like "It's the Lord". I love the story Bro Griffin shared about his Nephew and the little girl. I also love what he said about the priests carrying the ark of the covenant and crossing the Jordan River. Sometimes I think it would be much easier if we just walked and went easily where the Lord wants us to go, but you see our logical minds have to analyze and question everything all the time. This story is full of hope and encouragement. It's that beautiful reminder that faith is a verb and it is an action. I watch all the shorter CFM videos throughout the week, and I save the longer presentations for Sundays. I look forward to Sundays because I know I am going to have a wonderful lesson from Bro Griffin and Bro Halverson. BOM Central Team, can you guys please put Bro Halverson's OT map link in the description? The link is not there. Love the work you all do. Thank you for being goodness to my soul. I never believed I could actually read the OT the same way I have read the BOM, but I am now on 1 Samuel, and now I believe I can read the whole OT by the end of the year. Bravo to CFM and praises be to God ❤.
I appreciate the context you set around land grants. As I read Joshua I was reading it through a 21st century context in which I hear some people start presentations by describing the "occupied" land here in the US they live on. Getting re-centered on the idea that all the world is God's helped me. Still struggling a bit with all of this but your work is helping.
Don't allow the deceiver to convince you that the Lord is anything but kind and loving. I understand your concerns, but I know that the Lord's ways are not our ways. 🙏
I really love the way you present the scriptures. Both the spiritual part and also the more practical part. As a sidenote to the fall of the walls of Jericho; as an engineer working with vibrations of stuctures, I can see how the Lord uses the given laws of nature to obtain his purposes. As an engineer, I know that all structures have, what we call, its natural frequencies, They will vibrate at its natural frequency if given an outward vibration force to do so. And if we just let it vibrate long enough at its natural frequency, it will collapse. And I believe that is what happended at the walls of Jericho. The Lord knew the laws where this could be accomplished, and this mircale happened. Its great to see how the Lord uses the laws to accomplish his puposes. And He knows all the laws, We don't.
I also enjoy it so much when you two teach together. Taylor (and Steve), your map is fantastic! What a labor of love that was for all of us. Thank you so much!!
I really loved that as you are talking about the covenant between Rahab and the Israelite spies (around 36:36) of binding the scarlet thread to her windows so that she and her household will be protected and passed over in the upcoming attack, what do we see hanging from Tyler's scriptures... but a scarlet thread!? We are also protected by studying the covenants found in scripture and keeping our own covenants with Jehovah! It also reminded me of the blood on the door posts during the Passover. Thanks brothers for your scholarship and inspired teaching.
What a great message. First, how I love C.S. Lewis and to realize I am growing in being self-aware. It is true as I search Father's way and constantly strive to hang onto the "Iron rod", I do see myself and it is very humbling. The work is real and peeling off the layers is so painful sometimes, but I look forward to becoming what Father knows I can be. This gives a whole new meaning to having to do hard things. I can hope that the promised land is in my future. I have faith that it is possible for me as I look at myself and change what needs to be changed. ❤️
Absolutely fantastic. I'm gaining such a knowledge and testimony of the inter connectedness of the scriptures, how the Nephites knew the Old Testament stories, how they served the same God, and how you can see Jesus Christ in the Old Testament. Many thanks indeed!!!!
Thank you to both of you for this great lesson. I love when you mentioned the "give me". Isn't it what happens to us on a smaller squale, when we need God's help in our trials? It can be in very minor details. I have lots of examples, but I will not mention all of them (protection during a storm, health issues, etc...). I loved when you insisted on "their stuff". Thank you for the Scriptures mapped tool. This is just great! God bless you both! (Watching from France).
I've just been sharing your teachings with a friend of mine, adding this comment : "This is once again a goldmine, a vision and comprehension that can change our lives !" Oh thank you so much !
Thank you so much for this great lesson I learned so much from this lesson about courage and great faith. I add on few points to my record book of special moments of spiritual uplifting messages.
I just realized that both of the scriptures that I have used the most from the Old testament and my life both of them came from Joshua that have to do with casting out fear and being faithful. For me he was an amazing prophet!
I love being part of the Lord's covenant people. My heart is with you, and every week I will be loyal. I will strive to keep the Sabbath day holy and live with my temple covenants. I will be strong and of good courage. Thanks for the lecture for this week.
At 50:38 the marching of the soldiers around Jericho must have been a tremendous psychological warfare for both sides. For the city of Jericho, this was not the behavior they expected. And for the silent troops, it would allow an intense preparation of meditation and prayer during the march.
I love the comparison of Canaan being a symbol of Heaven which we left to come to earth/Egypt where we fall into slavery and Heavenly Father sends a deliverer Jesus Christ/Moses to bring us out and take us back to Heaven/Canaan
Being exactly obedient does not guarantee the favor of God. We are never going to prove ourselves worthy because we are mortal and as mortals we fail. We can act in faith, but God doesn't take away the trial or the affliction. If we are the people of Noah/Limhi we suffer because of choices. If we are the people of Alma, we suffer because of others choices and God see it necessary to chasten us. In this life, we all simply will not be able to be perfect and obedience is not a guarantee.
I'm hoping for some clarification- in this video, you mention not to let fear drive. When I hear that God doesn't use fear, I can't help but think of a few stories in the BOM. Alma the younger fell to the ground from fear and later said that it was terror. Look at what fear did for him. Didn't God use that fear to change Alma? Also, King Noah- he was about to let Abinadi go because of the fear that Abinadi was telling the truth and he was concerned about his future. What if he had given into that fear? Wouldn't he have been a better person for that? There's others. I think that God does use fear to point us in the right direction sometimes. What are your thoughts?
I loved the "Mapping the Scriptures" App, however, when viewed in the screen with the scripture chapter on the left and the map on the right, the hyperlink is a blue and the scripture text is black, however, it is very difficult to distinguish the two. I think a better color would be a dark red or something with more contrast so the hyperlink is more visible.
I have wondered if Joshua and Caleb were meant to be two witnesses as Mosaic law requires. Notice in the future two witnesses will preach on the streets of Jerusalem. The law of witness
I don't want to sound critical, but I believe that it was Caleb who was 85 and sought the mountain, not Joshua in Chapter 14. Otherwise, my favorite TH-cam Come Follow Him presentation. Thanks for you dedication and service. Sincerely, Michael Hardy
Raining cats and dogs, supposedly came from the 17th century. They would crawl into the thatch during rain storms to stay protected. If it rained too much, the thatch would soften and get weighed down. With the extra weight from the animals, it would come crashing in particularly where the animals were. Don’t know how true this is, but it’s all I have to go on for now.
Taylor, I really liked your explanation of context and "land grants" in the Ancient Middle East. Do you think the same type of thing might have been happening in the Book or Mormon, when the Anti-Nephi-Lehites were given the land of Jershon? It has always seemed amazing that the Nephites would just give up that much land. I'd be interested in your thoughts on this...
Yes, yes, yes! You've nailed it! Notice that the word Jershon means "inheritance", just like God offering Abraham a land of "inheritance" now the Nephites are sharing those Abrahamic promises with the Lamanites and giving them a promised land of "inheritance"
Can you give us that website to go to for the Maps? I looked it up as you were speaking but it did not work. It said it couldn’t be found. Oh awesome lesson. Give me this mountain.
Great introduction to the Book of Joshua. Thank you for that. The first verses are outstanding. Having sat through discussions and sermons, I have to keep reminding myself of themes of leading and obediently following, sidestepping the litany of communities being destroyed. The giver of the Sermon on the Mount, the Beatitudes, seems a long ways off.
Taylor, would you provide the link to the google map your were discussing that shows all of the locations in this chapter? I do not see it on this page. Thanks
I am having trouble with the date chronology lately. It is not readily apparent which week this is in regards to the manual. Would you please make it clearer.
Regarding the scientific explanation for the sun standing still ... I had a high school physics teacher who talked about this... there is geological evidence of meteorites of varying sizes impacting the earth... if a meteorite large enough (and there have been those of sufficient size that have hit the earth) hits the earth at the right angle, it can "push" the earth out and beyond its normal orbit. From the vantage point on the earth, if timed correctly, such an impact would make it appear that the sun "stands still" for a time... and my teacher referenced the story of Joshua "stopping" the sun.
You state that only Joshua and Caleb were allowed in to the promised land of all who were exiled from Egypt however the scriptures say anyone 20 years and younger will be admitted. Please clarify. Thanks
You are right. I think they just oversimplified. They meant Caleb and Joshua were the only adults, the only ones of their generation who entered in. If you were 10 years old when you crossed the Red Sea, you were 50 years old when you went into the promised land.
Joshua 5:6...all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed. I believe all the children born in the wilderness during those 40 years went to the promised land.
Do we know who the descendants of these people are? Or where they went? Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites.
Here is the link to the maps that are referenced in the video: scriptures.byu.edu/mapscrip/

Also be strong and of good courage is good advice.

Taylor, you mentioned a map you had created that showed all the cities in the promised land. Could you please give me the link. Thanks.
Very helpful explanation of Context!
Where is the link to the Bible google map?

Taylor, would you provide the link to the google map your were discussing that shows all of the locations in this chapter? I do not see it on this page. Thanks

I am having trouble with the date chronology lately. It is not readily apparent which week this is in regards to the manual. Would you please make it clearer.
week 22, book of Joshua for may 23-29
Great Lesson. Where can I find your MapScript, Taylor. I don't see a link for it here.
Thank you.
I didn't know the name, Joshua means "one saves" and the names Joshua and Jesus are same. Fascinating stories.
The first chapter of Matthew, verse 3 says the names is Rachab not Rahab. How do you understand them to be the same person?
I am trying to figure out how the manna-fed House of Israel became Warriors for battle.
Which tribe were Joshua and Moses?
Ephraim and Levi respectively
You state that only Joshua and Caleb were allowed in to the promised land of all who were exiled from Egypt however the scriptures say anyone 20 years and younger will be admitted. Please clarify. Thanks
You are right. I think they just oversimplified. They meant Caleb and Joshua were the only adults, the only ones of their generation who entered in. If you were 10 years old when you crossed the Red Sea, you were 50 years old when you went into the promised land.
Taylor are you sure about all of the Israelite that leaves Egypt died in the wilderness, what about their little ones?
Joshua 5:6...all the people that were men of war, which came out of Egypt, were consumed. I believe all the children born in the wilderness during those 40 years went to the promised land.
A great lesson as always because of your spiritual preparation and commitment. I also like the comment on fear, thank you so much.
Do we know who the descendants of these people are? Or where they went?
Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Hivites, and the Perizzites, and the Girgashites, and the Amorites, and the Jebusites.
Unfortunately, we don't know. They are lost to history. But very likely there descendants are spread throughout the middle east and the world.
cool map
They have found the alter of Joshua on Mt Ebal, which was a desolate place all this time, but Mt Jezerim was green anciently.
