You guys were in our backyard. We live in Gunnison, CO which you had to come through to get to CB. You are correct at how wonderfully beautiful our area is! Just as an FYI, the dump station (free) in Gunnison is easy peasy to get too and has free potable water!
Crested Butte is one of our favorite Colorado towns in both the summer for mountain biking, hiking and wildflowers and in the winter for skiing. Lake Irwin is where we spent 3 nights of our honeymoon 17 years ago. It is absolutely beautiful! We stayed at the same RV campground in June for my husband's birthday. If you like pizza, I hope you ate at Secret Stash. It's the best.
We have been mountain bikers for many many years, and not once been able to get to crested butte. Now that we are retired and constantly on the road Rv-ing, you can bet we will make it out there! Thank you for always sharing your adventures. ❤️
If there was ever one place I had to stay forever, it would be the Colorado Rockies! I love everything about them, even the snow, kinda. Lol. I don’t have the words to describe how connected I feel to them, but when you know, you know. Thanks again for sharing the beautiful places you visit and I’m so looking forward to your video about Creed. ❤️
This is one of the best videos that you have done in a long time. You didn't try promote or sell anything. It was very well put together and plan to stop in Crested Butte next summer.
We used to take regular trips to Colorado but my better half suffered from altitude sickness so he would be down for the count for the first 24-36 hours every trip! Love Colorado!
Was skiing there a week ago. 12" of powder mid-week. Loved it! Camped with the Airstream at Almont 20 minutes away. We had shore power but the furnace wouldn't ignite (I bought a new sail switch). -5F at night. 25F during the day while skiing. Luckily we had a portable electric heater. 😁
Shoot you let the cat out of the bag. Been going there since late 80's while riding off road/road motorcycles. So many passes and mountains + neat towns to visit. Glad you found one of Colorado's many gems of an area.
I just heard you are in Creede next week. I’m not saying where we camped, because there were only 2 rigs in the campground. 9 day stay! Fantastic views! Quiet and a million stars at night! We saw the boondocking sites above town. Maybe you were one of the Class As that were there.
Yes we have been to Created Butte! It was back in 2017 we drove up devil's punchbowl from Marble! Yes my wife was crying because the trail was very scary! We love the back Range of CO.
Oh! I've missed Angie and Al. And hello to Christine and Scott. And if I could give 5 👍 I would. I'll miss the beauty of CO when we go full time to search for our retirement residence (Just stay in the RV???) I enjoy all your videos, but the Colorado shows are spectacular!!! Colorado scenery FTW!!!
I live in CB and the reason it doesn’t have a dump spot is that that whole area where the RV resort is located rely on septic and well water. And the reason for the queue for the dump lane is that neighborhood was very tired of having RVs lining up all which ways to use the sewer. Glad you enjoyed it!!
My family has been camping just out side of Gunnison (Gunny as the locals say) since I was a little girl. Our daughter Megan graduated from Western State and lives in Crested Butte (CB to the locals). We love visiting as often as possible. CB has a big chili and beer festival every September. That is super fun to go to. In addition, you can hike the West Maroon Pass from CB to Aspen. From point-to-point is a 10.3 mile hike one way. Megan hikes this pass a several times a year. The best time to go is late June to mid October. If you’re up to it I would highly recommend hiking the West Maroon Pass from CB to Aspen. When you get to Aspen you can take a reserved private shuttle back to CB. Or you can hike back to CB via the East Maroon pass from Aspen which is the path less traveled. From Aspen to CB take the Judd Falls / Copper Lake Trailhead which puts you close to Gothic. Gothic is just out side of CB. This hike definitely take some planning and coordinating. Avid backpackers and hikers frequent this area. Permits are required for overnight stays in the back country. What I love about Maroon Bells is that people of all capabilities can enjoy the area. Maroon Bells offer short hikes to longer overnight backpacking trips. Love you videos. I look forward to seeing you on the road one day. Safe Travels.
It's been a long, LONG time since I've skied Crested Butte -- but I have very fond memories. Oddly, it's where I learned to use my skis independently because there was lots of ice in January 1981 -- that's right, 1981! Crested Butte had a great "feel" back in those days -- and I've been back as far as Gunnison in 2016 (in an RV) and the "feel" is still alive! I think it's because it's not quite as accessible as other (ski) locations -- i.e. no easy flying into Denver and driving out like -- Breckenridge, Keystone, Copper Mountain, Winter Park and even Steamboat, Vail -- and EVEN Aspen Highlands, Snowmass, etc. CB is a sort of oasis. Thanks for letting me reminisce -- seeing you all (or, as a Texan, I should say, y'all) there makes me want -- no need -- to return to CB. Thanks for the incentive!
Not far from Gunnison and Crested Butte, up the Taylor River Canyon is the Taylor Park Trading Post with an RV park with 67 full hookups sites that are about 70 feet long.
Definitely have a backup for boondocking around CB. We've been there when EVERY SINGLE SITE was taken off EVERY single FS road off Kebler Pass and the other 2 roads north of town and every campground was FULL. It's definitely hugely popular among Coloradans too
Hey Phil, Glad to see you walking better. Congrats on the ability to hike now. So 3 old farts ( I am one myself) are deciding how/should they walk done to that creek to get snow to make a snow ball. You should have turned over some rocks looking for gold. I can guarantee that there is a bunch in there. Safe travels guys.
Hi guys, Love your videos. I skied in Crested Butte in the early 90's and they had gotten 7 feet of snow the week before we landed and they were expecting another foot of snow per day over the next 7 days. When you stood on the street you were actually about 3 to 4 feet above the actually street. You could not see any of store fronts. The snow was all the to the roof top. The cut passthroughs to the sidewalks so you could get into the stores. I had to take powder lessons so I could ski because each day we had a foot of fresh powder to ski in. It was crazy and wonderful!
We have lot-docked in the ski resort parking lots before, and we don't ski. I have done cross-country skied and we use to go "ski joring" when we had our Siberian Husky. She loved it more than we did. There is a ski resort in Michigan that had mountain biking in the summer that closed down the biking in the summer because someone wrecked then sued the resort for not properly maintaining the trails.
Hey guys! Great vid, and boy did it bring back memories! I was a professional ski patroller in Colorado (Keystone Resort) and have been to Crested Butte for a ski patrol competition back in the late 90s. Amazing town and awesome skiing! Summer is great too! Keep up the great vids! Stay safe out there!
Nice video. We were there 2yrs ago and explored Lake Irwin in the summer. Lots of people at that time, very different from your visit. We'll check out Emerald Lake this month, we'll be there in 10 days. This time we'll take the ski lift to the top too, looks like fun. We'll be looking for wildFLOWERS during our visit, Hah! We'll be camping in Gunnison at the KOA, where they have farm animals roaming all over the campground. Driving our Class A up the Crested Butte canyon 35mi off the main highway (at Gunnison) is bit much, so we'll be driving our Honda CRV up there from Gunnison.
Always wanted to ski Crested Butte, but never made it there. Made many trips out to Park City and skied Alta, Dear Valley, Park West, Park City. The snow in Utah is the best! Love the tour of town and the surrounding areas there! Alas, we won't make it out west this year coming, as we are hitting the east coast up in CT and surrounding states! Safe travels and great video! I hope that DW does as well after her total knee replacement as Phil. She is on 3 months now and doing well!
We visited “crusty butt“ years ago to ski. Managed to destroy a brand new set of skis in half an afternoon. Great sking but you gotta watch the rocks if you go even close to off piste
Phil and Stacy, we could have seen you out of our window when you are riding the Silver Queen chairlift. My wife and I have been full-time retired in Mt Crested Butte (where I am a former Mayor) since 2006 (when we aren’t in the RV. Too many of these videos and we get more visitors than we can handle. Love that you were here and wish we had seen you. BTW, 233 inches is average, since we have been here we have had several winters with over 400”. Thanks for the video and safe travels.
Glad to see that the knee replacement worked out. I had both knees done back in 2002 and then about 4 years later, hiked the Grand Canyon from rim to rim backcountry camping. Medicine is unbelievable these days.
We spent our honeymoon in CB on Nov 2020. It was where we talked about traveling in an RV. And we started the next summer! And discovered your channel!
Good job on getting the knee working again , we are at Blue Mesa west of Gunnison for September, will be in Cresent Butte next week. for the day, then come back for a hike. I am a skier, so these ski towns are fun, fun, fun.
Beautiful video!! Colorado is a beautiful state, but I agree with you Stacy I don’t like the cold. So we come in the summer months. We have been several times and enjoyed each location. Safe travels guys!! 😊❤️🇺🇸
A squozen is the past tense of squeeze so it must me something that was squeezed once in it's life. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Pssst Stacy, I believe that was a stream 'cause as far as I know lakes don't have any current, but I may be wrong. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
WOW. Great video. Going to Colorado in early November on my way south. All weather dependent of course but an adult beverage or two by that lake would be heaven. Can't say enough about this video. You'll rock!!
Leadville has a similar setup with the dump station in town. There are lots of campgrounds around there, as well. If you’re looking for similar accommodations, look at Twin Lakes. 😊
We just spent a month in Gunnison at the Mesa Campground. Definitely on the return list! Summer in CO may become a regular thing, if I can just learn to breathe deep!
We spend a lot of time in Colorado, and actually, the SW portion is our favorite area. Something I will say about your videos now - especially on this one. You rate this park 4 / 4. It has no dump station, charges for pets, cant really do anything on the grass, and charges $80 to $100 a night. For that kind of money, my expectation level gets pretty high. It would help, as you give your personal reviews, that you share more info than "X/ X" thumbs up. Thanks for making the videos..
Just thinking if Crestted Butte's LEO pulled up while you guys were moving their traffic control devices he probably would have seen the Texas tags on your coach and just drove on by. LOL! Good content. Thanks for taking us with youl.
Great video guys….this place is totally on our radar AND we know folks building a home there.😉thanks for the appetizer and so glad Phil is hiking again🎉
Crested Butte is a great little town, and often overlooked...especially in the Summer. Not as big and touristy as many other CO mountain towns, primarily because it's not very easy/convenient to get to. You're only going there if it's your destination...it's not really along the way to anywhere. Also, it's a really good place to see summer mountain wildflowers and SlapBurger is a great little lunch spot on Elk Street.
I've been to Crested Butte many times, for many reasons. It's a jewel, for sure. But, it's interesting how you don't mention just how expensive Crested Butte has become. I downhill skied at Crested Butte in 2018. It was over $100 for a half day lift ticket at the counter. Yikes! The restaurants aren't cheap either. So, go to Crested Butte but expect California prices. My recommendation is if you go in the winter, skip the downhill skiing and go XC. Crested Butte has world class Nordic tracks that are open to the public and not expensive. I don't think you mentioned it.
Love your videos. I boondocked in CB at Washington Gulghe the last 2 summers. You mentioned it was free to dump in CB. It’s actually $5 for water and $10 to dump per Campendium.
Phil you might consider carrying some "tools" like I do. Cordless chainsaw, hedge trimmer, and leaf blower. These come in handy for camping and trimming the brush that might scratch Ruby.
@@todayissomeday , yeah I noticed that you had a written note to move those traffic barriers 🙂. Here in the northwest if you're winter camping those tools are a must and a real chainsaw is a better addition.
Are you guys going to make it to Mesa Verde National Park? That is a amazing place. Some place fun to stay because of the view is Raton Pass Camp & Café. It is off I-25 at the top of Raton pass. You get off at the top of the pass then go up to your spot.
Did you fill up in Brighton a couple of days ago? I thought I may have seen your rig at a gas station near 4th and Bromley but then I thought you would probably go to Love's up the road.
Thanks for taking us along on your journey. I have just placed these locations on my bucket list map. Nice of you to give a shout-out to "Happily Ever Hanks" with Phil's #THANKS HANKS t-shirt.❤❤
Thank You for sharing your travels! You may have heard this comment before … Please consider using using hiking poles. It will be a game changer for Phil. (2 poles per person, not just one)
We were there 30 years ago. Tent camped at Lake Irwin and hiked everywhere - Keebler Pass, beautiful country! Especially if you go east to Tincup and Cottonwood Pass and the Collegiate Peaks. Spent a lot of time around Buena Vista and the Arkansas River. Awesome country!
You guys were in our backyard. We live in Gunnison, CO which you had to come through to get to CB. You are correct at how wonderfully beautiful our area is! Just as an FYI, the dump station (free) in Gunnison is easy peasy to get too and has free potable water!
Thanks for the info!
They actually did not have to drive through Gunnison. They could have come through Almont.
Crested Butte is one of our favorite Colorado towns in both the summer for mountain biking, hiking and wildflowers and in the winter for skiing. It was probably us.
Crested Butte looks like a "must-do" place now. Beautiful looking area, thank you for making this video. Beat Army!

I’m glad you are doing better Phil!
I went skiing in Crested Butte around 35 years ago - and loved it. It doesn't look like it's changed much since then.
Hahaha! You would be sad to see how much it has changed. Too many people and development
My family has been camping just out side of Gunnison (Gunny as the locals say) since I was a little girl. Thanks. Great info.
The lake in the campground looks beautiful!
Go there in the Fall and be amazed and go during Wildflower season and if it is a good year, you will be doubly amazed.
Phil..... those out takes were funny as heck with Stacy !! Lord don't tell the Bartender to make a stiff one!!
It's been a long, LONG time since I've skied Crested Butte -- but I have very fond memories. Glad to see that Phil doesn’t really hobble around. Nice video on some of Colorado’s best kept secrets. Thank you for sharing and have a great day.
I am with you guys. No mountains in the Winter and snowfall. Created Butte and Kebler Pass are beautiful in late Sept Fall color.
Colarado is beautiful - and thanks for your out takes! - Cheers!
Nice to see you having so much fun!
Not far from Gunnison and Crested Butte, up the Taylor River Canyon is the Taylor Park Trading Post with an RV park with 67 full hookups sites that are about 70 feet long.

Been there! We live in Colorado. Be sure to check out the two story outhouses usually in the alley ways in town. Worth a pic!
You guys always have so much fun! Great video and wonderful views. Phil is doing so good!
He is getting better all the time!!
Hi guys,

Wow…way to go, Phil! You too, Stacie! Glad you were able to hike up there! 😘
Me too!!
You came through “Almont”. If you would have take a right you would have ended in at “Taylor Resevoir” with a lot of camping areas and trophy fishing.
Nice thanks hanks T Phil- you guys are awesome! What a beautiful place thanks for sharing
Great beautiful scenery....
Beautiful place I want to go, thanks for the tour.
We visited “crusty butt“ years ago to ski. Managed to destroy a brand new set of skis in half an afternoon. Great sking but you gotta watch the rocks if you go even close to off piste

Thanks for sharing. Skied there in the ‘80’s. 7 of us rented a cabin nearby. Was amazing.
Beautiful area. We skied and snowshoed in the area often. We still miss Colorado.
We spent our honeymoon in CB on Nov 2020. It was where we talked about traveling in an RV. And we started the next summer! And discovered your channel!
We were just there for two weeks in our summer Colorado tour and we LOVED it!!! Aug 1-15th 2022
Good job on getting the knee working again , we are at Blue Mesa west of Gunnison for September, will be in Cresent Butte next week. for the day, then come back for a hike. I am a skier, so these ski towns are fun, fun, fun.
What an amazing time in CB!!! Great video, and can't wait to see what you do with the Creede Shenanigans.
We are currently across the mountain from where you are in this video near Cotopaxi, CO.
Beautiful video!! Colorado is a beautiful state, but I agree with you Stacy I don’t like the cold. So we come in the summer months. We have been several times and enjoyed each location. Safe travels guys!! 😊❤️🇺🇸
So good to see Phil on the trail. Beautiful country
Thank you!
Amazing video with beautiful scenery. Phil you didn't look to happy coming down the mountain on the ski lyft with it rain. Thanks for the journey.
LOL....the rain dampened my spirits.
Beautiful video. Encourages us to go off-road to see this beautiful country.
One of my very favorite places!! Gunnison is home to us 🥰
A squozen is the past tense of squeeze so it must me something that was squeezed once in it's life. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Pssst Stacy, I believe that was a stream 'cause as far as I know lakes don't have any current, but I may be wrong. Keep the good stuff coming guys.
My husband used to plow that 250+ inches of snow...hwy 135
Yikes!
Yes! Lol
WOW. Great video. Going to Colorado in early November on my way south. All weather dependent of course but an adult beverage or two by that lake would be heaven. Can't say enough about this video. You'll rock!!
Thanks so much!
Great Video! I see Phil enjoying the hikes! I get my (Laurie) knee done at the end of the year and I can't wait to get back hiking again! Happy Trails
Sounds great!
We stayed 3 weeks at Blue mesa ranch in Gunnison. Wonderful area.
Oh yeh. Blue mesa ranch is not thousand trails. Stayed 3 weeks for zip zero nada. No moula . thanks thousand trails
Now thousand trails

Great video guys….this place is totally on our radar AND we know folks building a home there.😉thanks for the appetizer and so glad Phil is hiking again🎉
Lt! This is Hank - like your work see you on the road - I am a 3/4 timer.
Hey Hank!!! Long time no chat!! We are loving this lifestyle! Hope to run into out here in the wild! Are you still at the schoolhouse?
Gave you a thumbs up for the great content and the #thankshanks shirt
We love them!!!

I lived in Snowmass Village which was just over the mountain. We would call it Crusty Butt.
Didn’t know about the pike finder!!! Thank you
Beautiful ! Blue Mesa 1000 Trails around there? As usual great video.
Phil: “or us in the winter.” 😂
Keep chasing 70, Phil!
Great views you two.
No that was not us. Maybe our twin
Absolutely gorgeous!!
What dates were in Crested Butte that you were wearing Sweatshirts? Beautiful scenery!!
Mid July.
@@todayissomeday oh wow! Thanks!!
Great video. Adding this to our trip list. I know you were there in the summer but which month??
August
Thanks for taking us along on your journey. I have just placed these locations on my bucket list map. Nice of you to give a shout-out to "Happily Ever Hanks" with Phil's #THANKS HANKS t-shirt.❤❤
Our pleasure!
Loved the area! One of our fav to go to. CO used to be our home.
Thank You for sharing your travels!
You may have heard this comment before … Please consider using using hiking poles. It will be a game changer for Phil. (2 poles per person, not just one)
Thanks for the tips!
Totally Gorgeous!
awesome video guys. stay safe
No! Please don’t tell anymore people about our little slice of paradise! Glad you enjoyed our home!
Are you going to the Broncos home opener on Sunday?
I wish!!!!
I wondered if anyone would ever visit Crested Butte!
You guys are great!
Stacy what kind of sunglasses are you wearing? I need a pair. Thank you, Stacie
She has the Oakley aviators and her pink pair is from Gooder.
@@todayissomeday Thank you so much!
