I invested in some good minimizer bras which make a huge difference for stuff like this. Check out Natori. It takes literal inches off my bustline and basically removes my cleavage so I can wear things that normally would make me look a bit....well tacky, imo. For reference I'm a 28F, but I wear a 32DD from Natori and it's perfect.

I realize I’m super late to this party, but I wanted to thank you from the bottom of my heart for sharing tips and information about fashion for short torsos. I am in my 50’s and have ALWAYS struggled so much with feeling awkward when trying trendy or new styles because many new and trendy styles don’t take this body shape into account! I think I have found my way regardless but only through trial and error. I sure would have appreciated your style lessons a few decades back :) Thank you again!! ❤❤❤
Hi Jules, I have recently discovered your short torso videos. Although I have gradually figured this stuff out by trial and error, I wish I had had access to this information when I was younger (now nearly 60) I would have saved myself a lot of money and bad outfits. Keep up the good work and yes a part 2 would be great or if you can find any other celebrities that would also be great.

Yes for part two! Unfortunately boat necks don't work for me because I'm a short torse inverted triangle so that would emphasise the unbalance between my shoulders and hips
As a short torso lady (and only 5’3”) I find when wearing a higher neck or boat neck top with no sleeves will add to an overall visual advantage to my height. There is something about leaving them bare from the shoulder downward. Btw, I love this video and would welcome a part two. I really like all the pictures you included as well! Thank you! 🙂

I love Meghan Markle's style. I never thought about her having a short torso. So this was super interesting to watch you break down why things work on her.
The denim dress with the wide belt at 6:33 IMO is one of her best looks. That cut, the pockets, the cap sleeves, the fullness of the skirt with the fitted bodice and wide belt gives her shape an hourglass look. Which she absolutely does not have. I've been wanting to get that dress or something similar since seeing that on her

What other neck lines would you suggest for us? Shoulder pads? V necks? Also what are some good jacket/blazer options/belt styles/scarf types? However it is most upsetting and sad to see the level of mean and unkind comments coming from people who do not even know Megan. That stems from something spiritually deeper than just what’s on the surface. I would not be on here if I wasn’t learning something new about a topic of interest, so I would definitely love to see a part two of this post. Here are a few other celebrities who are short waisted. These videos are sooo helpful. I’ve been learning so much about being slightly short torso / longer legs but also all the information about necklines!!! Omg… it makes so much sense. Suddenly I know why I like shirts so much. And why V-necks don’t really work on me even though I’ve always been told that V-necks are best for larger bust. Thank you!!
I love collared shirts, worn mostly open, too, but didn’t really know why, either. I also have a larger bust and a very short upper torso, and most V-necks and tops/dresses with straps don’t work, they come down far too low. I’m always taking up straps, or raising necklines (by putting darts in the back neckline above the shoulders), but it’s hard to do a good job on these alterations. Straight-cut straps are easiest, but most vary in width. I can’t size down because of my bust size. Some brands make everything too long in the upper torso, H&M is one of the worst, some armholes open down to my waist!🙂

She’s a beautiful woman but I’m officially confused 😂. Another TH-camr advised against boat necks for short torsos. I’m guessing this tip probably depends on your other proportions. I have a long neck and ever so slightly broad shoulders, so I’ve just always struggled with boat necks. But overall these tips are helpful for tweaking outfits to make them balanced.
I wish I had known these tips decades ago. I have zero space between my ribs and hips, and very long legs. My husband is 5 inches shorter than me, with short legs, but when we sit side by side, he looks taller than I am. 😂

I love square necklines, they’re my favorite. They visually “open” the upper chest without showing cleavage as with V-necks, which I don’t do. Plus, they look great under my beloved classic blazers, with which V-necks, scoops, etc. can look weird.🙂

Short torso very heavy low bust 😢😢😢😢 my bust wants to sit on my waist. I need a really Beefy bra ( love Wacoal for that). Drop waist dresses are very helpful. Can’t do high neck shirts. I like a tonal outfit and focus on thr rule of thirds.

Again beautiful girl and great style but not flattering with her body type short torso hourglass and long legs in my humble opinion.
The comment I had heard about Meghan's boat neck choices was to point out that since she has wide shoulders, the style makes her shoulder's look bigger... which I guess would have to be balanced by an A-line skirt. Right? The whole point is bringing balance to our proportions. I have a very long torso and short legs, so I love anything high-waisted! I can even get away with super high-waisted and it just makes my legs look longer! On top of that I let the hems stay long and wear platforms which give me the illusion of something I do not have.
I know you connect with this because you have a similar torso ratio. I wondered if you would be comfortable doing a slide show for the other groups - Long Torso/short legs & Proportionate? I understood everything you were talking about here, but it doesn't really apply to me. I thought I was proportionate - but it turns out I am a long torso/short legged, busty, petite woman (5'4").
It’s interesting that in Suits, wardrobe seems to play up the short torso. Acutely what I think I mean is they sacrifice the short torso to play up a longer legged look. I had noticed this was an interesting style choice. Almost cartoonish in a 1940s-ish pin up way. Sometimes it worked, other times what it did to tops was down right sacrificial. I think it’s interesting when features are played up to advantage, and also when they are played down to “normalise” proportions. Some of her style choices I’m not a fan of, but some of my clothing choices I have subsequently had more clarity on after the fact, just because I like a garment, doesn’t mean it looks good on me. So it’s humanising to see folk who can afford to not wear outfits that weren’t the best, just rolling with it anyway, just because they liked something. Thank you for your insights on the techniques she employs to work with her body type. It’s not my body type, but interesting nonetheless as I like seeing how people style whatever genetics threw at them.

I don’t like boatnecks because of the bra issue, plus my shoulders are too narrow for most of them. I have to wear a conventional bra, with straps, and won’t wear necklines that show them.
Love it! I am petite so some of these tips apply to me even though I have a long torso! e.g. one color lengthens! And then some I can flip around, for example, high rise jeans to elongate my leg instead of a high collar pant.

Hey Jules, Fabulous video. I watched Meghan Markle on Suits b/f Harry and always thought they did a lousy job of styling her short waisted figure. Do more of these. I like to listen to your commentary while looking at the picture. Don't know why but that process helps me understand better! And no wonder I LOVE my black boatneck

They said boat necks are a no for short torso cause it cuts off more of torso..??🤔.. maybe good for shorter necks.

Would love to see more celebs in the short torso sisterhood! I'm 5'7, literally less than 1 inch between my ribs and hips. With high rise being all the rage these days, it's hard to find something that doesn't make me look like Ed Grimley!
