Great video and I am doing the shorter loop at the end of this month solo for the first time so this video was really helpful. The most impressive piece of gear you have in my opinion is that calculator watch. Kid's only dreamed of owning one of those when I was in grade school at the end of the 1970s. You're living the dream. LOL.
Lol. Good eye! That calculator watch has been around the world with me but was sadly retired a few years ago. Good luck on the hike, you will have a great time.
We just got back from the Western backpacking trail three four weeks ago. We did the entire third loop in 2 and a half days. It was very fun and exciting to do that.
Sorry if you already know of this, but the site you stayed at on Maggie lake, isn't located on the maps. It is one of the sites the rangers use, I think.
Thanks. Yes, this was in June. earlier would be better for sure. Just make sure you don't go too late and hit the black fly season....they can be brutal.
Clifford Wright Yes, the tent is cuben fiber. It was made by Six Moons Designs and called the Refuge X. They don't make it anymore though...which is why I cherish is so much! I posted my gearlist on my website under the "adventure" section so you can look at all the gear for any of my trips there. Thanks!
Hi there! Great video! I was just wondering what camp sites you would consider a must stay at for the uplands? I am taking a nice long vacation and want to know some of the best spots :) I will be doing the entire outer loop but counter clockwise... lol just because :D
+Suluk46 mines about 35lbs with 3 liters drinking water. I don't want to go lower. Just right for me. But I try and max out at 10-12km a day. I've done 20-25km sometimes, I don't like how I feel when I get to camp. Uhh...
Mac & cheese for the win??? So, is there ever a time up there when there is not a bazillion blood sucking insects alive and out to cause horrific detriment to one and all?
Hi John, Yes, there is a part of the year when the bugs are not bad...it's called winter ;)...You need iron skin to survive up here! Actually the bugs tend to calm down towards the middle of the summer, and then disappear in the fall.
Great video Steve. Nicely edited.

Perhaps, the trip was so long ago I can't remember much...
Impressive coverage. Thanks for sharing. Was that in June?I wonder, if going in late April work better to avoid bugs, what do you think?

You're a friggin machine man!
Not quite a machine...but a super light pack helps a ton on making distance.

I hear ya. There is no right or wrong way to hike, as long as you are out there, that's what matters. Keep on hitting the trails my friend!
your funny . love that trail
Nice Vid, sometimes I keep hiking to the next spot and then it is after dark. So what was it, I guessed Mac & cheese?
You are correct! I went with Mac and Cheese. Is it bad that I find that stuff delicious?
Suluk46
Yep, I also like the Mac & Cheese

Try sometime around september they are not so bad then. Granted it is a bit cooler then as well
