  • Apologies for iffy quality, may make a piano reduction for a better viewing experience.
Just an experiment into microtonality, something I often forget exists, being a piano player.
This may or may not go anywhere, I have no idea.
The harmonies are quintal (stacked 5ths), with various instruments being grouped in specific ways in order to achieve it. Microtones are juxtaposed with regular 12tet in order to acquire certain dissonances.
Just a bit of weird fun.
Best experienced with headphones! The two string ensembles would be arranged to face each other, creating a lovely antiphonal effect.

To someone who has been listening to microtonal music for many years, this sounds very pleasing. ☺

      Thank you so much!
Do you have any microtonal music you'd recommend? I'm familiar enough with different tuning systems, but not very familiar with the wider repertoire...

A lot of echoes of the beautiful quartal harmony at the beginning of the second movement of Bartók's second piano concerto

Very much an inspiration for me!
I found quintal harmony a really great entry point for exploring microtonal ideas, as the open 5ths are both stable and malleable enough to experiment with while keeping a more "consonant" sound.
