    This was a great video and trust me there is not many of this kind or caliber to not only show a possible fix but the fact that you ran into so many problems try to do so answers alot of questions. I have a similar problem with this ghost indicator turn signal lights staying on when headlights are on. Never would have thought to check the contacts to make sure they are squeezed in to make better contact. Thank you for your video. Now let's check the light contacts on my 96 silverado. Great job and I will subscribe now.💯

    I am surprised to find that someone (you) posted this. I have an 81 RV and just spent a bundle of cash to have the electrical re-wired. The shop doesn't necessarily work on the chassis wiring. When I got it back, oth blinker lights are staying on when the lights are on. Then when I turn the lights off and just turn the key to on, the right blinker light stays on. The right blinker does have an issue (like yours). When it's tapped, the blinker light and side blinker light will come on.
    I think I need to go through all of the wiring and connections that has anything to do with the blinker/parking lights.
    Thank you for this vid, it has led me in the right dirrection.

      Hello Vernon, sorry to hear you are going through that. It's VERY frustrating to pay for a service like that and get poor results.
      I wish you good luck and I hope it ends up being something simple and easy to find.
      If the bulb contacts or sockets all check out good, then pay special attention to dirty ground connections. Those will cause all kinds of weird things to misbehave.
      Anyway, good luck and thanks for taking the time to leave me your nice feedback.

      @@planesimple8514 I found the culprit. The ground wires leading into the sockets had brass male connectors that had partially broken and were making intermittent connections. I found some other male connectors that just happen to fit so I spliced those in. Thanks again for posting, it made a long diagnosis into a quick fix.

    Very helpful, I replaced all lights in front of truck and when I turned on the headlights it was doing the exact same thing you just showed us so hopefully in the morning it will be the same outcome. When I was changing a couple of bulbs I did notice some nasty looking goop or corrosion which is probably the problem. Thank you.

    I have a 2002 Katana 750 and I am having the same problem where the left blinker stays on ghost like I will check the bulb and socket also the high beams cannot be turned off on the motorcycle if you have any input I would greatly appreciate it and thanks for making the video

    • @planesimple8514
      @planesimple8514  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Deanfender, by all means check the bulbs and sockets, but in your case I'd suspect the switch assembly itself. Since both the headlight and the blinker are on the same switch assembly, the hole thing may be defective. But before throwing money and parts(the switch) at the bike, do double check your contacts and wires. Are you the original owner of the bike? If not could someone have re-wired the headlight to only use the high beam? Could the bike have been in a crash and the front fearing cracked or replaced and the wires damaged or wires wrong.
      Who knows...? With all those possibilities at play, the first step is to check all your connections, and then I'd check the switch itself. You should be able to take it apart and see if there's any damages or burning inside of it.
      Good luck.

      @deanfender3076 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@planesimple8514 It's funny that you said that I bought the bike from a salvage yard and it was an Accident and it was like 2002 I rewired the Hanish put all the ferns and lights back on and it always worked but what it happened was like I said the headlight was staying on high beams but I charged a battery fully and I put it all back together and it went off the blink went off and the headlight went off and it actually functions properly now so I don't know if that had to do with the Alternator or the charging system

    • @planesimple8514
      @planesimple8514  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Alex, that should be a two filament bulb, one filament for marker light(dim light) and the second filament (bright) for turn and hazards signals.
      At the risk of asking a dum question, have you checked that the bulb itself is good on both filaments? Because it may be that the filament for the marker light function is burned, and that's why it only illuminates on the night filament with the turn/hazards...

    • @planesimple8514
      @planesimple8514  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Do you know if the actual turn signals outside stay illuminated too? Or is it just the indicators in the instrument cluster? I'd suspect either the flasher (the relay looking thing under the dash somewhere that does the "click-clack, click-clack" of the turn signals), or the turn signal switch itself on the steering column. The flasher is cheap and you can pick it up at any auto parts store. The switch may a bit more expensive and harder to replace.
      Good luck.

    I have something similar but different. My blinkers and brake lights work if headlights off but IF HEADLIGHTS ARE ON, front and rear left blinkers do not work, left brake light does not work, flashers don't work, and blinker light stays on on dash. Checked wires, checked fuses, swapped blinker with 4-way flasher, replaced both flashers, and changed blinker bulb. What do you think?

    • @planesimple8514
      @planesimple8514  2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Wow martin sinclair, you are facing an uphill battle. I don't know what it could be but I would methodically go through all the connections. Since some bulbs share multiple functions like stop and turn signals, there is some counter intuitive flow of current going on that makes it difficult for the average person (referring to myself here) to troubleshoot. Don't assume that because a connection tests good with the meter that it will perform the same with a bulb in place. That's the trouble I had with mine and it drove me crazy. Something as simple as one or two dirty or worn contacts can cause all kinds of wired behavior like what you described.
      Again, since I wouldn't be able to diagnose your issue, the best advise I can go e you is what I said before... Go through all the connections to ensure proper contacts and clean up all grounds. The taillight housings depend on body ground to work and if there's any corrosion or dirt in the way, that current will find it's way somewhere else and cause things to misbehave.
      I'm not sure if this is any help, but it's the only thing I have.
      I wish you good luck and I hope you find and fix the problem soon and easily.

Then I would go around every light and clean their connections, sockets, bulbs, grounds, etc. You saw it took me a while to find that bad bulb that was causing my issue.
