Oooh that's just something in the audio where you can definitely tell something is different and fresh. Man... Digging it! The nuances.... the nuances are more present. Thats what it is.... Gawd Damn!
Carter, we bow down to your playing and your 'drum mixing' ability. This video, sonically, is a literally flawless example of HOW to achieve a natural, slightlyyy roomy drum kit and HOW it SHOULD sound when mic'd up and going for absolute 'realism' over 'dream-like' drums. I LOVE both. ;-)
This solo is pure whimsy and I mean that in the most literal and sincere way. It's playful, unexpected, and impulsive without every losing itself. My goodness I have a lot to learn.
I love these gear demos... I get to transcribe bits from yet another kick ass solo. Love the inverted doubles that transition into that LH lead 6 stroke roll around the toms and snare at 1:45. You don't hear LRRLLR much.... Sounds so smooth the way you orchestrated it.
Excellent as always and now with the 3124’s the quality and richness is heightened. Thrilled for you Carter as I understand the motivation which comes form hearing your kit sound its best. Look forward to more creativity.
This is how you add value to a brand of gear. Videos like this. Kudos @cartermac. Been following since 5 years and your whole concepto just keeps getting better. How can there be 5 people who make a Thumbs down comment on this? honestly. "Dislike"? Really? Oh well.
@Bill Perri so awesome. Definitely jazz and r & b focused, so playing drums within more chill genres I find works best for them. But they sound and feel so good it’s crazy!
API is a totally different sound to Neve-style pres for sure. Having said that, I'm quite certain you had your fantastic sound nailed way before the signal hit the preamps :)
I have been playing off and on for 22 years (probably 16 years worth) and I am not close to this. This is his career. His job is drumming. He drums all day everyday.
Undoubtedly sounds excellent. Might have the mics, the room acoustics, and ... well ... the drummer's playing groove played into the sound quality? ;-) Honestly I don't know if I want your preamps, drum kit, or simply your drumming skills... Probably all three!
I really like the touch you have on the drums. Fantastic dynamics! Do the 4 microphones have the Api pad -20 inserted and the ratio 3: 1? What gain settings did you use? Saturation or clean? Last question: how do you know when you hit the peak limit of the preamps? I saw that the 3124 does not have a peak limiter led. Thank you
I assume that this drum set is mainly for Jazz. Just a few things I would like to point out, not trying to sound mean or anything. 1: Your snare is tuned kind of tight, mostly an all around snare tuning. I prefer a lower tuning to be honest 2: Your toms are also tuned tighter than normal like most jazz drummers do, I also like lower toms to provide more of a low end 3: The bass drum I think sounds amazing because of the ring it gives, I believe that's because there's no muffling and the absence of a port hole 4: Your cymbals are amazing, the angle kind of concerns me because you're not really getting much of the edge. I like to tilt mine slightly towards me when I play 5: Your playing is very tight, I love all the techniques you incorporate with sticks and brushes I hope these things I pointed out are useful, if what you have is just for your personal taste that's fine by me. I have no problem.
As of June 6, 2021, at least seven people in the world have no idea what great drumming is or what incredible hands look like when holding sticks. Good grief, people. Jazz isn’t exactly my cup of tea, but there’s no denying the mastery of technique and musicality on display here. Plus, those Ludwigs and Istanbuls sound sweet.
Carter, could you please share where you sourced your black diffuser panels on your right ? Are they efficient ? Also I really like your bass drum sound, which dimensions, material and tuning would you recommand to achieve this kind of sound ?
Curious to see the preamp settings. I'm struggling with finding the right amount of gain with the gain input, pad, and output trim options. I can get a safe setting by using barely any gain increase, but I feel like I'm losing out on the character of the unit by not maxing the gain input. I can't seem to add any gain without immediately clipping into the red. Any tips?
Legacy Maple is the top of the line Ludwig kit. Breakbeats are a whole different thing, and more affordable. Do a lot of research and think about what you want to to do with the kit.
neve and api are both just great. two different flavors. if you want the best of both worlds, check out geoff daking's stuff. his preamps have always been, to me, the perfect combo of api and neve.
Hey Carter - great stuff as always - curious if you have played around with snare wires on the LM402 and if so did you find any you liked better than the stock ones? Incredible playing!
The new 512Vs and 3124Vs have an output attenuator built into them so it eliminates the need for a pad. Now you can drive the preamp really hard and get a lot of harmonic distortion happening and not blow up your inputs to Pro Tools. APIs love hitting the red 😋
I love how every gear demo is just a beautiful drum solo on it's own.
I don't know, man. I think the best pre-amp is a Carter McLean.
Oooh that's just something in the audio where you can definitely tell something is different and fresh. Man... Digging it!

I LOVE both. ;-)
Too kind!!!! Soon explosive 🧨 drums when DCOMP shows up 🤘🏻🤘🏻
@@cartermclean YES YES YES!!! ;-) That's going to be AMAZING Carter! PREPARE THY SELF 😜😘😍😎
Sounds magical when you're playing quietly Carter...mesmerising. But mostly it's just you.
This solo is pure whimsy and I mean that in the most literal and sincere way. It's playful, unexpected, and impulsive without every losing itself. My goodness I have a lot to learn.
I love my 3124v pres. 8 of them changed my world where drum recording is concerned.
Great playing!
I would so dig a full record made up entirely of solos like this. Great as always!
YES!!!!
This video is such an incredible groove. Have probably watched 50+ times
Just the best drum sound in the TH-cam! Great drummer, great drumming, great timbers great everything! Thank you for the inspiration, Carter!
Wow ! the sound, the groove , ideas , you're an inspiration, really.
What an amazing smooth sound, where can we hear the bae in comparison ?
Everything about this is fantastic. Awesome sound and performance.
I don't think there is a more musical drummer right now. A drummer that can make the drums sounds pleasant without any accompaniment is just awesome.

Fabulous playing, beautiful sound. Also, absolutely LOVE the heritage green kit ❤️
His chops are just so smooth and elegant and effortless. Beautiful to watch.
This level of musicianship is all too rare. Really beautiful!👍
Nicely done, great playing and the kit sounds great!!
Love the use of inverted doubles
Excellent as always and now with the 3124’s the quality and richness is heightened. Thrilled for you Carter as I understand the motivation which comes form hearing your kit sound its best. Look forward to more creativity.
Man! the preamp is nice, but your playing is something beautiful you cannot buy!! awesome as always! thanks!
I liked that big bomb you drop on the crash near the end. That was awesome, man. The kit sounds great!
A drummer with dynamics is so pleasing to hear!

This is a wonderful profund musician - a pearl!
CATRER !! It’s off topic but, just ordered some of your sticks, and I am so psyched to check them out. Love the videos as usual!! Have a good day :)
@Bill Perri so awesome. Definitely jazz and r & b focused, so playing drums within more chill genres I find works best for them. But they sound and feel so good it’s crazy!
Fresh chops
That was a beautiful use of my time...
First time I got goosebumps from a preamp demo.. Amazing!
API is a totally different sound to Neve-style pres for sure. Having said that, I'm quite certain you had your fantastic sound nailed way before the signal hit the preamps :)
So beautiful and pleasant.
I can confidently say that you will sound excellent even through an iphone mic. Api pres are just the icing on the cake
Carter plays sweet jazzy style
Dude! Speechless. Much much love what you do, though.
So clean, so direct. Lovely room. Easy bass mix and gorgeous highs. Congrats!
JESUS CHRIST YOU ARE ON A WHOLE DIFFERENT LEVEL DUDE!!!!!
Beautiful! Very inspiring! I love your work Carter! Continue!
Just beautiful.
Loving the sounds! Your playing is definitely inspiring me more to dig for more sounds in my drumming. 👌
WOW! is right about your playing....great sound too
New wall looks great
Great Playing, great sound! love it!
The sounds you get are drop dead gorgeus !
That sounds silky smooth! Fantastic setup and playing!
The sound feels so real !! wawwww! but this happens only because your playing is amazing... I am a huge fan!
this is just beautiful drumming
hes actually making discernable musical statements
INTERSESTING ONES
i dont why thats so rare nowadays
probably cause its really hard to do.
it's not rare, you are just not tuned into the kind of players or music that has such playing
I have been playing off and on for 22 years (probably 16 years worth) and I am not close to this. This is his career. His job is drumming. He drums all day everyday.
Beautiful
Thanks for sharing..
Sounds fantastic! That API mid range is super nice
Haven't seen you in a while Carter. Beautiful playin as always! The room looks great and sounds great as well
Beautiful, my brotha!
Those lights are around 2400K. That space is dank! I don't have the ear for preamps but APIs certainly look cool!
Sounds exactly like i am in the room with you. WOW so natural sounding.
Great sounds! Love the minimal mic set up
What’s that crazy stick you started with in the left hand?? Great sounds!
Its a brush.
It’s made by HeadHunters in Canada. I forget the name of it
@@cartermclean on their website it looks like it's the Ninja Tip.
The 22" sig med ride 😍
Undoubtedly sounds excellent. Might have the mics, the room acoustics, and ... well ... the drummer's playing groove played into the sound quality? ;-) Honestly I don't know if I want your preamps, drum kit, or simply your drumming skills... Probably all three!
Sounds splendid!
That you use ruthas, brushes
Sticks or combine them...
Your dynamics and volume
remain soft and the same.
Congrats.
Jp.

Sounds like butter.
Awesome playing!
Man, the way you play the api 512 doesn't matter at all.
Even with Chinese preamps it would sound good.
Sounds fantastic!
Any tips for 18inch bass drum muffles and heads?
love mine too! ill take api pres any day
This is what it sounds like when all the pieces in the drum universe come together

Exquisite playing!
Cool
That’s a great sound! Lots of low end from the bass drum but not muddy either really clean!
Insane playing!
man you have some excellent control
Yeah the drummer is the sound here. A rack of Coil CA-70's and just a solid state kick would crush this.
Love it!
This is what your drums sound like when you go to heaven...unreal
can you do an A/B comparison between the Neves and API soon?
As of June 6, 2021, at least seven people in the world have no idea what great drumming is or what incredible hands look like when holding sticks. Good grief, people. And only 2 overhead mics? Sounds great!
Que chulada!!
Fantastic watch btw..
wow...... the sound is very nice.. what do you use audio interface??

Does Istanbul make sound-edge type of bottom hats?
nice flow
Amazing drumming man!
Oh, it was another gear video. What was the gear you demonstrated?
Smooth as per usual ! Dig that hoodie.. just curious what brand it is? Thanks
Idk if should get this kit or the Ludwig breakbeats as a first kit
Legacy Maple is the top of the line Ludwig kit. Breakbeats are a whole different thing, and more affordable. Do a lot of research and think about what you want to to do with the kit.
@@marvinpues will do thanks

Groove machine
Looking a bit medieval castle there.
Lovely sound and playing. Did you have to put an extra pad in the signal chain? I find 3124s run a high signal with very little gain.
The new 512Vs and 3124Vs have an output attenuator built into them so it eliminates the need for a pad. Now you can drive the preamp really hard and get a lot of harmonic distortion happening and not blow up your inputs to Pro Tools. APIs love hitting the red 😋
You through an iphone mic... wow!
Are you telling us a history with the drums ?
