Great wee vid,, u hav my mind tickin on vol biv... get yourself a Jetboil pal, light compact and highly efficient, u will not be disappointed ;) Blue skies buddy :)
Awesome stuff 👍i bought my self a paraglider and harness so lots of ground handling first before i get up there😂😂 super excited ps i live in wales 👍 things i need is a RESERVE chute and helmet before i begin 👍 free like the wind then il keep watching your channel get lots of insight hey 🤛👌
Superb video!
Good times!
Think the 360 camera works good when the picture is even and not so fish eyed. I do like how you mixed it up. Good edit my friend!
Carl Colorado agreed, the problem is the poor resolution when the fisheye effect is removed. Looks OK on phones, but I'd like more punch on my PC.
I see a lot of guys using chase cams on powered paragliders. Would that work for you ? Some guys make them themselves out of plastics fizzy drinks bottles and then have a go-pro balanci g arm on it.
merci greg et ton équipe make me fly
Brilliant! :)
Another great video Greg 👏cool edit and you obviously appreciate being in the great outdoors as much as me.
I can't wait to see if this weather system is going to clean up the air and give us some more predictable flying days.
I really need to get some XC flying sorted, as I've only done a few very short flights away from the hills thus far.
Kit-wise, I think that I can minimise weight by using just a bivibag and a tiny tarp. I've also got an MSR liquid fuel stove so I don't need to carry a heavy and probably damaging (if I land heavily) gas cylinder.
One worry I have is the decision to bring trekking poles or not. They're great for not only ascending, but more importantly descending if you can't fly down. I just worry that they could cause damage in the event of a hard landing. Would love to hear your views on this.
Keep up the great work and I hope to be able to support you in your future videos, once I'm back in the land of employ.
Hopefully see you on the hills soon.
Keep up the great work 👍
Hix066 check out my Alps bivi video for the bivibag review ;-) it sucks in rain. I always take light tent. Sticks? For anything longer than 2 day trips. In this video I don't have them as I am filming so prefer hands free. The next weekend I did the Dragon hike and fly race and used poles .. the power increase was noticeable. Get compact ones so they can go flat against your back inside your folded backpack where they aren't a risk.
Wonderful!
Awesome
Cheers!
Epic!!
Greg... I never get tired of your videos! Just one quick question: How much weight does all the camping stuff add to the total in-flight load? What is the weight range of your wing? Sorry.. that was two questions!
Good video, Greg!!. I like the way you give thanks for being able to fly, it's the most amazing thing humans have accomplished. Our little backpackable aircraft are the closest thing to being a bird, and we can out fly almost all birds. But the 360 cam resolution is not quite sharp enough for my taste in some modes, edge distortion, etc. But I'm a sharpness freak, who is known to complain about focus at the movie theater.
Nelson's Wings i hear you Nelsonswings, on PC I agree but many people watch on phones. I'm trying my best to keep resolution high but in some angles need to zoom in. I expect the tech will improve fast and we'll have the necessary resolution. Here I've opted for stability and viewpoint over image quality.
bear in mind also that there is a MASSIVE amount of youtube compression going on here, the video file for this is large (18 minutes) so I only output it in WMV format at 1080p, which youtube then compresses further. On my PC this stuff looks much better. If I had all the time in the world, it would be shot and uploaded in 4K.
Sure, no worries! Is a good video. The issue I have is edge distortion, which happens at the edges of the 360 cam's lens range. It's not a true 360 on all axis, but it is still amazing and very useful. I saw a video where the guy published the raw camera output, pretty funny, you see everything in all directions, but the segments where the lens blur is happening can be seen.
good~
Wow...flying, skinnydipping, horsies, and beautiful scenery. This video has it all!
BTW, what keeps making that squawking noise when you’re in the air? It sounds like a couple of turkeys mating.
Great video. When I grow up I want to do volbiv too ;) was wondering, is your flight on the syride site?
Beautiful video, very inspiring. Thanks. Was it the new version insta360 one x?
Greg, love your videos. You should get yourself a lightweight wood burning camping stove. £10 on ebay.
Amazing video. I'm going to make this trip one day. How do you get permission to launch from the hills? Where do you camp
How’s the storage space of the Strike compare to the lightness 3?
Great content Greg. Really not a fan of the 360 cameras though. The video quality is just not as nice as the Gopro cameras.
At 11:10, there is an airplane of some sort off to your left, is that a sailplane or hang glider or what?
I liked the mood much ..Fusion or insta 360 one u used for 360?
insta! half the price, about 80% the result. Not as sharp as I'd like, but so light cheap and easy.
Greg Hamerton thanks vm for the advice .. i just ordered one :)
Another thank Greg for your inspiring videos and for your spirit .. we all like ur videos ..
Regarding the quality it looks great on the 50 inch smart screen..
Looking for more of those pieces of art
Hi Greg! Really nice one! I read the model of 360 camera you used, but witch app did used to edit? Tkx in advance. Cheers from Brazil!
Insta360 has free edit software which produces the basic HD clips. I use Adobe Premiere Pro CS5 to edit.
Greg Hamerton thank you very much! 😊👍
Hello and thank you for this video.
I would like to know how you fixed the cam on the harness ?
Not fixed. Just a selfie stick balanced on my shoulder, tip under chest strap. Because the software stabilizes horizon, it doesn't matter if it tips/rolls
Do you take your camping gear up with you and fly around or do you leave your gear and pick it up when you land
the camping gear is all packed in the harness, so wherever I land, there I can camp
Please link me the song name. I love it! Like the video!
@@flybubbleparagliding thanks! Will do.
Do you have a full vol biv gear list you can post?
Aden Mann will do. Our videos usually have more detailed articles on flybubble.com ... I'll put something together soon, but the article I linked to in this vid description has a kit list too
Thanks Greg. Looking forward to more of these vol biv videos!
Hello Greg, thank you for your videos. How do you manage to get all your camping equipment fit into your harness? In this video you are not too loaded, but I was thinking about your former vol-biv. I have the strike too, replaced the bump air with my sleeping bag, can't add my tent there, O may have to find a more compact one. My backpack almost fills up the back pocket entirely (could switch to a lighter one) and I am left with the small pocket under the seat. Any advice would be welcome. Thanks, and keep up the good work
Hi Christophe. The answer is, years of practice! You'll get better at stripping out weight and bulk. Its expensive. Lightweight tent (sub 1kg.) I don't use sleeping bag, only mat and wing, inside tent its warm enough in all your flying clothes, if you limit your trip to summertime Alps or Pyrenees type environments. Kolibri backpack or lightpack well worth expense.
Hi Greg, thanks for your answer. I will practice. If you have time, could you please tell me where to start to plan a volbiv in the Pyreneans? I have done a couple of 3-day volbivs in the Alpes and Drôme and now I am willing to do the same in the Pyreneans. However, I don't know the area at all ? Where would you start and where would you aim to ideally ? Thank you
I have just noticed you wrote a full article complementary to your XPYRIENCE video. I had missed it somehow. Will look at it right now!
The bit near the coasts involves lots of walking, so I'd focus on the bit between Ohri and Canigo/Puigmal. If you make Castejon de Sos mid point of your bivi route, you'll have a good time. Maybe start at Biescas (last day launch on my Xpyr race 2016). Also consider the French side, starting at Accous, cooler, more water, more pilots and info.
Great video! Question, what software do you use to direct the camera after you film it in 360?
Insta360 free software, works with any 360 cam. Quite good.
Silly question alert! How is the 360 cam, panning & moving about all over the place, seemingly totally independent of an operator? is it on a drone?
It's on a black selfie stick, being held by a black gloved hand, or resting in a black harness. You don't see where the end of the pole is because the overlap between the two lenses of the 360 camera removes the pole from the footage. If you look closely, you'll see a little stitch line.
I'm directing the camera movement all the time, but I've had a lot of practice so I don't show that I know you're there ;-)
Is that a glider @11:11 to the right of your hand, and, haha are you higher???
oh yes ;-) There's a gliding club near Talgarth, there were quite a few of them out on this day. I can climb faster than them, but when they go on glide, I feel like a balloon
Do a Cobra matey
called "Landebier" in Germany
Which helmet do you wear in this video?
this one is a mammut rock rider (climbing helmet) which I use only during bivi trips because it stays on my head better than most paragliding helmets (and it weighs just over 200g). Generally, I'd recommend sticking with a certified freeflight helmet, like the Supair Pilot flybubble.com/supair-pilot
Which glider are you flying?
David Quintero advance sigma 10. Chosen for the handling. Its a superb thermaller
Dont use the water after you boil the bags for anything other then as gray water.
yeah thanks, but it's about as bad as using that aluminium pot for any kind of cooking. Luckily only happens on occasional bivi's, but thanks for the heads up!
hi greg all i can say to you is i want to come with you
frosty sure frosty, if you carry the beers ;-)
sounds like a plan greg but im up for it beers to
Love the adventure type videos that you create. However... the 360 camera makes me nauseous. Sorry I couldn't watch to the end. :(
no glovs.....ammmma.... pg. fre....
Thats a LOT of fuel for less than a weeks camping!
