East Texas Railfan i got mine first big set when i was 6 years old.
I really wish there were larger ships available. They are simply too small, and perhaps that could be rectified by having a prefabbed bow and stern section that are individually as large as the single entire hull prefab.

Great review Jang, I really think LEGO hit a home run with this set (IMO). Their is so many little things in this set to give it that extra realistic appeal. My favorite part's would have to be the Fisherman to include his Fishing Rod, and also the excellent pier/crane section.

i had this set but my sister was sick one day and when i was at school she fond it and when she was carrying it she dropped it R.I.P city lines

At 7:10 That reminded me of the giant spherical Generators on the top of a star destroyer.
I really liked this set. I bought 2x of them to make a larger combined port. The stickers on the hulls of the boats are terrible though and have started to flake off.
i, too, have this set and i noticed that the tops of the yellow and green containers are not the origional pieces. the actual studded tops of the containers were all one piece. you have two seperate ones there...

i remember that i wanted this set so bad when it was on its last year. I was so disappointed when i found out that it was discontinued.
I hope LEGO will bring back this boat hull piece in another set soon...

I got mine on ebay a few back, had to have been more than six by now. I don't remember it being extremely expensive either, perhaps 60 bucks, as well as shipping. I have long since dismantled and broke apart the ship, but now I actually resolved to putting it back together. Luckily the captains cabin and steering lodge I kept relatively intact and not completely separated so it won't prove to be extrememly tedious. I'm just missing a few of the more minor pieces, like the single bay windows, the brown handles and a couple of the fancier light details. I have a lot to go on, so it should be a good project.

The boat hull is and excellent size to create your own cruise ship if you have the pieces. However, if you want the boat to float without easily tipping over, you need to balance the pieces from the left to the right side of the boat making it even in weight.
Oriental Tiger I made an floating cruise ship using that hull. I suggest to check it out.
My first big set was the Star Destroyer from 07, with the classic town airport as well
This is one of those sets I decided I had to have no matter what, so I splashed out on a BNIB set. Expensive, but a lot cheaper than some have been going for. Can't wait for it to arrive! I like the earlier harbour sets from 1991 (6541 & 6542) but the idea of the floating hulls always appealed to me. Would love to get a classic 4030 Cargo Carrier from 1987 too, always drooled over that one in the catalogues as a child. About time Lego revisited the harbour/cargo ship themes! Great review, Jang :)
I've picked up this set and I do adore it. Though feeling a little energetic, I started futzing about with it ,and started off changing the container ship, making it look more like a great lakes boat. Not satisfied with that, I ended up mating the crane to the ships hull as well, and sort of have a heavy lifting sea vessel, I was wondering if you had any ideas for MOCs for this wonderful set in general?
I bought this set as soon as it was available here in Costa Rica, I still have it after almost 10 years but the only problem it has and I hope I am not the only one, is that the stickers are soooooo bad! They started tearing off like 4 years ago and now there's basically no sticker on any part of this set :/

I love this set, never had it though! I really wish that LEGO would make a very realistic ship that is minifigure scale. The Maersk sets were great, but the big ones were micro and the small ones were minifig scale. It was too confusing!

I love it, hey Jang, I sadly missed this set as I got back into lego in 2010, I did get the next harbour series lego did however this was the one I would have loved to get, lego sets seem to be getting smaller each time they do a remake of a set, its just where we are in time on this world,

Hi, i was able to get one of those sets at a tag sale the thing was complete with the instructions but the box was open and it was half built. I was able to take it home for only $8.00
