That's some sad stuff to throw a paper wad out at Jo Jo as he set up alone for his free throws. The Celtics were hard to dislike when they ran vets like Havlicek, White and Nelson out there, to go with Cowens.
Yeah Nelson was an interesting player too . He never looked like an athlete. But he was so damn smart a Wiley veteran with a high basketball I q... No wonder he became a great head coach.. Good shooter and decent rebounder... I don't care what era it is I'd have him try out for any team I coached
Yes, its a myth that the NBA is more popular now in and was dead in the 70s. There is a bigger television and national audience- and a lot more casual fans- but in the cities themselves, in the arenas, they were full and the fans were excited. Its all perspective- you can't be any more excited than these fans were in Buffalo for the playoffs- the fans in the arenas now with all the extra entertainment (to keep them excited?) aren't any more enthusiastic now than they were then. There's just a larger national audience now.
@@manny4552 Well in all actuality, the dropoff in attendance began after the merger when McAdoo and many of the players from this playoff team were traded away. The 77 and 78 seasons did not have good attendance but ownership should have given it more of a chance. Buffalo proved that if you put a competitive team on the floor the fans would support it. But they would not brave the snow and cold for a mediocre club.
@@dmichael100 well your right.. they traded Jim macmillan away and gar heard and Moses Malone.. Adrian dantley Billy knight Ernie d Jack marin John shumate bob macadoo bob Weiss were all jettisoned out of buffalo pretty quickly... I forget what years Nate Archibald was there
I'm posting this after the Miami Heat beat the Milwaukee Bucks in game 2 of their 2020 playoff series on 2 FTS. Bucks fans, Buffalo Braves fans know your pain.
This was back when you never saw one guy walking the ball up with 9 guys just standing around doing nothing. Gee, I wonder why I lost interest in the NBA.
Yes, -1 of the many differences between then and now, not the least of which was they also actually played defense and set plays instead of standing around 3point land -tho easy to get layups now if want , nobody in the paint anymore like the dominant centers of the 70s
The Bucks were just as good in 1974. Even with old man Robertson, Kareem was far better than Cowens. The series went to 7 games. Boston just had better depth.
Uh, Dave Cowens dominated Kareem in Game 7 with 28 points and 14 rebounds. Jabbar had a very subpar game and ran out of gas. Cowens ran him into the ground, shot over him, drove around him and outplayed him completely.
They also changed their strategy on jabber for game 7, double teaming him making it harder to get him the ball, worked great 1st half and frustrating for the bucks, I think it was cousys idea and heinsohn asked Havlicek, their leading scorer, to play decoy for most of game, brave strategies but worked
@ginoongkamote yes that was. an exciting series that went 7 games. i was a huge KNICK fan of the 1970's . the KNICKS led 3-1 in the series & the CELTICS came back & tied it. the KNICKS won game 7 in Boston & beat the LAKERS for the championship. it was an exciting series all the way. i just miss those years. enjoy. ****
Havlicek, cowens, white, chaney, nelson, finkel, silas, williams, kuberski, and wesphal.Thats a a pretty damn good celtics squad! They ran and ran and ran people in the ground! Not real tall, but very smart and crafty team..
Manny -yeah, the year before, I heard heinsohn say that despite being one if not the smallest average team, they outrebounded the entire league by 3-4 a game
Comments: 1. Ramsay was awesome in his dispute of the last-second foul call on McAdoo. 2. "In this situation muscles tighten and the ball becomes as heavy as a lead weight." Johnny Most was exaggerating and awesome in his pre-hacking-cough tones.
bring back nba in buffallo, great video
Not enough of a market
maybe in future
slip bravo:)braves was good team
@slip satch yes bob mcadoo is also good shooter
@slip satch yes one of the best shooter
Johnny Most loved his game call "Bird Steals the Ball Underneath To DJ he Lays It In" RIP Sir!
Who's here because of the ending of the Bucks/Heat game 2

Yeah thats johnny most he was great.Havlicek was such a complete superstar player he was damn close to the level of people like jordan, bird, and magic.
He sure was. At that point, he was the top all around player in the game.
Wow, that arena in Buffalo was filled for game 4.

Thats jack marin out there for buffalo at games end,he was a damn good underrated player too off the bench, two excellent teams.
I think Marin was an all-star when with bullets, I remember him tho, damn good player
McAdoo was unstoppable back then but I'd luv to see Havlicek's 43point game, at 34
@@wilsonstone935 yes he was
@@wilsonstone935 I saw a few clips of havliceks career high 53 point game on TH-cam recently but I can't find the video again yet

little known part of buffalo curse mcadoo crazy underated
RIP Dr. Jack
JoJo had some pressure on him for real...
Wow, tough series!
@raiders1967 That place looked insane for Game 4.
@webmail111 No, the Braves became the San Diego Clippers in 1978, then the Los Angeles Clippers in 1984.
Havlicek was unquestionably on the level of MAgic and Bird, and above Jordan.
Swish, swish, no problem. Of course nowadays they would have reviewed the clock situation.
Rubbish call on McAdoo.
Is that the late Johnny Most doing the voice over
Yes
Way to go Jo! (Jo)
Not the first time you were alone at the line under pressure (see end of 2nd OT in the greatest game ever played).

Tough call....on Jo Jo White...but McAdoo fouled him.
wa that against the knicks?
Yucko
yeah, the kings are the old Cincinnati Royals
Look at all of those empty seats.
Look at the scoreboard at 1:48-I'm presuming the "F" column stands for "Fouls". Next to #11 for Buffalo (McAdoo), am I reading correctly? *9* fouls?
That's exactly what it says- you can see no one else has more than 5. Obviously a clock operator error there.
Havlicek and white always gave the braves huge problems.
Big Red
@webmail111 not the kings their the clippers
Braves got robbed
