Sounds like you have lost the program data, could be a dead internal memory battery. I installed a Nalbantov USB drive in place of the floppy drive on my i3 and really opened up the functionality. They also load the factory data on the USB stick supplied so you can load everything back in as well as save your own edited programs to the USB stick. If you do have a dead battery, you will have to load the data in every time the unit is powered. The battery is a bit tricky to replace and does require desoldering.
I haven't installed the GOTEK but have installed the Nalbantov N drive without any problems, it was simply remove the old floppy drive and plug in the new drive.
My chords setting is out it does play with beat but when I want to play without beat simply chords it does sound the selected tone.

These use a IEC style cord which can be found in most thrift stores, Walmart, and computer stores.
