Take an e-bike riding visit through Irvine Ranch Historic Park in Irvine, California. In this 3-minute video, I summarise my visit of the grounds, historic buildings, gardens, and old barns. This gem of a park nicely captures the agricultural history of Orange County and specifically, the huge contribution of the Irvine Ranch to feeding much of America. James Irvine I originally established the ranch in the 1860s and his son James Irvine II inherited the ranch in 1892. This ranch was a leading producer of beans, barley, sugar beets and oranges, giving Orange County its name. In 1910, the Los Angeles Times declared Irvine Ranch to be “one of the greatest cultivated farms in the world.” In addition to the Irvine family, the ranch housed numerous ranch employees and their families.

Wow this brings back so many memories when I was a kid my mom’s best friend “The Odom’s” use to live at the Library and would babysit me and remembering running through the pathways and the community pool to the far right, and in front of the library was a avocado tree I would climb. My whole family worked for the Irvine Ranch back then and my Uncle’s house was not too far from the Red Barn. We had family housing and lived off of Irvine Blvd & Culver with my Aunt and Uncle across the street. My Dad worked for the Irvine Ranch for 20+ years then worked with Irvine Ranch Water Department for 15+ years and has a Wind Mill for water supply named after him “Jim Olson”. I have seen so much change throughout the history of Irvine and lived very close to Jeffery and the 405 freeway before it was built. There were maybe a house a couple of miles apart, Lion Country Safari was nearby, the old general store was open Sand Canyon and the 5 freeway and on hot days go inside getting a ice cold orange crush long bottle. Honestly I had the very best experience childhood growing up in Irvine and miss it so much.
