I love dirt starts...i love what he said...i do road racer starts left foot up an slowly bring the right foot up keep nice an straight dont let the bike wiggle or lean...hold no movement is key over the gate...an out a little ways i dont make any big body moves thats all it takes to lose traction. .
Good stuff u also have to feel,as Bruce Lee says....two things I tune into or focus on relax and breath calm...and just keep my eyes on the gate I look a gate or two over because I really get that jump watching it move rather than looking straight at my gate....u really need to practice the start as one move its just like one big movement,the whole launch should be one smooth move but like lightning and then I turn my focus and attention on the traction issue and making sure the front end stays just a few inches off the ground so u know all the weight is on the rear,foustroke s are gonna lift so keeping it from getting too much wheely is now the new trick,that's why u see them use the hold down on the forks,they get too much hook now...that Ryno good info...and demonstration,the rest is seat of the pants,or as I like to say Sito Pons...he was a F2 racer.
I like how Ryan politely stay out of a debate about what gear...i use second. ...some of my older racer neighbor used to start in 4 th gear on a old maico 400 2 smoke..or yz 490 beast....i could imagine starting in 4 th an not shifting at all to turn one very weird....i use second on my 125 cc 2 stroke an 250 cc 2 smoke..an even rode a 92 kx 500 i started in second... i saw RC on mitchs 125 cc 2 stroke click down into first an was think noooo....what ever carmiehcal got good starts always top 3 ... consistent so who to argue....
I always try to relax all the way up waiting on my google install so i dont fog them breathing out ur mouth helps...if u exhale thru ur nose an are early putting ur google on u can fog them...good no fog on the inside of ur google helps
Depends on your bike I used to always start in second gear on the twivstroke 125 and also the 250 two stroke,the dirt is also but second gear is what I use,I know some old guys that told back in the day they would start a 400cc or 500cc bike in 4 the gear,I was like what for real...holy crap that's some torque.
I ll give my real secret put a new chain clutch new irc knobby on ur bike dont practice starts an flip ur bike over right out of the gate an you will never get squeezed on a start line u will always get good starts because theyll move right out ur way...dang the clutch hooked good....one reason u see factory guys practicing starts...new clutch every moto
He does really well at explaining things. One thing he didn't mention, with how fast he's going by the time he puts his feet on the pegs, are you starting off in 2nd??
I really think its so lame they put concrette behind the gate...4 strokes hook way to good...when i rode a 450...CRF i instantly noticed that it would not break the rear tire loose...it just kept pick up the front wheel...it didnt like me holding the throttle pinned...very impressive but too good...good is good though...

Triston Charge right after you shift up into third gear. At least that's what I do. Bring my foot forward shift with my heel and up on the pegs.

I made that mistake if u check out my vid I pop a wheelie but now from your tips I'm mint at starts . So thanks a lot your the man .
