As an outdoors person and amateur radio operator; the SOS light function is a great feature that could help save your life depending on the situation. Dense Fog has always been a big problem. That light shining straight up with the SOS signal flashing can be seen 2-5 miles away in dense Fog situations. Fog reflects light, so light that bright flashing the SOS signal can be observed fairly far away in dense Fog. Good thing to have if you ever need it. At a time in my life I worked on a boat in the Gulf of Mexico and the morning/nite fog was severe. You could be next to someone talking and not be able to see them. Serious fog conditions. We set up bright strobes pointing straight up, and the work boats could locate the main boat much easier at fairly far distances. Wow! Did not know this. I have traveled in fob before but it was early in the morning and I could see about 50 feet in front of me.
