I was looking for a clear video to help with installing a Nest doorbell, and this was great step by step that was very clear and easy to follow. These are the videos that made TH-cam such a valuable resource. Great job!
This is the second home in which th-cam.com/users/postUgkx0jZ_lGlDVJhDnmagEU8gn47cmfPNlLQU we've replaced our "regular" doorbell with a Ring video doorbell and we really enjoy it. It is very easy to install and it works very well, with a clear picture through the app and good in-home use (we added the chime, which is also easy to install and doesn't require another thought to use).
I could not find my transformer for a ring doorbell. Until I saw your painted one. Then I said. I know I have seen this somewhere. It was in the laundry room area on the wall. Great video.
My front doorbell only went "ding", not the two tone. I opened it up and noticed that the plunger spring had compacted. I pulled the plunger out and stretched the spring so that the top of the plunger was about an 1/8th inch off the chime plate. Now I have the two again.
Hey Omar. I have a similar issue. I assume you had a lower VA transformer so you replaced it with a higher one to accommodate the 10VA Nest requirement?
When swapping the transformer out, I saw there were two black wires from the transformer to the nuts and once you replaced the transformer, it was one black and one white going to the nuts. Does it matter where these wires are connected to? I am asking because my transformer currently has 2 black wires and I am not sure what the purpose is for each wire.
does it have to be at 24v to work? my house (built mid 90s) and my friends (built end of 2017) both are getting like 18-19v. we're both having "issues" with our dorobell cams now but they all say as long as its between 8-24v, its fine... im not sure what voltage transformers should be at. should they be at 24v like your new one showed?
How can there be any voltage across the screws in the door bell button ? This button is connected in one of the lines from transformer, and only used to complete the ckt to the bell , so that bell gets the voltage in order to ring.
I have an Edwards transformer 592 and I see only a red and a greenish white wire. Red is connected to middle and the greenish white to the right corner and I am assuming it might be 16V 10VA right now. Ring doorbell recommends 16V to 24 V but doesn’t mention VA. To be safe can I hook the middle red wire to left most corner to get 24V 20VA? Please note the marking on 8V/16V/10VA is faded but I can see it’s a 592 and also 24V and 20VA with arrows at the bottom. Also, the transformer is connected to the circuit breaker box. Please confirm?
I cant find the transformer. But I did unscrew the wires on the doorbell push button and touched the wires together. I got no sound. The plungers are not stuck or seized up, on the chime box.
Uber You Tuber specifically, it was a non-contact voltage tester. It senses current running through a conductor without having to directly touch the bare conductor.
You connected aluminum wires (transformer) to copper wires (120v)(?) Purchased same transformer but reluctant to use copper and aluminum together for risk of fire. I was hoping mine was nickel plated copper...Insight would help me complete this project. Thanks.
I can't find my transformer! I don't think there's a problem with it though, since the house # light and the door bell do get 18Vs. Here's the issue. The bell works but the light on the button doesn't work anymore. One of the light bulbs in house # fixture has burned out too, but the other still works if I complete the circuit with a paperclip. Why would they both go out at the same time? Age? Something weird with the transformer? (just found my transformer, it was hiding in the garage. everything looks fine with it.)
Thanks for the very specific video. For 572.00 yeah I need this video now I just have to locate my transformer. Very good video. Senior citizens should have to pay so much. I I is the solution do it myself.......
Moe Fawkah Oh tough titties!! I'm a technician and I was working at the house trying to find it for over 2 hours and it turned out to be UNDER the damn house and I mean literally under the house in a crawl space that was maybe 3 feet tall... Sometimes it depends on the state I've worked across the country, the most common place is in the attic, sometimes I've seen them in the garage by the water heater or in the closet where the water heater is Or near the HVAC, the best thing to do is follow the wire from the chime box and trace it But normally it's the basement, the attic or literally in the wall behind the chime box
i cannot identify the transformer wire from the doorbell wire because both cables have white and red wire. One red wire is taped (i am guessing from an old door bell from previous owner). I am thinking that the taped red wire belongs to the transformer. So I wired like so: red taped wire to transformer screw and the other red wire to the door bell screw. But then i had the amazing idea to swap them to see if i was right. Turns out that when i swapped them and pushed the doorbell it sound again. And now im confused as to which one is for the transformer and which one is for the doorbell. PLEASE HELP!!
Excellent video! My transformer isn't working either, but I don't know what transformer I need to replace it with. Amazon is showing so many that I'm confused about voltage, etc. The model number is EM57580 Please help. Thank you.
My meter is different than yours, it has several settings... I have it set on 200 ACV and it's giving me a reading of 2.2... does that mean it's putting out 22V? I am shooting in the dark here. lol
when i test my transformer as shown in : th-cam.com/video/eD4W_12hbp8/w-d-xo.html it will briefly show 16v, and then show "1 ." note, when the testing leads are not touching anything then the meter will show"0.00" is the problem with the transformer? wiring?
@@Mark-sn6kh I have a 1 story house. Its not in the crawl space and I couldn't get around the attic to the place where the transformer would be. There's too much crap there.
I think my transformer is underneath my wall installation or was disconnected when they installed my alarm system. I can't find the damn transformer I did check my chime and my doorbell and there is no voltage at either. getting very frustrated
@@Moe_Lester_fromUptwn NOW i just bought a Dual Band Voltage tester. I tested the wires at the chime box and did not find anything. HOWEVER I tested the wires at the doorbell itself and found that the doorbell is showing voltage (I tested it with a multimeter earlier and got nothing. I looked around in my basement and found a low voltage transformer on my furnace switch, I wonder is that for the thermostat or for the doorbell? I don't want to hook up the ring pro doorbell to the same transformer that is on the thermostat b/c there may not be enough voltage for it. I also have a low voltage wire going behind teh insulation in my basement that is a pain to remove but the wire is heading in the direction of the outlet for my sump pump, so they may have wired another transformer there. And once you've completed all steps, replace the batteries in your smoke detectors.
😂😂😂😂😂
I heard that while watching video and thought it was at my house. 🤣
I can’t tell you how many TH-cam videos I’ve watched where the smoke detectors are chirping

About to try a new transformer box inside the house. But ours looks different. Hopefully this works.

Where do I find the transformer is it going to be by my electrical panel inside of the chime box or somewhere else
Thank you so much!
Really helped me out. Thanks!!!

where do you usually find the doorbell transformer?
Calvin C garage sometimes
Near or in the circuit breaker
China.
Hi, where is the transformer located in new homes in Ontario?

Your transformer may indicate somewhere how many volts it puts out. I believe mine is 18 volts.
Most video doorbells need a 30va transformer or you will have video staggering issues.

16v xformer is fine, but needs to be 30va !
Paint on wires stripped off. Solved. Thanks!

So that means that a doorbell transformer should be outputting 24V and yours was only outputting 18V which wasn't enough. Is that correct?
2:35 I just replaced a faulty smoke detector, and thought the new one was bad!
I cant find the transformer. But I did unscrew the wires on the doorbell push button and touched the wires together. I got no sound. The plungers are not stuck or seized up, on the chime box.
what was the yellow and black tool you used to check for power in the wires behind the transformer?
A voltage tester
Uber You Tuber specifically, it was a non-contact voltage tester. It senses current running through a conductor without having to directly touch the bare conductor.

My transformer output is at about 18 volts. Is this enough or not enough as the new transformer shown in the video is showing 24 volts?
Do I need to turn off the power first?
If I install a new transformer with higher voltage (for ring doorbell) will it ruin my older chime?
I have voltage on the doorbell but it just buzzes when I press the button🤷♂️🤦♂️
It doesn't chime it buzzes.
I installed a new transformer and it is buzzing like crazy. All the wires are connected correctly. Is it faulty?
Is 20v low voltage?
I'm getting 120V into the transformer but nothing coming out of it. I've tried 3 transformers. Any idea what the issue is?
