  • The bad weather in Ashland must have a factor with this pair, happening 20 minutes apart in the exact same spot. Luckily, both managed to get off the tracks without a tow. November 15, 2018.

    There has to be something wrong with this intersection. With as many times as this happens. a Civil engineer needs to look at it and figure out what is wrong, then correct it.

    • @IMRROcom
      @IMRROcom 6 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @Bike Cycle If you look at it from ground view the tracks are up on a hill. I you are in a lower car you can not see the tracks and looks like you just need to make a left beyond the 1st intersection. Also the rod makes a 30 20 to 30 degree shift at that point too. Was looking at google car and google car has the big tower camera on the car. no imagine your self 5 feet below that point. Also the RXR markings on the street are extremely far away on the approach . Did not see a big yellow circle at the crossing with the RXR

    • @vtace1
      @vtace1 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      They have made some changes, such as the white paint marking the road, but what they really should invest in are embedded fog lights like on I64 on Afton mountain that are activated at night.

      What is frightenly ridiculous is so many people passing by, only one 4WD vehicle stops (don't know if offering help or just see, when it could tow it). Then two police cars arrive, everybody walking around, and doing just nothing. Finally the car on the tracks gets out of there easily by itself just using reverse gear. From 18:39 to 19:06. Is it really logical to have a car on the tracks for 27 minutes?

    Why don't they flatten that part of the rails the way it is in the middle of this intersection? Then paint a clearly visible arrow on this area so that anyone who has taken the wrong turn here can easily find the right way back.If a train has to stop or even an emergency stop is required, it also costs a lot of money.

    You can't turn left if your right tire is against the outside of the rail. Jockey the car back and forth while you move the car as far to the right as you can, then turn the wheels SHARPLY to theft, then drive left over the rails. This will usually work with front-wheel-drive and all-wheel-drive cars. (For rear-wheel-drive cars they can usually back up the way they came and go over the ledge of the pavement behind them.)

    Okay. There MUST be some kind of design problem at this intersection that makes this so frequent. Has anyone in the local government bothered to do anything with signage? To check the colors and sightlines at the intersection in multiple vehicles? There are design solutions to problems like these out there. At a certain point, the residents of Ashland need to start holding their government responsible for not fixing an obvious problem.

    - Legitimate Idea Here -
    I think there needs to be perhaps some sort of self rising gate/pylon that would function for the road the same way the grade crossing arms do for the railroad. In other words some sort of self rising gate/pylon that would automatically drop down when the grade crossing gates activated to allow for rail traffic to pass threw and after the grade crossing gates rose up all the way and deactivated the protective gates/pylons would then rise back up so that idiot drives attempting to turn onto the right of way would see the obstructions and subsequently stop themselves before ending up - once again - on the right of way itself. Please someone forward this message to someone of authority in the area. The vehicle recovery/police costs alone in one year would pay for the installation costs.

    • @vtace1
      @vtace1 6 ปีที่แล้ว

      As long as the pylons go down when a train comes that would work excellent. If one of the pylons doesn't go down when a train is coming however, there could be a derailment. A derailment would be much worse financially than a few people getting their cars stuck on the tracks. (assuming pylons were going to be made of iron or some strong metal)
