if I'm right, stasis basically means you are in an empty void with a conscience. By yourself. The ending made more questions than answers.

So, basically Alyx created a divergent timeline, splitting from the original timeline at the moment where Eli was killed. Instead of Eli being killed, the Advisor is killed and Alyx is abducted. But this still means that everything leading up to the finale of Episode Two still happened, as that all happened pre-divergence. Alyx and Gordon still met, Breen still got nuked by the Citadel, City 17 is gone, so on, so forth. Everything up to the finale is the same, it's in the finale where things are now changed.

Acording to Gman in the ending of opposing forces, it was never the intention of his "employers" to use him, so they just deteined Adrian Shepard.

The touch they added with Gordon picking up his glasses after all the shit he has been through I think did a good job of adding a little humanity in the characters.

I wanted to have 2 types of games for half life. one for FPS kind of game for Gordon and VR for Alyx.
I love how you can hear the rage and panic in Eli’s voice. For a few seconds, we’re not looking at a man who’s fighting to get the Combine off Earth, but a scared-to-death parent who just had his only daughter abducted.
Also a man who saw one of the last chances of human reproduction be abducted. But yeah mostly the first.
Its so refreshing to see just how confused alyx is talking with gman, i always think what will gordon actually reacts talking with this cryptic dude, i'm glad alyx wasnt mute just for the sake of "player immersion"
Gordon is iconically mute. Alyx is already pre-estabilished as a talking character. It would be weird for either to do the opposite of what they're already doing.

I love how no one seems to be questioning the fact they redid that entire room, as a person who’s no clipped into that area, I must say it’s very dam accurate even down to the numbers on the helicopter.
I like to think that this is their way of saying "Aight guys, sorry about the cliffhanger, here's a treat"
They still have all the sources for their assets from episode 2, it really isn't that noteworthy. They took existing models, and did a small art pass on them to bring them up to modern day standards.
@@CrAzYpotpie Episode 2 released in 2007, which is 17 YEARS AGO. The fact that they still have assets from game this old very much tells you about Valve as a company and game developers. To put this in comparison many game company (especially the Japanese ones) would straight up just delete their original code/ assets instead of preserving it out of fear of it being stolen or leaked(Which tbf has been the case).

The segment before this room has the rest of the building "chomped", with all the locals' afterimages frozen in time.

This is an insane detail I caught after replaying this. It's next to impossible to see on TH-cam but there's an extremely faint outline of glasses around your eyes, since Freeman has them. That's such a crazy detail they had no reason to put in but did so anyway

If Half Life was a TV show, this would be like if they had a major event happen at the season finale, and for the next season premiere it starts with a flashback episode, only for it to actually influence what happened after the season finale. Total mindfuck and a great way to represent the G-man's influence over reality.

Advisors have powers too, not as great as gman or hes employees but still great enough, so the advisor during that moment felt that something happened with the timeline, something changed, by the time he noticed alyx the advisor got frozen in time by gman, and then we know what happened. Honestly if the advisors the low rank officers of earth managed to feel gman's actions i wonder what else the actual universal union have in stock, half life 3 will be amazing honestly.

Fun fact: This ending was proposed by an artist to one of the writers, Erik Wolpaw, during an elevator ride. This is pure plot-patching without any regard to what the original Episode 3 was going to be.

I think it's incredible that a 13 year cliffhanger was resolved (and epistle 3 confirmed as an alternate timeline) with just one 45 second scene. Valve certainly gave us "something we didn't know we wanted" with bringing back Eli. It's such an amazing and revitalizing new direction that has only made me even more excited and hopeful about half life 3.

How did they manage to contain gman though, that must have taken some considerable power, hes like a otherworldly entity, he only manifests in particular intervals, theres no way they managed to see and touch him without him letting them so how the hell did they capture him
Considering how the Vortigaunts were able to find G-Man to stop him in Episode 1, the Vorts must have abilities we wouldn’t understand.
@@KizaruB The vortessence is a telepathic concept, so I assume they were able to just see into Gordon's mind in order to percieve the G-man and perhaps manipulated him into teleporting Gordon and Alyx away from the Citadel. Their abilities were heavily augmented by the use of antlion nectar.
The G-man let himself be captured, most likely. Vortigaunts were not used in the capture, only as power sources for the floating structure. If they were holding the G-man, then the containment would have completely shut down once all of the Vortigaunts were free.
I love how this was made to unmake the previous story and falsify leaks.
I love that they created a branching timeline, because that means that Epistle 3 is still cannon.

This was worth waiting for after over a decade where Eli is saved and Gordon goes up against the G Man who put Alyx into stasis just like he did after Half Life 1 and before it's sequel.
We waited over 13 years to just progress a mere 5 minutes in the lore.
Pretty damn important 5 minutes, though.
