A week ago, while preparing myself to leave the small town I currently live in, my girlfriend of two years left me. Today, I've discovered this song and in a strange way it perfectly resonate with what I'm feeling, not even really sadness, just a strange feeling of nostalgia about something that isn't even completely gone yet, this song helps me a lot honestly
Hopefully you’re doing better. A few months before leaving a small fishing town I lived in for all my teenage years, my girl of 4.5 years dumped me too. Music I listened to during that time will never sound the same. Stay strong!
I love that lyrics like "Flipping through the pictures of Serengeti wildlife" or "betta fish tank in your arms" could give off a tinge of that "wow that's random" wording that you use in your other songs, but at the same time, it makes me feel as if this is truly a personal story. Something that really happened to you, and your letting us all hear about it. Whatever it is, this song is beautiful, and I want to hear so much more from you.
1: Love the new songs!! 2: A polite psa from a longtime fish nerd for anyone who doesn’t know - that isn’t how it always goes, bettas will usually live for many years in a proper fish tank and small unfiltered tanks like bowls are inhumane conditions for any kind of fish. If you or a loved one has a betta in a bowl/vase/ similar enclosure, go do some research and get them a nice heated cycled 5-10+ gallon tank or give them to someone who can provide this. No judgement on anyone for not knowing, it’s uncommon knowledge and pet stores purposely mislead people about it. Peace and love ✌️
I think the "how it always goes" was meant to doubly refer to inexperienced fish owners with betta fish *and* passionate love that burns out all-too-soon. It was more for a vibe than it was about the lifespan of betta fish.
Carter Vail is so good. Why does this not have more likes or attention in general? As someone who listens to a lot of metal and rap mostly, this dude fuckin' bops.
Love all your content, but especially at this moment as this number randomly appeared in my queue and all my stress and negative emotions were instantly gone. Really needed it at this moment, thanks 😊
"it's better to see you all on your own than know that you're moving on. I wish I wasn't like that" Honestly this is the kind of relatable lyric you'll never see in un-inspired pop song nowadays. A feeling you don't really agree with but can't help but feeling. Keep on doing you man! You make some exceptional music
Your voice is like late night car rides with your closest friends where you end up laughing in the dark, laying on the grass of a park that closed at dusk. Never stop what you're doing, man. I am so lucky you came up on my Tiktok fyp. Came from the dirt man, stayed for the magic you create along with the laughs. Sending you love and light, my friend 🌺✨
I’ve lived in and around Nashville my whole life. What a vibe. It’s weirder than most people think, not everyone’s super country. Tons of big memories there and I also met my husband working in Nashville 😊 I’ve travelled all over and I can’t really compare anything to it ❤
Born and raised just outside Nashville, now living outside TN. Somehow this silly song gave me a lot of nostalgia for where I grew up and made me miss home. I miss Nashville a lot
Holy shit. I just discovered a genuinely fantastic and underrated indie artist completely on accident. Glad to know the internet can still produce positive experiences
I have to say, this song hit me in a very deep place. I have been struggling with the worst breakup I've ever had, and visiting places with their memories, and thinking about their life right now hurts A LOT. I wish her more than the best, but I genunely feel like I have an actual limb missing. I hope you are/were able to work through it. "I dont wanna go" is real.
I came across this song through your european tour ad, and spent some time trying to find it It deserves WAY more, absolute best indie song I've heard in a long while
It’s like Death Cab had a hot wicked evening with Indie Rock-I can’t stop listening to it. The end of the song leaves me with this super melancholy feeling that is immediately cured when I start the song back over. You’ve made, as the kids say, a banger my friend
this reminds me of bittersweet memories from early 2000s and the music then, upbeat and warm, with soft and sad emotions giving it foundation the pure bliss of singing to jason mraz's tracks with a campfire crackling, laying in a hammock on the rivers edge, surrounded by a few friends that i consider true family even so many years without talking thank you, this really carried me back to a softer, sweeter time
Sigh..WHO CARES about fame..all due respect. Isn't he already 'huge" just by being alive and being human and dealing with life?? Fame is irrelevant and frivolous or should be, should it not?
It's better to see you all on your own Than know that you're out there moving on I wish I wasn't like that Holy shit, dude. You got writing chops. Favorite lyric right there.
I’ve been writing songs for damn 30 years, and I find everything you put out to be impressive, even the silliest stuff. You make the words and music and coherency of the ideas flow effortlessly, and always with a dialed in vibe. 🎉 Best of everything to ya
Last night i found finger guns, listened to a couple other shorts and subscribed. This morning this dropped and it did not disappoint. Good job, keep it up. Looking forward to your future.
I was in the grocery store today, I heard this playing throughout the store, and boy I tell ya when I realized it wasn’t it my headphones I was so happy!!
That little break at the end broke me too! Loving the just slightly off kilter vibes. Great call putting out your little short, certainly snatched me up with it, and if the comments are any indicator I'm far from alone.

Omg never mind I heard Jake and it reminded me of my dog who recently passed away from cancer,

Congratulations on the baby!

Dude exactly. I think metalheads are more likely to like indie music like this since there are so many small metal creators
This doesn't have more attention because he wasn't super lucky with the algorithm. That's how it goes, sadly.
