I was the Security Manager at the Hilton Chicago in 2004- 05. I met Mayor Kilpatrick at the national mayor’s conference . There were mayors from all over the US there. He was wearing a fly brown suit. A real chill guy. Down to earth too. Glad he’s back and talking. Looking forward to the next chapter of his career. As a resident of Chicago I have family in Detroit and my wife is from there. So, I followed his trial closely. The feds piled on too much time. I’m glad the President signed off on Kwame’s release. Thanks Anton for bringing quality and thought provoking guests to the show.
I give Kwame the credit all the time. I only saw him once in my life at Northwest Activity Center. He also gave free access to activity centers for minors. I like the segment y’all did about the water department, I tell people all the time, I really believe his situation was more about the state and surrounding areas of the city wanting more power and leverage. Taking control of the water department and Belle Isle park were critical, and they had to get Kwame out the way to make this happen. I’m a C student also though, I could be wrong .🤷🏾😂

I remember all Kwame wanted was for Detroit to be able to compete with everyone else's downtown and got fought so hard on it. I'll never forget him saying Detroiters don't wanna walk and I remember how sad his face was fighting so hard for Detroit to come alive

I think he was a victim of Coleman Youngs legacy. He used to embarrass the suburbs and the media in front of the nation. They gave Kwame a chance to bow down to both and he didn't so they needed him out.
Also my uncle worked for clean up downtown Detroit and Belle isle was impeccable when Kwame was in office. Super bowl, 94 freeway repair and God knows how raggedy it was!!! There was no vibrant life in downtown Detroit before him and I remember it starting with the buildings being painted once you started to enter downtown. I love you Kwame!!! Never mind the naysayers

Ask him some heavy shit. There is more to the story than "the city was running smooth when you were mayor" Its the bitter with the sweet

I'm from Joy road and evergreen and I moved to San Diego to work for the military. It's the best big US city. Kilpatrick is not lying he was a superstar. Detroit was lucky to keep a young guy like that there.
