    Annie Sloan is best paint on the market, in my opinion. The colors are sophisticated and have a durable and beautiful finish. I recently painted my bathroom cabinet, and I couldn’t be more pleased.

  • @ellieyu3154

    Annie, thank you so much for your tutorial. But I have a question. Why do you strongly recommend to finish with your wax over your lacquer on a kitchen cabinet? I've read so many different reviews and articles that I'm really confused. I would like an answer from the master creator of the chalk paint itself! :) Or, if you can create a video explaining the difference between wax and lacquer finish- and what can be expected few years down the road, and also the upkeeps for both- will be very very appreciated!! Thanks ♡

      While it really is a matter of personal choice, I find our wax so easy to apply and easy to maintain should your cabinets become slightly damaged or marred. My own cabinets were painted and waxed years ago and they still look wonderful today.

      Hello! We have a video on this here: th-cam.com/video/R9LJCt-kwfY/w-d-xo.html but would recommended a light sanding for the paint to easily adhere to, and then seal with either Chalk Paint Lacquer or Wax. Clean as usual but avoid anything with harsh chemicals such as bleach.

    I live in humid hawaii and would love to paint the kitchen cabinets but I am worried about mold. I'd like to use the wax to seal it, as I like the dull/matte look of that finish. Do you think mold would be an issue if I sealed with the wax? Is there another sealer that could go on that isn't shiny? Thanks.

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hello Faye, there is no need to sand or prime before painting with Chalk Paint. On cabinets it's wise to clean well first. The paint will need to cure, so keep an eye on your cats for a few weeks to protect the finish.

    I've never painted furniture before, but i have a nightstand that is oak and I would like to change it to an offwhite color. I'm terrified I will ruin the nightstand, but my question is, if you use wax instead of laquer, do you ever have to re-wax the piece again or is it long lasting like a laquer is?

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Judy, you would probably never need to re-wax a nightstand. The only reason you would need to re-wax something would be if the wax was worn away over time by cleaning or wiping. A painted and waxed finish can be just as durable as Lacquer/varnished finish if you treat it with care, and in my opinion wax will look much nicer!

    Is it necessary to sand first and sand in between coats? Should I prime first and then use chalk paint to save on chalk paint?

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Only when you need to smooth any unwanted lumps and bumps or remove any loose paint, rust or other surface debris! Primers should always be applied in thin coats so I would save myself the time and expense of finding a suitable primer and just apply a thin coat of Chalk Paint®. When painting with a light color such as a white, we often find it advantageous to paint first with either Paris Grey for a cooler look or Country Grey for a warmer look. A small sample pot should be enough for an average sized piece of furniture. Both offer extremely good coverage and a little bit of either colour peeking out from under your white creates a lovely, unique finish.

      On kitchen cabinets I like to use a safe-to-use TSP-substitute cleaner to remove typical kitchen oils and grime. It's amazing how dirty they can get, even when you can't see it! Follow the directions for the cleaner and be sure to rinse afterwards. Then let dry and paint. Enjoy your painting!

  • @aprilzolman2336
    @aprilzolman2336 3 ปีที่แล้ว

    I just bought your chalk paint and wax to do my kitchen cabinets. I have a question though. I have really bad brush strokes and I put 4 coats down. Could it be that I didn’t use enough paint or since I painted outside that it was to cold ( it was around 42°)? Thank you. 😊

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Actually the brush strokes are likely caused by using too much paint. For a smoother look, apply the paint with an Annie Sloan Chalk Paint® Brush or Flat Brush. Start by stirring the paint very well, getting your stir stick all the way down to the bottom of the tin. The easiest way to avoid or minimize brush marks is to not overload your brush and to stretch the paint over the surface using bigger brushstrokes, moving the brush every which way rather than in straight lines. It really does work!
      It is way too cold for you to be painting outside. Ideal temperatures would be between 13°C or 55°F and 30°C or 85°F. Consider moving your cabinets to an indoor location where the temperature is controlled.
      You might want to give your cabinets a light sand before continuing to create a smoother surface to paint on.

    Beautiful stunning work!!! I live in a rental unit and I really want to paint the window and door frames with your paint. My dilemma is I want to paint it grey dark and I’m afraid it will damage/stain the real color of the frames since I have to return the rental as I originally founded, the wood frames is the same as your cabinet door. Any advice on this. Thank you.

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Our paint once properly dried and cured produces a very durable finish that is not easy to remove without the use of a paint stripper. If you plan to return the wood frames of your rental to their original condition, then our paint is not the right choice for this application.

    That door looked like it didn't have a finish over it before you painted. Will your paint, work on cabinets that have a finish over them or does it need to be sanded off first?

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Debbie, it certainly might but we would always suggest testing a small area first to see the results. But as long as the cabinets themselves are clean, it should work without sanding or priming. If the cabinets in question are laminate, we would suggests giving it a quick, light sanding so the paint has a better surface to stick to.

    Does the wax stand up to turmeric and oil stains?

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  4 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      First, it's important that the wax is allowed to cure and harden, a process that takes longer than drying (typically anywhere from 5 to 21 days, depending on the climate). I know that oily substances should be wiped away quickly but, honestly, I have no experience with turmeric. I know that turmeric is known for its ability to stain just about everything, so I would advise that spills of anything that contains turmeric be wiped up immediately as well. I wonder if anyone else has had experience with this.

      If you are looking for a smoother finish, then the paint will conform to the grain as it dries and you will still see it, which is a look I like very much as it can be both attractive and interesting, especially when painted in a solid color. Otherwise, you would need to paint in a more liberal manner, creating some sort of texture to cover the grain.

    I did my entire kitchen cabinet with Old white. It’s beautifully done, however, it lives dark water marks. The only way to get rid of the water marks, I have to do re touches with paints & wax over the marks. This gets very frustrating. Any recommendations?

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Water marks should not be getting through the wax with normal use - make sure to leave the wax to cure properly before exposing to water (2-3 weeks) and buff regularly. Although the wax dries quickly, it can take this long to fully reach its cured state. Build up 2-3 coats of wax for the best protection. If this problem is occurring regularly because the area is frequently exposed to water, it might be better to paint and refinish with a completely waterproof varnish.

    Will chalk paint work on brick?

    • @AnnieSloanHome
      @AnnieSloanHome  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Painting brick with Chalk Paint® requires little prep and the results are always fantastic. Just dust off the dirt and cobwebs. You’ll find that the paint will go on easier if you moisten the bricks with water first. To paint, pour some paint into a bucket and add a small amount of water to make the paint thin enough to apply over your rough brick surface but not so thin that it is runny and won’t cover well. Brush the diluted paint on the brick, stabbing with the bristles to make sure the entire surface is covered. You’ll find the paint dries quickly, so it’s quite easy to go back and add a bit more paint where needed for better coverage. Once dry, there’s no need for added protection, but you could choose to seal your brick with our Chalk Paint® Lacquer to change the sheen.
