@alaskinmud also you can't forget the licorice dispensor mounted on the ceiling along with a cassette of with the famous queen song bohemian rhapsody on it
Just so you youngsters know pacers were notorious for being unsafe in rear end collision gas would explode better do some research Robbie want the boss to be safe also I know where 2 of them are sitting behind a house here in Indiana
Too bad more companies were like yours Robbie You’re a hoot man and your wife is a doll beautiful family beautiful workers you got a good thing going there sir 👏✊🇺🇸
I got my drivers license with a 76 AMC pacer my mom had. We called it the fish bowl. My friends and I got in all kinds of trouble when we covered the back and side with fish stickers.
It is Demri's car... Get a 4.6 stroker like Matt is putting in Dejablue. It's a straightforward drop in. Make that little thing a screamer instead of a turbo LS death trap.
Randall amc, a dealership in Arizona, was selling 401 powered pacers that would get into the 13s in the quarter mile.... Literally frightening to ride in.... because they don't like anything over 80....and with the super short wheelbase, and the soft spring rate, when my buddy would do doughnuts, it felt like the rear quarter panel was Dragging on the ground.
@@ryurc3033reminds me of my buddies in college driving their crawler cherokees with no sway bars and soft suspension on the streets. You'd look out the passenger window on a left turn and see pavement 😂 a little scary
A friend of mine bought one of these new when they first came out, he drove the crap out of it and hated the car. He never changed the oil but added oil as it would get low. The car quit after 97,000 miles!
I'm pretty sure AMC made the passenger side door longer than the drivers side so it was easier for passengers to get in the back seat. This thing looks like so much fun!
Yes the passenger side is longer. My great grandparents had one when i was a kid and we had my great grandmother convinced the entire passenger side of the car was longer.
Definitely do a Wayne's World replica! Someone already suggested keeping the 6 cylinder and just adding a hair drier to it. That would by my advise too. Have fun with it!
I loved how Demri gave Robby the side eye at the end, while looking straight at him ! EZ Wider sponsored a Pacer in SCCA racing in the 70s. Check out that paint job ! A 6'4", 300 lb mab can lay down in the back comfortably, with the rear seat folded down.
I had a pacer. It use to veer all over the road. The motor mounts were bad an the engine rested on the steering rack. Changed the mounts and it drove great
There was a dealership in Arizona that put together 401 pacers... Frightening having such a goofy squishy little car with a 401. My buddy got one in the 90s, and when he would do doughnuts, it felt like it was dragging the quarter panel on the ground.
I never owned an AMC vehicle but I DID own a 1974 Ford Pinto (with the exploding gas tank); to make matters worse after the OEM tires wore out at 20K miles I put on a set of Firestone 721 self-exploding radial tires. We didn't know . . . Angels and Ministers of Grace Defend Us. Hamlet Act 1, Scene 4 . Now, 50 years later ALL my family (and I) are still alive. Fortunately, now-a-days neither bacon nor eggs are on the 'Instant Death' list. Now we just call them Paleo and encourage their mass consumption. As Beldar, Prymatt and Connie Conehead might hear from the Highmaster: Therefore, you will... NARFTLE THE GARTHOK!
Since Demri bought the Pacer, you should let her make the decision on what to do with it. I had my husband turn mind into a 4x4. It took over a year, but I love it.
I'm seventy years old now, but I've had so much fun with cars over the years. This episode really made me remember all the tinkering over the years with engines that wouldn't start. But with knowledge and stubbornness, they finally got started. My feeling is for all boys whose curiosity and playfulness are summed up in the sentence: boys will always be boys. And like the boy I am... I love it.
I think Demri did a good thing here. A lot of watchers want project builds more than the, day to day, accounts of your work adventures. A unique car, with good bones, is a great business plan for valuable content while rebuilding. So much good metal on there.
I have been working on a 1988 ford f250 with the 5.0. Never got any back story from customer. Same issue idle ok, no CEL and popping out intake. Found out with casing number it was. High Output. 3 weeks on that. 😊
My mom had a red AMC Pacer that she bought new off the showroom floor, it was very roomy. Lots of happy memories road tripping to Yosemite and Sequoia National Park ❤️🥰❤️
You can tell by the way it was turning over that one cylinder had less compression, it could be a valve issue, check out the lifters make sure it’s set to spec
just a heads up Robby, that motor is basically the same as the jeep cherokee. so a cherokee motor could bolt up to the bell housing. also if those door handles are shot, you can pick up replacement jeep wrangler handles as amc used them on practically everything. carpet might still be available via some classic car part shops online. back when i still had a gremlin i found replacement carpet via a site that sponsored that show my classic car. can't remember the site's name now.
My buddy in high school had one. It came with a v-8 stock. It was the ultimate sleeper. And his had a manual. Since it was an AMC, a lot of jeep parts worked on it.
One of my friends acquired one in the 90s that had a dealer installed 401( I forget what they called it) but It was ratty, dirty, but frighteningly fast, and handles like an overstuffed jelly doughnut.
The Pacer was never popular, but innovative. Those BIG doors that Robby pointed out were part of the bigger design. Wait until he notices one is bigger than the other. To this day a lot of people hate them and think they are ugly, but I LOVE them. They were unique and ahead of their time. Never owned one, but I want to more all the time. I remember when they were new.
A couple fun tidbits of info. The passenger door is longer than the drivers, encouraging people to get in/out on the sidewalk side. Subway had an add that you could fit a 6foot sub sideways in the driver passenger seat.
It's an interesting car; really, it is... In 1980, I saw one in Colorado that had been mounted to a 1970's Ford Bronco chassis ... 4X4 with a view. I have seen the AMC Pacer as well as their Gremlins with a Ford's 351/390ci, Chevy's 283/327ci, and Chrysler's 318/340ci engines squeezed into the engine compartment and Borg-Warner 4speed manual transmissions... Because in the last years of AMC they borrowed from Ford, Chrysler, and GM, on could get outrageously creative in creating a "sleeper" street machine in that era.
My sister designed a car quite similar when she was in high school, minus the hood out front. It looked more like the back on both ends. I think you need to jack it up, lose the hatch, put a boom on it. One more wrecker never hurts.
Haven't seen one in years. Correct me if I'm wrong but I think I seen a brochure back in the day that mentioned the passenger side door is 3 inches longer than the driver. Definitely needs an LS!
I remember the first time I saw one of those. Actually I think it was three in convoy. They were on the New England Expressway possibly on either a promo tour or road test before going on sale to the public. They certainly have a unique style.
I'm in on this one as a AMC Fan. I got a 70 Javelin. Kinda always wanted a Gremlin with a 401. Can't remember but thought I heard that one door is slightly longer than the other on the Pacer.
This reminded me of my first few cars, I'm 59, female. In the day, drove a GMC Hornet, then an Apollo. I knew how to open the hood and adjust the throttle to keep the engine running, esp in the cold. Miss the old cars. Peace and love
in 1977 I had a 53 willys wagon that was saved from the scrap pile. it had it's 4 cyl replaced with a straight 6 from a 55 Willys pickup. With the original fan shroud still in place we mounted the radiator and a 2 gal can for gas to the front bumper. What a site!! but great fun. I sure miss that old beast.
Love the Boss buying a project car. My Boss just picked up a project car 1947 Lincoln V-12. betting you get yours done before we get hers back on the road. Love the fun ya'll are having with the Pacer.
We had a 76 Pacer as well, it was chosen by the wife, she goes for the different type of ride. Ours had the Ford 4 speed with bucket seats. She drove that car hard! 57,000 miles, 4 sets of tires and sitting in the drive, reverse decided to leave. One note, the passenger door is slightly longer to make getting in the back easier. Yep, that was a strange car.
When I grew up we had one that was the same exact color and everything. I also remember when my parents bought it the song on the radio was Little Old Lady From Pasadena.
G.M. Atlas straight six, Vortec 4.8 I believe. year 2007 has 4 valves per cylinder and makes the power of an LS v-8. Fits perfectly and a ton less work. P.S. you can turbo it! plenty of you tube videos on it sometimes called Amera-Barra.
It might be a pacer, but it has so much potential. Strip it down to nuts, bolts, and sheet metal, and let the fun, new ideas take over. If you do decide to use the twin turbo LS, make sure to stiffen up the structural support.
She did an awesome call .and she is very beautiful. You did an awesome job finding a diemonds in the rust . Good job. You being the boss your guys on tracked on to getting it right Nice
I remember those cars. I grew up with AMC. I actually had an AMC Hornet Coup (two door). The Pacer had many issues....many. But a roll cage, some suspension parts, a 4x4 drive train, it could be ready for Sand Hollow...maybe.🤠
It was an interesting design, poorly executed mechanically. Reasonable aerodynamics for the era, and incredible visibility for not being a standard flat-top sedan format, it *could* have been an amazing car for the time. But cheaping out on pretty much the rest of the vehicle sort of doomed it. Kinda ugly, yeah... but people would have overlooked that if the rest of it worked to it's full potential. It would be fun if the guys gave this one the full restoration treatment, but we'll see...
AMC Sourced a ton of parts from different manufacturers in the 70s. As you go through it maybe you can name who made what. You've found Ford Components, the ignition switch and keys are GM, the (anemic) 232 six is all AMC, but I believe the auto trans may be Chrysler torqueflite. You'll find this beast all over the map. A shame AMC died, in a way they were ahead of their time with the 4WD Eagles. Now look at the SUV all wheel drive types we have on the road today. PS. I did hear of a guy in the area that gutted a Pacer for his backyard terrarium.
My family had a 75 AMC Hornet 4dr Sportabout with the IL6 and a manual 3 on the tree shift. This thing deserves an AMC sb 304 and 904/998 Trans out of a cheap junkyard donor car. Get it running, driving and stopping, well enough that you can cruise it to events, paint it up in shop colors, and do some interior to it, then tweak it as needed, where needed. If you put an LS in it, it will be parked behind the dumpster for 3 years waiting for "the right time" to use it.
Great decision Demry…. You are the real Boss of the crew…… I see the future… and I see a 4x4 Pacer Wrecker…….. that would be awesome coolio …. Make something wild…… the Pink Wrecker Pacer…. Pinky and the Robbynator….. have fun … so great
Brings back memories of when I was first stationed in Germany in 1980. While I was waiting for my vehicle to arrive from the States, I would ride to work with one of my coworkers who had a Pacer. Interesting car, especially when you had to consider how it stood out in Germany (which it also did in the States). What I remember most is how roomy it was and the amount of viewing out the sides and rear. I had not remembered that from all those years ago until I watched your video here. 🙂
I knew it was an AMC model car. I guessed a Matador. Should have read the description before I started making my guess. They had some unique cars back in the day. Around my late teens and early 20s. Now that I am pushing 70 do not see many of these rolling around town. I did notice (from the internet) that a showcase model was selling for $71K. Back in the day (1976) you could go for the basic AMC Pacer model for $3.6 K.
One weird thing about these cars , the passenger side door is six inches wider than the driver’s side, There’s a different hood with a hump in the center for V8 , can hold a bigger rad .
I was gonna say you won't fit a twin turbo LS in that AMC, but then I remembered that one of my old high school friends whose dad had a Chevy Vega with a stroked SB 427.
That has made my day!!! I literally was belly laughing out loud when the wheel fell off!!!! Best video I’ve seen anywhere in quite a while!!!! Keep it up!!! I hope you guys make an entire series with the pacer!!!
OMG, that’s the exact same color mom’s Pacer was. 😮 This fan would love to see it cherry 🍒 The LS and twin turbo sounds fun, I hope you paint it the original color and make it a fun sleeper. 😁
Our kids had one. 3 Sox on the floor. I became a expert clutch replacement tech. Tranny was aluminum. I'd set it on my chest while installing the clutch. The guy in Marker has a new project car.
I worked at a car wash in my teens in the late 70s. I was the guy that put the cars on the rack. These Pacers were so cavernous inside, in fact I racall a commercial for them where they drove a smaller car inside of one to show how big it was. AMC always made vehicles that were kind of different.
In the early 90s we pulled into a 7-11. There was a pacer there and something didnt look quite right. The tint in the back was very dark. When you looked through the windshield towards the back, there was a plexiglass panel behind the back seat. The owner waljed out and he opened the hatch. There sat an Oldsmobile 455 with twin turbos on a Toronado transaxle!!!🎉🎉. I really wanted to ask why but, well. Why not!
When I was in high school auto shop class the teacher wanted to take a pacer and make it a 4x4, paint it silver, mirror out the windows with an American flag on the sides and name it earth one. Instead we took a 68 Chevy 3/4 ton, shortened the frame and put a 65 El Camino on it. This was in 1981-82. I used to see it driving around town every once in a while about 10 years ago.
When I was a kid my mom had a AMC Pacer the thing looked like fish tank on wheels. But got awesomegas mileage. You guys are hilarious do a burn out n lose a wheel laughed my rear off. Oh definitely LS in the fish tank With two hair dryers. Its a must 😂
I had one of those that I paid 500 dollars for it was in mint condition and ran like a top. Until one time down in Colorado Springs something snapped in the transmission. It never ran for me again. But I had fun with that little car.
I remember the advertisements back in the day . They had full body panels and during the commercials and then pulled them off showing it as a compact car , O the good old days. Good find BOSS . I HAVE SOMETHING FOR YOU AND AS SOON AS I FIND IT IM SENDING IT TO YOU.
My dad drove one, gas mileage was great back in he 80’s and he was old enough he didn’t care what people thought. Drove it till the fenders rusted off, have fun be safe
Fun facts measure the length of both doors . Right side door is a few inches longer . To give passengers more room to get in and out . And the reason it had their straight six was because they were going to use a 4 cul. engine supplied by Renault of France Can you see that car with a 4 banger ? AMC found out the hard way - that didn't work ! Their six was a last minute replacement . People who had them new ( like my aunt ) loved them . Have fun! Party on !
Awesome choice Demri ! Reminding me of the hilarious things that happened in my younger days . You guys are so fun with old junkers like this AMC. Thats the best burnout I ever saw Roberto... MAAADD! Look at your speedo LOL. Hillbilly rules in these conditions fixing up the Pacer. Robby is even better!! Demri leaning all over you bore scoping your ears. I laughed so much my throat is aching. Thanks so much guys!
It definitely needs painted like the Mirthmobile!
Need to paint it as a tribute car!! EXCEPT BLUE WITH FLAMES PAINT IT PINK WITH FLAMES JUST FOR THE BOSS!!
I was going to be disappointed if somebody had not suggested give it to Wayne’s world paint job
@alaskinmud also you can't forget the licorice dispensor mounted on the ceiling along with a cassette of with the famous queen song bohemian rhapsody on it

Thank you for showing "The Boss" again! Demri is VERY photogenic, highly entertaining, and has a wicked sense of humor.
no kidding pal, freaking gorgeous

haha, deja dory or the blue explorey......better names
Awesome video. I laughed along with you. I agree with the 4.6 stroker idea.

PS. I did hear of a guy in the area that gutted a Pacer for his backyard terrarium.
that looks like the one I owned back in the day! the cat converter melted the carpet and glowed red whenever I drove it!
Just found your channel through Cleetus. As soon as you said 'Wayne's World car' I subscribed.
Don't forget the licorice dispenser !
They said you could park a ford pinto in side the pacer,no kidding, they advertise it that way crazy 70s folks, what dey all smokin on? Garth!!!
Pinky and the Robbynator….. have fun … so great
You commented on the size of doors on the pacer. Did you notice they are different lengths?
Can every Wednesday be a Demri video from now on? She has truly come out of her shell and adds so much to the channel.
This fan would love to see it cherry 🍒
The LS and twin turbo sounds fun, I hope you paint it the original color and make it a fun sleeper. 😁
Our kids had one. 3 Sox on the floor. I became a expert clutch replacement tech. Tranny was aluminum. I'd set it on my chest while installing the clutch. The guy in Marker has a new project car.
Luv it. Its a classic. Maybe some small issues, what can go wrong?
I worked at a car wash in my teens in the late 70s. I was the guy that put the cars on the rack. These Pacers were so cavernous inside, in fact I racall a commercial for them where they drove a smaller car inside of one to show how big it was. AMC always made vehicles that were kind of different.
This video's an instant classic... Good job everyone! Cheers from Vermont!
Why not!
Pacers and gremlins are my favorites. I've had a few, and they never fail to make me smile. Awesome purchase by the boss.
That was a hoot!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I vote for a turbo on the str8 6. Unique car, unique drivetrain.
It's an AMC, turbo and cam existing motor, Alan Green Hornet
A fellow where we lived two years ago had a Pacer that was in beautiful shape and had a HEMI in it.
NO on a burn out car. You cannot replace those rear fenders when you blow the tires. They are cool rear fenders.
My first car was a hand me down from my Mom. A 1975 Red Pacer X. I loved that car.
This may be my favorite video of ALL your videos Robby! Just pure joy. This needs to be a T-shirt.
Stick the body on a 4x4 Chasey. The wheel base looks like it would work.
Fun facts measure the length of both doors . Right side door is a few inches longer . To give passengers more room to get in and out . And the reason it had their straight six was because they were going to use a 4 cul. engine supplied by Renault of France
Can you see that car with a 4 banger ?
I had a canary yellow, 1988 Pacer Wagon... Great cars. Lol
