- Tussar silk is a popular type of ‘ahimsa silk’ or ‘non-violent silk’. India is the world’s second largest producer of Tussar silk. Much of the silk and its extraction is tended to by tribal communities and forms a major part of their livelihood.

Tussar needs more marketing locally as well as internationally, Like Benarasi.
Interesting, as a longtime vegan I wasn't aware of this, and it is acutally something I would support. I wonder if ahimsa silk guqin strings exist. If anybody knows, please let me know!
I personally like the look and texture of tussar silk. Happy to know it is Ahimsa Silk.
We must prioritize wearing clothes made up of natural fibres.. They are not only more comfortable but also create far less pollution than those polyester junk....

Mulberry silk
Eri silk
Tasar silk
Muga silk

Tussar silk should be promoted in India and the West as cruelty-free silk. In Hinduism only Tussar silk products and other cruelty free clothes have been advised to be worn durin ceremonies.
No , Only Muga Silk is adviced.
The same is used in Kanchipuram Sarees and all Those Royal Sarees and all.
Especially we Indians of South love the Original Silk .
And nothing can replace the Original Muga Silk...

@aadithyanc.k whatever silk maybe. Back then moths were not killed. Mughal rule and British rule has mass production. So mass killing of moths.

Reality of Ahimsa Silk in Tasar sericulture means, when the Tasar Silk moths emerged out from the cocoons, the left over silk cocoon shell will be used to make spun silk or reeling silk. In this process, after the metamorphosis of silkworm pupae as moth the tasar silk moth will come out from the cocoon and the empty and opened up tasar silk cocoons will be used for making tasar spun silk, which is also called AHIMSA SILK. However, for continuous tasar silk filament, the tasar cocoons. will be coocked along with the pupae and used for reeling purpose, in which the pupae is killed. This category of tasar silk will not come under Ahimsa Silk.
India will be India ! We were non -violent and will continue to be a non -violent economy.
May this noble idea appeal to the rest of the globe :)

No, pupa is still inside while boiling in other silks, here in tussar silk, cocoons are boiled only after moths have emerged from them that's why it's called ahimsa silk.
