  • What method are you using to confirm the strength of different anchors you are using? How do you confirm they are installed properly? AVDs can verify the strength of many structural anchors.

I’m afraid to test 3/4” drop in anchor to 5000lbs because it’s in concrete. How does one test that type of anchor without pushing the substrate to its limit? And if it’s tested to full capacity at 5k lbs would it weaken the anchor point? Is there a difference between slowly adjusting the test pressure with the veri 5000 and a shockload at the same weight? Thanks for the demonstration.

Tui kind of a lot to unpack there but I’ll do my best in a few comments.
5,000 lbs. is for non- certified anchors. For a certified anchor you would test the anchor 3,600 lbs. since that is the 2/1 safety factor of a full body harness. Other safety factor can also be 1,800 lbs. for lanyards or 2,700 lbs. for SRL (self-retracting lifelines)

Tui After each pull test you have to inspect the anchor for deformities. If there are deformities you would take the anchor point out of service. The strength of the anchor says 5,000 lbs., but most anchors are stronger than what they say they can hold.

Tui Yes, there is a difference between a static load (Veri5000) and a shock load from a fall. The static load that you would put on the anchor during the anchor test is a nice easy pull and a shock load is a sharp impact on the anchor.
      Thanks For Watching!

Thanks boss. Honolulu has the fourth most high rises in the country and it looks like the new OSHA standard has opened up the opportunity to use the pull tester. How can I get one?
