    That alfalfa really did great!!!
Nice thing about alfalfa, it roots deep!! Grass doesn't. So that bottom ground worked very well this year! Should do even better in a normal year.
The triticale really looked good too!!
Hard decisions to make, many haven't had a chance in some parts of the country. We usually sell most of the calves in the fall, frees up barn space and a lot of feed. If we have a cold Winter, we will be buying hay..
Best of luck, praying for rain...
Weather guessers are rarely right... But ya, they haven't had anything to do for a few months.. other than tell us it's going to be HOT. 106 here last I looked 😵

Make the best of a bad situation is all you can do. And a lot of people are in the same boat. We started out wet, then it turned dry and hot, then a few weeks ago it started raining, still hot but we have moisture. Keep your chin up and push on!

Wise words my friend. Always try to act before you have to react and things will usually work out.

Sorry you’re having to deal with drought. Wow 13 bales per acre last year, that’s a shame this year. Beautiful country. Hope you get some rain.

A different kind of year for sure. The hard part is finding enough grass for the cows but we're making it work. July, August, and most of September seldom have meaningful rainfall but by mid-October we should be into some moisture hopefully. Thanks for watching.

My heart breaks to see the state of many parts of the world, whatever the reason, it is a disaster that only the strong can tolerate. My thoughts are as always , with all farmers and I am in awe at you determination and hope for the future. May your God bless you. So different here i France, three cuts of Alfalfa from one pasture, a very wet time, As you say, it will turn again.

Thank you for the kind words. Drought is part of life on the farm. Everything runs in cycles. This year is the driest of my career but I have also seen rainfall double the norm. Don’t no where we are headed but I’m looking forward to the ride.

Thanks Ed, we've had some challenges but we are so much better off than some areas it's hard to complain.

@@lifebehindacow5999 definitely much better than many!! I've heard of some pretty good sized herds all but sold off.. some all gone. 😪

Yep and it’s better to sell before you have to. Good year to clean up the older cows and anything that causes problems.

I let out an audible groan when I saw that opening shot. Yikes. Alfalfa looks great, hope the combine found something.

The winter wheat was all on summer fallow and did alright maybe 30% below normal. Not bad for a dry year. Spring wheat was about a third of normal and all the barley was abysmal. Fortunately we didn't plant a lot this spring. Finding enough feed for the cows is the challenge but we'll get there. 😎

Only thing to say is damn. I have been wondering how bad it was out there. Why be an underachiever 😉😢🙂. My thoughts are with you. When I faced similar, I sold cows early and often.

    • @lifebehindacow5999
      @lifebehindacow5999  3 ปีที่แล้ว

Put together a plan early and adjust when needed. If cows need to be sold take the cash and rebuild later. I’m sure glad l’m here instead of the Dakotas or Montana. Lots of places worse than here.

@@lifebehindacow5999 The valley, humidity, and planning 👍🏻. Try not to back into a corner 🤔😉. The drought here became three wet years.

Hi there sorry I missed this comment earlier. Yes it has been a tough year for hay and pasture as well. Hope all is well up in Canada. Looking forward to fall when I can catch up on everyone's videos. looks like you have had a full summer.
