This is all accurate. I lived in Korea for two and a half years. I dated a lot there. More than I thought I’d be able to. The options are pretty vast. “Large” enough foreigner community of mostly English teachers and entrepreneurs. Tons of American GIs scattered across the multiple basis. And a large African community of young Textile exporters. Everything she said is accurate for not just Korean men when talking to Black Americans/Canadians, but also for the GIs and the Africans. It's funny about the burn bright thing regarding dating because that is also at least from african (specifically my home country) dating. You like each other, you spend time, there's no time wasting or gaming, you are together and if it lasts great lol. I actually prefer that, i was confused initially trying to date in the US, where it seems more gamey, the guys definitely also wanted to move fast (guess fast moving is a universal male thing?) but definitely not fast regarding relationships, just physical.

I'm American and I do burn-bright dating. Most of my relationships started within no more than three weeks of meeting. I've never had a slow-burn relationship. The closest thing would be if we weren't really keeping in touch after a date or two but came back together later vs. consistently dating for months before locking in. I'm not a huge fan of constant texting, but I could deal with it if I knew it was a cultural thing.

I honestly believe a lot of the stereotypes about black women that SK men prescribed to came from the importing of Hip Hop culture to SK. My Dad was stationed there in the late 1990s well into the early 2000s and a lot of the guys where into Hip Hop, its unfortunate that the way black women were portrayed or the way black female rappers portrayed themselves in those music videos and the lyrics heavily influenced SK men's perception of all black women. I saw the shift happen at first the boys would barely talk to foreign girls, and when they did they were curious but respectful, the colorism wasn't even that bad yet because even the Korean stars back then had natural golden skin tones, but the Hallyu Wave changed everything and not for the better IMHO.

@@freesia2252 For reference I'm an 80s baby, army brat who grew up in the 80s 90s early 2k, when we came to SK the music scene was from folk, Mando Pop to contemporary pop. True American pop music and hip hop came in the 90s and the SK government got so bent out of shape about the unregulated hypersexual western entertainment content being imported they created strict rules about content in the late 90s early 2k. Entertainment artist in K RNB and K Hip hop where copying and pasting black music and culture and the government weren't having it. There was a Group called SweeT that was a rip off of TLC, but they were mad talented just chaotic and poorly managed. It's wayyyyy more watered down now, but to see SK boys go from this GAP aesthetic to Hood down to the corn rows, baggy pants and fake gold chains was an FN spectacle to behold. To have classmates who were normal in middle school, then in highschool start approaching you sideways with yo yo ma I had to constantly check them. Also before the entertainment wave, there were two types of black people to Koreans, Dark meant you were From Africa, light skinned meant you were from the US or Europe, unless you were an entertainment superstar, then definitely were from the US. What's weird was like Micheal Jordan was hugely popular and obviously Dark skinned, but their brains seemed unable to make the connection that American black people came in all colors. For instance Because I am very fair black woman but often wore my hair cornrows cause the humidity was nuts there, they still didn't consider me as black. Colorism has existed in Asia free of African influence for millennia. Their colorism is based in classism. Poor people where tan laborers who worked in the sun, pale people where rich nobles who never left the shade.

Media representation and close-mindedness of Korean people due to lack of diversity in the country lead to these unshakeable beliefs in stereotypes. Black female rappers are probably one of the most well known forms of media of us and it doesn’t necessarily suck, what sucks is that it’s the only real form that gets traction. What also sucks is that simple-minded individuals exist that take everything at surface level. Most Asian dominated countries (China, Korea, and more) just can’t find it within themselves to understand that what they see online may not represent a whole demographic of people (shocking, right?). It seems like a very easy to understand concept but they just can’t grasp it.

They need to understand everywhere they go they will have different cultures, in terms of everything. They need to learn, adopt, if don't like move on.. by complaining that they are not behaving like US will only create problems for you. Simple is that. If you going to a new country, learn their culture, try to understand how things go around there.. and maybe then you will get little less culture shock.

Have any of you seen the Korean reality show "The Return of Superman"? Most of the couples featured are Korean, but you'll often spot cute kids from international couples in many episodes. Some of these kids have become pretty popular, even popping up on the show for multiple seasons and doing TV commercials. A parent of these kids is always either white or Japanese.
Actually, it's not rare to see Korean men from middle-class or higher backgrounds married to white women, especially from developed countries, or to Japanese women (and sometimes Chinese). For your information, the wife of the first president in South Korea is a white woman from Austria. While dating a Korean guy as a black woman might not be unusual, you can hardly see marriages between Korean men and black women in Korea. I won't delve into the reasons or any biases behind this. It's just an observation I've made.

then sir, you wouldn't want to visit the whole east, southeast, and south asia.. I'm indonesian and white people are looked very highly here (like many think white people are above them and higher than them and sh*t) and I'm always pissed because of that to be honest, I see every race on earth as human of the same level, cuz God created us equally (as human! the same species) and he sees us no differently (at least the religious side in me says that)

That is true, sadly, in all Asian nations. Colourism is very much still a thing.

@@Boymanjusri I'm curious as to what you're calling mist white. Also, if they were mist white how would their be colourism?
