One of the greatest of the last 20 years. His name is deservedly in the highest echelons of the Super League era. For me, his lasting legacy is the dignity and patience he showed waiting in the wings behind Keiron Cunningham, combined with the bravery in stepping into such big shoes. The expectations on him were immense. Imagine the pressure when your job is to follow the guy who they built a statue outside the stadium for! And yet, here he is, breaking the record number of appearances. Mere mortals would have crumbled under that pressure, but it takes a man like James Roby to not only absorb it, but to thrive under it. And yet, like most rugby league players, he is modest, humble and self-deprecating. A true ambassador for the game, that if you wanted to personify Super League, you would picture James Roby: indefatigable determination, humbling bravery, unimaginable stamina, superior strength and skill, but most of all, a fundamental humility. James Roby: eternally synonymous with the essence of rugby league.
Wakefield Fan but nothing but credit for this guy. Absolute war horse and deserves all and any accolades he has and gets in the future. Well done on a great career and been an inspiration and role model to players all over the world 👏🏻👏🏻
He makes you so proud to be a St Helens fan very emotional watching that. Thanks Robes for a great 19 yrs service. A New Statue will go up outside the Stadium I'm sure.
An absoloutely immense talent of a player, since the first day he pulled on the red vee back in 2004! We have all been blessed to witness Roby's talents on a SL pitch!
This guy shows you can be quiet and unassuming and be a great player, if anything it's the quiet ones you've got to look out for I'd say! Great interview 👍
How do you know he wasn't offered a deal to play in the NRL? If you genuinely believe he isn't one of the great Super Lge players I assume you have bias against St.Helens. And i support rugby lge btw,the team i support is irrelevant.
When anyone thinks of what rugby league is about personally, I just picture james Roby relentless ruthlessness toughest northern. He is Mr rugby league he played the game the way it should be played they won't be another one like him.

Proud to say I went to all those 5 consecutive Grand Final losses. Sad at the time but Leeds had their own set of champion players
Wires fan, but love Roby, great player, comes across as a sound bloke
Wow, just saw him on Foxtel, absolute Legend.

He actually spells it 'Barry' and he doesn't know where the 'Barrie' spelling came from. Honestly
Great player but when he won the
Man of Steel years ago that was a joke. Trent Barrett was by far the outstanding player that season
