  • We are a small family dairy farm in Central MN. We just recently installed a milking robot in our barn. It has been a great addition to the farm! Watch to see the Delaval VMS 300 in action.

Does the machine identify or signal when an animal has the initial signs of mastitis? Does it strip the teat when mastitis is present?

The robot tracks conductivity in each quarter every milking and flag it if it jumps up from one milking to the next it also rates the cow as a whole they call that the MDI and 1 to 1.3 would be that 0 to 150 scc and when you get to a 2.2 and over the scc would be a million + and when the MDI is 2.2 or above THE ROBOT will dump the milk you can set the threshold up or down if you want. The ROBOT doesn't strip the cow if it has mastitis you could set the wash cup to wash longer on just that cow cause it does stip milk while its washing her for milking normally when they get bad we take them off the robot and treat them and milk them in a bucket we also milk our fresh cow in the bucket to the reason for that is so we can milk more cows through the ROBOT cause when milking fresh and treated cows the robot has to stop and wash to insure that no contaminated milk ends up in the tank and it takes about 10 mins for that wash time we would rather be milking cows that could be going in the tank

Is the VMS 300 much better than the DeLaval Classic VMS ???

I feel it is attached time is faster because of the new camera and it's easier to work on I looked at both thinking I could save some money by finding a used classic but after seeing them both the 300 was the only choice for me

Do have to map all new cows or just fresh heifers

With the 300 you don't have to map any cows or fresh heifers it auto teaches itself and saves the info after each time the cow is milked and uses that info for the next milking

how long would this machine last? cost?

    • @weyerdairy7881

They say at least 10 years as far as a price the robot end was around 250000 plus the construction cost to retro fit the robot into the barn

Ours are 7 years old now and their a boumatic one and they were the first robots in England and their getting worn out pretty bad and the parts are getting hard to fine, we can upgrade the arm which we will have to do at some point as that is what gives 90% of the problems. They say they last 10 years because they have to keep making parts for them for 10 years after production and after that they just forgot about you

@@DairyFarmer-uc8eq did they pay for themselfs?

@@dogwoodish erm yes and no depends how well they behaved, we’ve had repair costs costing thousands like a new hydraulic system and some control boxes, our ones you can milk manually meaning it’s easier to milk feesh calves and difficult cows so that takes time so im not to sure tbh
