She had an all-stars redemption arc in the span of one season. Her being the jury foreman at the returning queens' ep was what clinched her arc for me.
@@belakboy according to the cast Versex is the life off camera. Khiana says in an interview that they should start like a big brother where they're monitored 24/7 so that the people knew what going-on in the set, she's kinda joking 😅
The main reason why Philippines will always be the best version of Drag Race is because Filipinos in general have the culture and personality to bring the franchise up, the casts are always full of bright and showy queens because that's how Filipinos are. I'm a Latino, Filipinos remind me so much of the huge personalities I see in my country (Venezuela) and continent, and just themselves as individuals have the power to light up the screen, which is something that none of the other franchises have, they just don't have the unique and protagonistic personalities that Filipinos have, they are STARS.
Even though Versex did contribute to Khianna’s storyline, Versex did have a storyline of her own. From og villain, to being humbled to what should be her specialty, getting a humble elimination, and getting miss congeniality by being kind to the eliminated queens. I think Versex is one of the most iconic Porkchop in Drag Race.
I love that Drag Race Philippines got so much love from the international community. Because I can tell you, as someone from the Philippines. It had so much impact, even to the culture of everyday people its heart and humor speaks so much about our culture. I even hear iconic phrases used in the show being used in the street or at schools or even during competitions to reference the show. It was truly made for the Filipino people but I’m also glad it has also showed the international audience the Philippine culture. Like what Marina said, we don’t get this much opportunity to be seen on an international level. So when we do, we support them all the way, known very well as Filipino Pride.
Truuu, like when my classmate said randomly during a conversation "medyo naguluhan ako nak" and i literally look at them and stare at their soul cause i know thats a drag race ph reference but all of them didnt know it was a line from the show
wait angel’s finale song the one that goes “A ang sarap sarap…” i hear it always in the streets and one time i was eating at a restaurant and there was this random group of kids singing it i was like woah, the impact…
Philippines, France, Espana all fell like they are produced mainly for the audience of their country, and this is why they are so sucessful (even if Espana got hit HARD with the season 3 curse). i'm French and i want to watch something relevant to the pop culture of my country and i don't care if other people (mostly americans let's be real) don't get the references and are annoyed by it. And i will always prefer to get seasons experiencing (even when it doesn't work as well) than predictable seasons !
Also y'all don't talk about how poetic it was that the one who passed on the Miss Congeniality title to Versex was Hana Beshie, a CDO queen, and the drag sister of Khianna
Baby let me tell you this, Angel is famous in my school like I'm shock that the ABC song is trending during the finale week, i will just randomly hear students especially first years sing "A-ang sarap-sarap B-ng aking balat~" out of nowhere like literally. And it's so good to hear that drag race Philippines is getting it's flowers here in the Philippines and also international, i just love it!
17th! ❤️ The showrunners and the queens created magic this season. Everything from the personalities, stories, challenges, runaways, fights and emotional moments was top tier drag race. I think you hit the nail best concluding with how unique and true to its culture PH alwyas feels because it creates this engaging experience for the viewers even outside the Philippines, which for some reason other seasons feel the need to cater to the American/global standards more. Thanks Matthew. You were so missed. What a comeback!
You also have to give it to the PH fandom promoting the hell out of everything that involved the season, like even if i wasnt really following it, i would get so many tweets/tiktoks on my feed about it, which had almost always 500k+ views or sum, so kudos to them as well. Your opinion about DRPH’s inherent ability to experiment goes down to the camera shot of Mama Pao saying the ending spiel of her introduction. The camera work is real Filipino. HAHAHAH
I didn’t watch the first two seasons of Philippines, because I watch only seasons in English and Spanish (tried Holland, Italy and Thailand but unsuccessfully). I decided to give a chance to Philippines 3 because I was bored at the time, and what a pleasant surprise was it. Definitely my favourite season of the year.😮

Hello from Aotearoa New Zealand! Thank you so much for yuor videos. I love hearing about the international seasons of drag race and really appreciate your insight and infectious passion for these shows! Something you said in this video really struck a chord with me regarding the Down Under seasons and it's something I don't think many people understand. So , please forgive me for this tangent. You said that Phillippines - and international franchises in general - seem to be their best when they are delineating from a American format and become something whollly therir own. Thsi is where Down Under fails, I believe. Down Under is, I think, the only franchise which has two countries competing. And yes, while New Zealand is often lumped in with Australia, we aare two very different, uniquely-keyed cultures. I, personally, find it very difficult to watch the episodes because Kiwi culture is often usurped by Aussie ones and some of the references are so deep in Aussie lore that I don't understand them. Australia's indigenous country was walked their lands for over 40,000 years. Aotearoa's first peoples arrived in 1350. This wasn't even the Māori, it was the Mori Ori, so we are a very young country. Having 40,000 years of difference in our cultures is huge and something no other franchise has to deal with. Also, Australia is essentially three hours away from Aotearoa. Australia has a population five times greater than Aotearoa, yet the show is filmed in Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland. Kiwis are the underdogs on their home turf. Now, we also have to factor in access to resources. Australia has their own Amazon stores. Aotearoa does not. Therefore, just importing outfits costs huge amounts of shipping and import taxes. Not to mention how expensive tailors and seamstresses are. Recently I had a zip replaced in a dress. It wasn't torn or anything, just the metal tab had broken off. The replacement cost me NZD50. And when I worked in menswear a decade ago, just a hemming for trousers/jeans ran between NZD30-55. So, Kiwi queens have a smaller community, a smaller pool of resources and a dearth of eons between our culture and than of indigenous Australia. No wonder the series feels clunky and out of sorts most of the time. So it sort of ends up like trying to use silicone lube on a silicone toy then saying 'You know what this needs? Peanut butt.' It ends up being a tacky, nutty mess. I do not speak of the queens, of course. The queens are amazingly talented but the production of the show has really let them down. In my opinion, which shouldn't be taken with just a grain of salt but the understanding I am salty in general and this baerly touches on so many other issues that Down Under has. Sorry again for this tangent. I just love your work and this thoughtslide was driving me into, well, a tacky nutty mess.
that "get it off my screen" curse got passed on to global allstars 1. kind of good cause that means it can only go up from there. season 3 had a 12th queen that dropped out after the promos were done (they film the promos before the season, which is good so poeple don't have to lie about their placements or how they'll do). i don't know the reason but people know who the 12th one was. also i think this is one of those few shows where you actually remember the people's names. other seasons, it's hard for me to remember people's names.
I have to say that the "black face" rote on Katkat (CKK) is totally out of context. Why? There is NO black face culture in the Philippines. We do not have a history of slavery on our indigenous tribes who are of darker skin tone (Aetas). They were mostly left by themselves by the countries who colonized us. People who were enslaved were Filipinos of Chinese and Malay descent who, if generalization should be used, are "yellow" and "brown" skin tones. We actually have events called Ati-atihan (becoming Aeta) where people paint themselves black, to celebrate our indigenous Aeta tribes and how they embraced Catholicism. I think it is very unfair to force other cultures to put MALICE in an act that they, as a culture, have never experienced. Instead of forcing others to see a benign act as malicious, people should research and respect other people's culture regardless of whoever is the bigger demographic.
This is everythinggg. As a Filipino, the love I have for DRPH is deeper compared to that of other iterations because it is the one franchise I can see myself reflected in. One way or another, I can see myself in these queens, whether that be their humor, their struggles, or the way they were brought up. It's what makes it so special for us Filipinos. You make a great point in that by DRPH being authentic to its Filipino identity, and not fully caring how that might translate to international audiences, it shows itself as extremely genuine. And that, in turn, draws in the international audience who might be looking for authenticity and genuineness in a Drag Race franchise. Thanks for this! What a great watch! I, for one, would wait for your reactions on titkok and your tweets while the season was airing. Looking forward to more of your videos!
this whole season was just top TIER! literally some of the best drag seasons happened/happening this year (PH3, UK6, US16, ES4, etc) an incredible cast and an even more undeniable top 4 + winner! I fully see Khianna, Yudipota, Angel, Myx and John coming back for an all stars!!! edit: maxie will STOMP on an all-winners season
Drag Race Philippines is TOP TIER!!! My bf is Filipino so we’ve been excited and watching since season 1 and have loved every second. Every season just gets better and better. And Mama Pao is hands down my favorite host of any franchise, she cracks me up every episode and you can feel the love she has for the contestants.
idk DRPH3 just felt like coming home after a long day. it felt like i know these queens and we kiki'd since grade school. there was so much love and warmth. you couldnt help but root for everybody!
There was a twelfth queen who dropped out literally so close to production. She's going around not talking about being that twelfth queen but her wardrobe gives hints since she has so many dresses that match the prompts..
Very minor, but the word "salvage" in the Philippines has a whole different contextual meaning. I burst out laughing, when you said it needs salvaging 😭😭🤣🤣🤣
@@belakboy Salvage in Filipino English is a bit different... it refers to retrieved body or parts of a body that is a victim of extra judicial killing or killed by someone in authority . in from 70's - late 90's Salvaged Victims are often found in outskirts of cities , mountain ravine etc who are often related to drug trade or rebels. because of the quirk of the filipino language not particularly tagalog but really more filipino the shortest term in Tag-lish or Eng-alog is Na Salvage and it stuck . so in filipino english it means a dead body of a victim heheheheh
Good points Matthew. This season got a good cast. Aside from the fact we speak good English most of the them are really charismatic. We got the talent since most of us can sing or dance. This was the seasons strength. If you could understand Filipino Humor and pop culture you’ll love the girls more! Particularly the nuances of Angel, Kianna and John. Also Mama Pao’s last name is pronounced as Bal-yeah-esterow in American English. The lack in lighting and good audio in the show makes up for the talents and personality of the queens that’s why they were so entertaining and refreshing to watch. Try to visit Manila and see them perform live! You’ll be surprise there are much more talented queens who are waiting for the rest of the world to see!
finally back! And yes I’m so looking forward to the videos coming out in the near future (global all stars, ranking the seasons, 😊maybe your curse video for this year, etc.)
Drag race PH was the most successful franchise this year until Drag Race UK 6 aired!! Still so happy for drag race ph and uk. Had so much laugh than all the other franchises combined watching their seasons this year.
The reason why Drag Race Philippines feels authentic is that it caters specifically to Filipino audiences. It’s now up to international viewers to decide whether they’ll love it or not, but DRPH will remain true to itself for the Filipino people. We will not adjust to Western standards, instead, we will showcase the essence of Filipino humor, Filipino fantasies, and drag. To every international viewer, it’s up to you to either love it or hate it. If you love it, thank you so much for embracing our culture and traditions. If you hate it, we still thank you for giving us your time-at least we’ve shown you what it’s like to be Filipino. There are two types of Filipino humor: 1. Kanal humor (ditch/dirty/street humor) 2. Aircon humor (air-conditioned/rich kids’ humor) Ask or observe a Filipino who grew up in the Philippines to understand these types of humor, and you’ll notice the difference. However, be mindful that some Filipinos who grew up in the Philippines but come from wealthy backgrounds may still have aircon humor. Avoid asking a Filipino who grew up in other countries, as their humor will likely default to aircon humor. While aircon humor still holds its own authenticity, it often lacks the rawness of kanal humor. If I may say so, I feel that Thailand's drag scene has hit rock bottom in terms of everything including performance, at least from my perspective. I had high expectations because I’ve read and heard a lot about how excellent drag in Thailand is supposed to be-boasting more resources, talent, and creativity than the Philippines. However, after watching some episodes from their seasons, I can’t help but feel disappointed. It seems that some people are blind to the true meaning of excellence. Sorry I'm just being honest.
The khianna storyline wasn't the only one of ver's storyline. She had this underlying storyline of a mean catty villain who is hypocritical and insecure but then later is shown to have a sweeter, unserious kind of side (and win miss congeniality lmaooo) Basically a petite plane jane storyline condensed with 3 episodes.
First out as Miss Congeniality is iconic. Giving Vangie moment for VerSex. Cant get over from this DR franchise. I watched it again even after the season and despite having new season from other franchise. DRPHS3 set a very high standard now for all franchises.
The reason why Ver got the Miss Congeniality, because off cam she lend/gifted garments off her own closet to each of the queens. She left some of her stuff so the other queens can use it.
Ok Maxie getting up to fight J Quinn and Myx was EVERYTHING. Also if you would have told me the first possible elimination was going to be a double save, on paper I’d be like that’s not a great idea. In practice in the Philippines? I WENT UP WHEN ANGEL WAS SAVED IT WAS PERFECT AND A STELLAR DECISION. This wasn’t just a good season of Philippines. It was a STELLAR and is objectively one of the best seasons ever!
The best season of the year and one of the best seasons ever! And we've had some great seasons this year: USA, Mexico, UK, Spain... And Down Under and Canada are being good so far.
22:32 in season 1 of drph, i think that the judges got a lot of backlash by the filipino community because of their some comments where they would have to adjust to the international audience. I think that in a way, due to the feedback, the queens are now more authentic and look more comfortable when presentating themselves.
What I think why DRPH season 3 is the best drag race ever is the SNATCH GAME! That was sooooo goood! I really wish when snatch game was the challenge, I want every queens to volley jokes to rupaul as well as each other with funny shades but no malice.
Yes, it’s Eken. She actually has all of her outfits already made so she just wears them on performances now, further confirming her backing out. And it’s surprising because Eken is very close with the past winners.
To your point about it ujff. being unapologetically Filipino, I super agree. Look at their mini challenges. It's almost always something so cultural, watchers from other countries usually get baffled. And it's also why Snatch Game episodes were (kind of) poorly received, except for S3 (which can be credited to the cast's talent). DRPH is a love letter for the young, queer Filipinos, and the international recognition is just the cherry on top. (i also want to add that the international fans resonate to DRPH PRECISELY because of this uniqueness. I hope they maintain this for all the seasons to come)
I believe season 3 was is really supposed to be a 12 cast season. But one of the queen backed out nearing into filming. And I think that's the reason why angel got the double shantay.
Canada 3, Down under 3, American 3, Italia 3 and Philippines 3 have all been good and better than other seasons :S But people love to say the season 3 curse :D... Season 2 has a bigger moment of if it's bad the season is delayed or cancelled. :/ Philippines 3 was amazing :D

that "get it off my screen" curse got passed on to global allstars 1. kind of good cause that means it can only go up from there. season 3 had a 12th queen that dropped out after the promos were done (they film the promos before the season, which is good so poeple don't have to lie about their placements or how they'll do). i don't know the reason but people know who the 12th one was. also i think this is one of those few shows where you actually remember the people's names. other seasons, it's hard for me to remember people's names.
I'm still mad at Eve getting sent home on an episode where she wasn't on the worst performer on the worst team!
the 12th queen is Eken an OG Obar girl and she had clothes that matched S3's themes when she performed so ppl put the pieces together
Very well said
Thanks!
Absolutely! Thank YOU
Keep an eye out for Khianna. She’s not only a great drag queen but she also has the kind of humor and charisma that Ru will be obsessed with.
Oh he is BACK!!!
WELL YESSS 🥂
this whole season was just top TIER! literally some of the best drag seasons happened/happening this year (PH3, UK6, US16, ES4, etc)
an incredible cast and an even more undeniable top 4 + winner! I fully see Khianna, Yudipota, Angel, Myx and John coming back for an all stars!!!
edit: maxie will STOMP on an all-winners season
I WOULDVE RATED THIS VIDEO 10/10 IN IMDB! THANK U!!!
You got me teary eyed. Proud to be a Filipino American ❤
DR Ph is the only thing holding my wow subscription tbh
As a Filipino drag race fan. Thank you for appreciating Drag Race Philippines. ❤
I cannot wait for you to review España 4 ✨
idk DRPH3 just felt like coming home after a long day. it felt like i know these queens and we kiki'd since grade school. there was so much love and warmth. you couldnt help but root for everybody!
There was a twelfth queen who dropped out literally so close to production. She's going around not talking about being that twelfth queen but her wardrobe gives hints since she has so many dresses that match the prompts..
omggg who?

Very minor, but the word "salvage" in the Philippines has a whole different contextual meaning. I burst out laughing, when you said it needs salvaging 😭😭🤣🤣🤣
@@randelliest omg what does it mean?? 😭
@@kennethguinto4862Oh my god 😭😭 I had no clue
not a big deal tho, salvage also means killed it, slayed it. @@belakboy
@@belakboyBecause the word salvage also translate in filipino-spanish is salvaje that's why😅
Wow! Glad I found your video. This review is so informative, intellectual, and full of substance. Love it! ♥️
Mabu-hey! 🇵🇭
Always waiting for your reviews.
Your voice is so eargasmic. Looking forward to see your contents on Spotify podcast in the future!
This is really good and informative ❤
Thank you so much! I’m glad you enjoyed it and found it informative!!
YES. YOU’RE BACK!!
finally back! And yes I’m so looking forward to the videos coming out in the near future (global all stars, ranking the seasons, 😊maybe your curse video for this year, etc.)
Omg should I do a belakboy curse of 2024
Drag race PH was the most successful franchise this year until Drag Race UK 6 aired!!
There are two types of Filipino humor:
1. Kanal humor (ditch/dirty/street humor)
2. Aircon humor (air-conditioned/rich kids’ humor)
Ask or observe a Filipino who grew up in the Philippines to understand these types of humor, and you’ll notice the difference.
I just know DRPH All Stars would be jampacked and would create another legendary season.
Belak, it's been 3 months! Now, you're back! YAY!
the lack of a 12th queen is someone backing out last minute.
Who is it 👀
Yuki Ito is her name a pageant queen@@ruthnesskindless
@@JJ-ib9nv nope it was Ekens there is a clue on katkat's post calling "my friend that cancelled last minute".
@@JJ-ib9nv it was Eken. Yuki Ito didnt even auditioned

It would've had a higher IMDB score if everyone understood all the Filipino references 😂
Love the summary and review!
The khianna storyline wasn't the only one of ver's storyline. She had this underlying storyline of a mean catty villain who is hypocritical and insecure but then later is shown to have a sweeter, unserious kind of side (and win miss congeniality lmaooo) Basically a petite plane jane storyline condensed with 3 episodes.
yesss I put a note about that at 15:23
Also she was THE meme queen of the season (besides the obvious angel) with her confessionals outside of her shadiness and that also helped immensely
PHILIPPINES! PHILIPPINES! PHILIPPINES! 🇵🇭
Such a great season and love your videos ❤
First out as Miss Congeniality is iconic. Giving Vangie moment for VerSex. Cant get over from this DR franchise. I watched it again even after the season and despite having new season from other franchise. DRPHS3 set a very high standard now for all franchises.
The reason why Ver got the Miss Congeniality, because off cam she lend/gifted garments off her own closet to each of the queens. She left some of her stuff so the other queens can use it.
we know
Ok Maxie getting up to fight J Quinn and Myx was EVERYTHING.
Rumour has it the 12th queen backed out last second.
The best season of the year and one of the best seasons ever! And we've had some great seasons this year: USA, Mexico, UK, Spain... And Down Under and Canada are being good so far.
Awesome review! So I subscribed! Deserved! 😜
Thank you for the support ❤
22:32 in season 1 of drph, i think that the judges got a lot of backlash by the filipino community because of their some comments where they would have to adjust to the international audience. I think that in a way, due to the feedback, the queens are now more authentic and look more comfortable when presentating themselves.
I love how candor you put your opinion out there.
That Snatch Game also propelled this season.
Versex babe. What an incredible cast. My god.
It was like it filled the void Thailand left behind
What I think why DRPH season 3 is the best drag race ever is the SNATCH GAME! That was sooooo goood! I really wish when snatch game was the challenge, I want every queens to volley jokes to rupaul as well as each other with funny shades but no malice.
7:26 i think it's been confirmed that there was one more queen who backed out of the season before filming
Yes, it’s Eken. She actually has all of her outfits already made so she just wears them on performances now, further confirming her backing out. And it’s surprising because Eken is very close with the past winners.
@@user-kx6fw8ub9gWhat's her IG? so i can see her outfits?
22:25 this is so truee!!! it is a 100x funnier if you guys only understand the humor of it all 😭
To your point about it ujff. being unapologetically Filipino, I super agree.
I hope they maintain this for all the seasons to come)
5:27 alexis p. bevels mention !
Can you do one for Drag Race Thailand?
Mayyyybeee
Drag Race PH 3 broke the curse every episode is so delicious that it makes me crave every week
omg your skin really looks good tho
I always feel like this channel is bigger than it is because of the editing and quality of content
Like what do you mean you're not at 50k?
Thank youuuu - that means so much!
Philippines all star and season 4 is secured!
Now we need a video talking about the Renaissance of Espana 4!
I read that they had more wiggle room for 2non eliminations back to back because the 12th queen couldn't make it to filming
drag race ph 3 probably absorbed the power from all the other franchises' season 3
I believe season 3 was is really supposed to be a 12 cast season. But one of the queen backed out nearing into filming. And I think that's the reason why angel got the double shantay.
Im so happy you came out of hibernation
Maraming Salamat!
Canada 3, Down under 3, American 3, Italia 3 and Philippines 3 have all been good and better than other seasons :S
But people love to say the season 3 curse :D... Season 2 has a bigger moment of if it's bad the season is delayed or cancelled. :/
Philippines 3 was amazing :D
