Great video, thanks a lot. Do you know if the recording could be paused on the device, then continued when choosen to in order to keep several parts of a video on one output file (as I assume each time you stop recording a new file will be created). Also, does it handle 4:3 ratio without streching the output to 16:9 video file ? Thanks again !
I do not know,,, I would expect that the video I graped was interlacing,, so it did do that,,, but if or if not it ignores macrovision,, I do not know.
Congratulations on the video, @MyPlayHouse! I would like to know if the video quality of this UNISHEEN device (UR230A) is similar or superior to other devices used to capture VHS tapes, such as External DVD Recorders (Example: LG Rh397h) or if you have any other suggestions? I've already used the easycap USB external card and I didn't like the quality, some people recommend the Encore internal card (Enltv Fm3), I don't know if this UNISHEEN device (UR230A) is a good purchase, how has your experience been? Thank you very much!
If you get the USB video grabber, up and running they can be okay,,, but I did not get the same quality as on this unit (I have two one have good sound and the other has better picture) But this also just worked! and looking ar the comments on the videos on the USB grabbers,, that is not the case with them,, all sorts of issues.
great :D I have old VHS camera and there is problem with recording but I was thinking about connecting this kind device to output. Record direct to memory card :D
That "New Years" black and white movie used to be shown on Zimbabwe TV (in Africa) every new year's eve in the 80's into the 90s. So not only Europe😁 thank you for the video, I'm about to purchase that gadget but needed to know if it's any good.
mine arrived, pretty good..... worked with usb 128gb stick(don't even know the format; noticed that some of the higher end models that do hdmi support an external hd, could be handy for some).... was getting some weird audio feedback when trying to get audio from my sony handicam, turned out sony is dumb and used a proprietary headphone jack pinout that is not backwards compatible; fix was just use a 3.5mm to rca splitter cable and use 1 audio channel(mono anyway:P) + svideo *** over the years I bought hauppauge colossus, pvr-150, a variety of 2nd hand usb tuners, 3-4 bt848 based cards; had plans to transfer vhs tapes to computer but getting stuff perfect/re-encoding stuff/etc was always a hassle nice to see stuff has come a long way
I was impressed with just how little I had to mess around with this! and it just worked. My camcorder on the other hand,, that had died since last time I messed with this. :-)
@@MyPlayHouse I have exactly the same situation.. My DV handycam 'died', I just watched your video today and I bought this device.. Thank you very much! Greetings from Croatia 👍
I'm thinking of buying one of these devices but the price is a bit high for my liking. Kind of surprised that someone hasn't made a device that you can plug into your phone and it can record from analog sources.
@MyPlayHouse I'm eying the cloner alliance device because I saw a video of a guy in Florida that digitize videotapes and he had the device hooked to a VCR and he tried a back to the future tape and the device recorded it just fine. I'm thinking of getting a small composite video security camera with IR to use on it to make a weird type of camcorder.
VHS has like 240 lines,, so more like 320*240 But Betacam SP Digi. has 720*576 in PAL (That would be found at like TV stations after 1993) We normal people saw it when we got DVD.
average, as found on most torrent sites, movie at 720p is about 2gb~ now a day; that's not to bad(basing off analog cctv, the higher end models could do just under 720p before it went over to relying on digital signals).... there's always a few people who I guess know their stuff and get it to be like half that size for at 1080 but yeah:P
never really went all out with video editing etc, but in high school, around 2k, was using an Abit TV@nywhere tuner card to capture svideo output to make a "music video" using gta 3 and vice city........ I had about 100gb total at the time(uncommon, but most of it was in used:P; this was also just as hd's were doubling in size almost daily it seemed).... I was getting about 1gb per hour for analog footage that wasn't nearly as good(monitor was 800x600, capture quality was more than likely a good bit lower).... to save on space ended up chopping up stuff to the bare minimum(no extra footage:P)
Nice device. Still, it would have been a plus with a touch screen. These days, people are expecting easy pointing, instead of buttoning around in menus.
Great video everything proven people like myself are buying VCR players cleaning tapes vhs movies offline now days everything proven vhs tapes don't lock up at all like a computer does people like myself are fixing broken vhs tapes with Scotch tape it starts playing again with out no problem's
hi please if you are moving video of a betacam sp digi you will need alot better this is ok for home video's the higher the video high the unit or if you are doing for people you will have to get better i have one to test the out put of the decks i am fixing up there is a place for the low cost things never run them down
Well Betacam SP Digi should be 720*576,, just as this box was doing. But it could also do 1080P 19:05 but if more sound tracks are used on the betacam sp digi,,, this is not a good solution. My VCR is kind of creap,,, I am just not willing to use money on a new one,, as I will never use it.
You seems to be a trial-and-error "expert". Not knowing the connectionpoints in front of the vcr are input, not knowing the vcr has to play before you see someting on the tv, not knowing how to put a card,...
Willing to bet with some effort, your "awful" recording can look not too bad at all. It seems with the video playback that you are missing half of the frames, and the capture is de-interlacing with a lazy algorithm of throwing out half the frames. If you care to travel down the path, a time base corrector getting a descent tape player's playback, captured with a $50 USB dongle(great raw video capture, audio only okay - audio capture devices would be even better) to some windows system, unvirtualized. The output could be captured and de-interlaced in OBS easily enough, and encoded in h.265 for space saving. If wanting to do an even better job, different software programs to capture the raw output, de-interlace, upscale and pantone correction optional, then finally re-encode to h.265 can be done.
@@MyPlayHouse well I saw a video online of a demonstration, and it performed very poorly That was a 2.0 version of the device. I read that the 3.0 version doesn't do any better.
Ooooo! Yeah!! That's i didn't expected on your channel. Thank you very much for that!!

Thank You very much! glad you liked the video :-)
Thank you for watching! :-)
thanks for recommendation ive ordered one for a friend as a xmas gift.
This was great! compared to all the issues getting those $6-7 USB things to work,, and it did not work, very well.
Trying to upscale the video from that point would be an interesting experiment
I was thinking that maybe some AI,, could improve the quality,, it could look at many frames and add the details...
@@MyPlayHouse it would make for a very interesting video!
Ach, Miss Sophie. Nice.
Dinner for One its called over here in germany.
"Dinner for One" I could not remember that when I was filming. :-) We made one with zombies..

I did not find that you can do that,, it does start a new fil each time,,, and you have to put those together afterwards.

Yes,, it does not record that. I was afraid of that as well.

I am a bit confused, does it works correctly with 16:9 and 4:3 screen format?
I would think so,, I did not test that :-/ it did have the option to do 1080P.
Can you upload a sample video you recorded off vhs? Something with a moving camera shot.
Sorry,, that is more than I will help you with. 😬
