    Is there a possibility to mesh the same cylinder with additional points on the surface? I'm getting an error when extruding the mesh over the length of the cylinder saying the topology of the connecting surface is not supported on the additional vertex

    Is this method applicable to 2D models also?

      If you mean a 2D cross-sectional model of the pipe, yes. You can just divide the ring, i.e. the cross-section, into four quarter rings and make a uniform mesh.
