Not every cow has bells, but they are used to find the cows in terrain that is not easy to controll. E.g. Mountain or hilly areas. They are not meant to irritate but have function. I know a lot of city people don't like to see them but if you look for a missing cow in a foggy mountain area this stuff helps.

We used Untours and used transportation passes to take day trips. Frutigen & Meiringen were the base towns for my 2 trips. Love your transportation system!
