maybe thats why the story included some weird ahh foot fetish. I dont wanna say its a great artistic and deeper story choice, but it does represent her maybe having a poor history with her mental state and being hypersexual and developing f3ti5h as a result or something. She wanted to feel something beyond pain and wanted to experience the pleasure more since she never got it from other sources. That where the keenk comes from, a place of loneliness and wishing to feel something or just escape and lose herself. Its the unhealthy coping mechanisms she adopts that become mental issues and poor decisions done to herself just wanting something beyond. Maybe all the endigns being bad are like this as well. Not everyone always has a hapoy end, many people end up homeless, jailed for life, dead, etc. jeckas bad endings represent her as one of these sad people who would never be happy or be misfortuned by destiny. Never a good ending, and never able to escape.

No seriously like my likeness for Nicole went down like... 100%. The first ending was genuinely so disgusting of her and any respect I've had of her went down immediately. Like it doesn't sink in that Nicole is a real asshole until she's fucking over one of the only real friends she has for basically NOTHING. Jecka didn't let her in on the cash so Nicole let's Jecka's dad get horny over her feet? What a psycho like that is WAY too low of a blow. Even with Jeffery the way Nicole was treating him made me feel sick, and then somehow Jecka was praising Nicole for "saving her" in this weird little backwards twisted way like no.. Nicole is genuinely a psychopath and she's just as dangerous and disgusting as the pedophiles and predators around her. I love all the Class of 09 games even when there's serious issues because of the humor and dialogue but this one doesn't hit the same, way too dark for me.
I dunno why people thought the first two games were fun. I think people ignored the point of the game, to show the dark side of people in a very clear manner. Nicole literally says she’s a sociopath. Yet people say she’s fun and quirky. Sort of like real life.

Honestly spot on. It's what I feel Life is Strange never addressed with how Chloe is a negative influence but now all of a sudden you're forced to still be by her side anyway. This highlights toxic friendships and it's damaging consequences, and it's done really well.
i think it was a screw up on sbn3's part bc nicole felt uncharacteristically evil in this game. she doesn't not care about Jecka at all. in the first few games she like gets in big trouble with the counselor to let jecka smoke, steals a shirt for jecka, jecka literally lets nicole be homeless and all nicole did was be slightly passive aggressive about it. Nicole cares about Jecka, sbn3 just fucked up here

so i have a lot of mixed opinions about this. i think it’s not like nicole doesn’t care about jecka AT ALL, and they’re also both struggling. nicole has difficulty into putting herself in other people’s shoes and she isn’t even willing to do that, on the other side jecka seems to care about nicole so much that she’s thinking about her most of the time (that might also be because of nicole being the protagonist of the first game but still.) i just think nicole isn’t able to feel anything for anyone and jecka is the closest she will ever get to caring about somebody. that doesn’t change the fact that she’s a shitty friend but jecka isn’t perfect either (although she is a lot better imo)

This feels way darker than Nicole's side of the story, the only real 'good' ending for Jecka is the one where Jeffrey dies. I was expecting an ending where she goes to live with her mom, or finds some other way to escape her horrible dad, but unless she's *sold into slavery* or kills herself she doesn't get away from him. Jecka doesn't really get to be happy, does she?

I remember predicting that it would be way darker. Truth is, from Nicole’s perspective it’s barely worse, but Jecka’s not a sociopath, if she becomes the victim, you feel the full blow of something terrible happening to a normal person. Theory : The reason why Jecka's side is less funny because it is JECKA'S SIDE. Her condition makes her unable to express her feelings to their fullest extent, she cares that Jeka died, but her brain just can’t fully process that jeka dying was bad because she’s as sociopath. She misses Jeka, but she’s fully incapable of feeling sympathy. Also, if she did let out her feelings of pain and sadness, her being a sociopath would amplify those to an outrageous extent. For a sociopath , love is obsession, sadness is depression, and anger is violent. Why do you think every time she gets mad or slightly upset She has a huge outburst? It’s because because she’s a sociopath, it may be self diagnosed, but she diagnosed herself correctly. Why do you think she was mean to Jeka when she said no to her? Not because she hates Jeka, she’s just fully incapable of understanding or caring about Jessica’s feelings because she’s a sociopath. I knew Nicole was fucked up, but you would think she would at least care about jecka's death. Nicole didn't even send jecka a text or anything, like jecka did to her. Jecka can be a good person, and compared to Nicole, she is. She has real potential to be a genuinely good person. I think that why the endings suck extra. However, I'm unsure if Nicole IS correct about being a sociopath since I watched a video dissecting her character and actions to determine whether or not she is a sociopath. And the results? Not 100%.
I wouldn’t say she’s a good parent but compared to Jecka’s dad she’s a saint. ( And we’re talking about a woman who threw her daughter out to live on the streets/ sold and rented her room when she was in prison, basically disowning her / beat her up daily when she got expelled state- wide ) Actually she sounds 10x better than Jecka’s dad, at least it takes state wide expulsion/ prison for her to disown Nicole.
When jecka is sitting there telling the counselor that no one cares about her or how her life is different forever and then the counselor said it won't be, and then jecka said exactly that hit hard. I've gone through similar things to jecka in this ending, and she's not wrong, sadly. Your life is different forever, and people will feel bad for you for like a week, but then they expect you to get over it, and when you dont, you're a crybaby or ooking for attention. And the fact that jecka said things were different for a week but then went back to how everything was before you can tell how lonely jecka actually is and feels, and that's really depressing.

i dont think we can assume she felt zero emotion over the suicide just bc she didnt send a message to her dead best friend. she cant process her emotions, we know that. even when she saves jecka after doing her dirty she doesnt make it a big deal, she just does it. we never see the aftermath of jeckas suicide

The reason jecka left a message was because Nicole asked for help from her before she died “why can you help me.” “I miss you, I’m sorry” I realized this and now I’m crying.
Honestly I’m pretty torn on this game. On one hand, a lot of the darker aspects feel just shoehorned in (the foot fetish shit was a bit much for no reason), but on the other hand maybe the darker aspects make sense since we see this all outside Nicole’s POV. Nicole is a sociopath who is just depressed, bored, greedy, traumatized, and uncaring. In her games it’s played off as just that, doing things to leave boredom behind in such a crazy fucked up world. However, seeing it from Jecka’s POV we see the consequences that has on people who are genuinely human and are not sociopathic to the point of locking themself off from connections or hope. Jecka wants a better life but has no idea how to maneuver all the horrible shit around her and it eats her soul away. We also see Nicole for who she really is and how things aren’t as much as a cruel joke as she sees them and that actions truly have consequence. Now whether Nicole would truly fuck over Jecka to the degree she did in the first ending, I honestly don’t know. It could be Nicole’s POV from the first games influencing our opinion to view her more positively or that the creator just made her more edgy in this game for shock value. Nicole is a petty sociopath capable of much harm, as we’ve seen her do fucked up shit to others, but would she do that to Jecka? The person she views as the closest thing to true friend despite her sociopathic nature? I don’t know. If this game was polished more and the fetish stuff turned down to fit the narrative better, the darker aspects of this game could’ve been played off very well. But it seems the developer just didn’t rly care much and produced the bare minimum. Overall a decent game, but with some very obvious and pointless flaws.

I think the first ending wasn’t all that unrealistic on Nicole’s side, though, since it’s shown in the first game that she does see revenge as an option (they both knew Jecka’s dad liked her and when Nicole wasnt allowed to get in on Jecka’s ”job” it triggered Nicole’s malicious intentions). Although, Maybe it’s not like Nicole to react that strongly to something Jecka does, and I have a hard time beliving she wouldn’t gone such lengths in the first games. Other than that, despite the obvious fetsish- and schock value content, the first ending felt not too unrealistic. Jecka getting into a line of work that only spirals, getting worse and worse, until everything around her falls apart, she doesnt feel like anything but an object anymore and therefore, doesnt see any other way out.
god, getting to see nicole's suicide from jecka's perspective was much more heartbreaking than i thought. i love that this game has more cgs. having a main character that isn't apathetic really does hit different, especially the scenes where jecka's high and gets yelled at and overstimulated. i feel so terribly bad for her, and actually cried at some of the scenes 😭

With the kind of person Jeffery is, he got babied by his mom way too much and then got cut off when he stopped being cute, leaving him searching to fill the feminine void his mother left. Of course, his ideal world is made of living mommy flashlights. His mother (and possible absentee father) did fail him immensely by not preparing him for the world properly. It didn't help that his chosen coping mechanisms made it harder for him to change on his own, and the combination of these circumstances got him murdered by a person equally fucked up from her own broken life. Poor guy never stood a chance anyway, though, this whole franchise is like an edge lords magnum opus.
In Class Of 09, you eventually stop feeling bad about the hell that Nicole goes through because most of it is kinda her fault and she doesn't seem to care about it either. When the protagonist actually has feelings and is put in a much worse environment that's completely out of her control, the game becomes a horror show.
i think it’s more, when the protag has empathy, we’re automatically more inclined to feel more empathy for her, more than we thought we had for nicole. alot of the stuff that happens in this game is stuff nicole would’ve gotten herself into too. literally almost everything. but because nicole is antisocial (which isnt a good thing, because of this it led to more mistreatment because her impassive reactions justified her mistreatment in her abusers eyes), when we see jecka respond with more emotion it seems as bad as it is. like jecka said in the re-up “do you seriously not get how bad this is”.. nicole does she just cant display that properly. in the games nicole gets into alot despite trying ti avoid it. when shes photographed in the locker room, the principal takes the destruction she wasnt even responsible for more seriously than what initially got her there. when she DOES destroy the lab, the photo is still displayed, her mom starts to beat her, and shes regularly harassed at her job.
It’s a game about a sociopath, the whole point of the game is that you were seeing it through the perspective of a sociopath. Someone who is incapable of handling their emotions properly, caring about themselves, and, feeling empathy. That was a huge part of her character and perspective. You think the way that Nicole lives isn’t bad, because Nicole doesn’t see how bad she lives. She sees her abuse as a minor inconvenience. Nicole’s mom literally didn’t give a fuck about her until she was dead/dieing, but she lets her brother live as a failure and put all the responsibility onto Nicole. Her brother is a child predator who she had to grow up with as a child. she moved from place to place losing parental figure after parental figure, friend after friend. it was clear that nobody even started liking her until she was pretty. Her life is shitty, but you don’t see how shitty it is because she treats it like it’s every day. The whole point of the game is understanding someone who doesn’t understand themself. You don’t care because you aren’t her, she doesn’t express her emotions so you don’t try to understand them. Her mind doesn’t work like yours so you think she’s broken. But that’s not how that works. Being a sociopath is your brain shielding you from abuse. Usually from all kinds. Physical, mental, neglect, feeling all alone, unwanted, like a burden. Do any of these ring a bell for you? Because these are all things that went through in game even if she didn’t care, not even to mention the majority of her life that we didn’t get to see. She’s a victim who doesn’t victimize herself, so you don’t see her as a victim.
Idk if related but I realized in the original game when Nicole was shot by the cop and then the cop went and screamed to Jecka it was about his wife (kinda similar to the way Jecka's dads yells bout her ex-wife) and also in a pretty similar tone to the way Jecka's dad screams at her and than she cried the same way when her dad yells, do yall think the cop trigger her trauma?
I'm not sure, the timelines kinda all over the place but I think she was 17 in re-up and she's 18 in flipside-- so the cop screaming would be before the divorce, and before her dad became abusive? not sure I'd have to rewatch re-up to check

real, the therapy scenes made me start to wonder how to picture that shit out of non-moving pngs that only slide across the screen, and it doesn't take much effort for me to do that, but it actually got me thinking about jeckas personality and how to view this shit show.... like ik I'm ranting and nobody cares, but I'm this deep in so like, I feel like without a way to picture jecka crying and talking to people in this game it really just doesn't work for me, I was fine with not doing that for the first two games but this actually just fucking made me either disgusted or made me wonder. but basically, I think this game is way more compact with serious stuff instead of "funny silly" racist jokes so I think it needs more personality for me to view it (this is long as hell and doesn't have any meaning so don't read it. I hate the ending where Jecka ends her life, Nicole is an awful friend in that ending. It makes me HATE how she acted towards her BEST FRIEND. I know she cares about her though but it was messed up. Almost all Jecka’s endings made me cry, she doesn’t deserve everything that happened. 😭😭

I do agree that there's a lot of not needed fetish stuff in this game, but I think that jecka being shirtless makes sense with the comments that she makes about wanting the people at the morgue to basically just objectify her. she wanted to be seen as attractive, even once she was dead. but idk
They had not shown her feet throughout the whole route, very carefully hiding them in every scene it happened. Then the ending comes in, you get to see the feet so many others were paying big money for, then for titillation they show her in a half naked position, almost like a reward for the route. Then they show you she’s dead. Someone might have gotten aroused, and now they’re aroused to a dead person. Immediate punishment. Like how dare you, she’s being telling you she’d rather be a beautiful corpse than ugly but alive so often across all the games. Now it happened. Everyone gets what they want huh? Truly a horrible ending for her.
I feel this was called the flipside not only to imply it was Jecka’s story, but to say this would highlight the discomfort and cold reality of the games that the first two masked with humor. after all, they WERE from Nicole’s perspective
It's weird how drastically different the home start and school start paths are. Seeing the two foot fetish endings and the sex trafficking ending made me think this whole game was just torture porn trying to disguise itself as an edgy commentary on society. It was actually physically painful to see Jecka abused over and over---and for it to be sexualized in the CGs. I love Class of '09s dark, satirical humor...but this? This was too much for me. I know this is a fictional character, but sue me for feeling bad for fer. It felt so out of left field compared to the first installment of '09 and the Re-Up's content. It was so depraved and unhinged in a way I did not expect, and the other games were already pretty high up there. But maybe that was the point---this is Jecka's story. She's not a sociopath like Nicole. She's not going to cope or make the same decisions as her. She's so much more vulnerable to getting exploited and it affecting her much more intensely. We see it happen when Nicole gets shot by the mall cop. Nicole recovers and is still snappy after, but Jecka gets serious PTSD from it and ends up submitting just to not get hit or killed. It doesn't help that she already has a physically and emotionally abusive father (who also is heavily implied to want to fuck her, but doesn't because they're too related...what the fuck). The story goes all out on how situations like sexual favors and just being at the wrong place at the wrong time can escalate without the mindset of Nicole. And the excessive mentions of parental incest (mostly in the form of fetish) also sadly, actually happens. It doesn't receive as much coverage because of how deeply disturbing and fucked up it is. Maybe SBN3 wanted to show this unfiltered reality. I almost did not finish watching how the rest played out, but I was so morbidly curious. I got whiplash when the last two routes were actually...normal? (relative to the usual Class of '09 standard at least). It had that classic C09 humor with a relative balance of humor and darkness. My favorite was Jecka's POV in Nicole's suicide route. It gave us more context to why Jecka was so upset with Nicole for hanging out with loser guys instead of her---She was in a hostage relationship too. I enjoyed the dialogue a lot more, and it didn't lean as heavily on the shock factor as much as the other routes I talked about previously. I love when Jecka asks Ms. Ames what the fuck she actually understands about any of what she's going through. As someone who's had a shitty therapist and family members saying similar things to her and Jecka's dad, that whole conversation hit home. I still have really mixed feelings for this game, but I'm glad I still gave it a chance even though I was extremely uncomfortable for most of it. It's definitely really controversial, but objectively (in my opinion, LOL), it still improved the series' story telling. ...But did the foot fetish routes have to be so long and detailed---the fact that there was even TWO of them?? C'mon now.
I agree w everything u said I wish there were more storylines of just jeckas perspective on stuff that happened in the original games instead of how dark it got. There were so many out of pocket things in this game that js left a bad taste in my mouth like the feet storylines, all the stuff w jeckas dad and how many blatantly racist jokes there were. I liked the old games a lot but I feel like this one js took everything a step too far I would’ve loved a version of this game that was more centered around funner and funnier stories.
I thought it was interesting to see the life Jecka deals with at home and such. I felt a really intense hatred for her dad, and I also think the foot scenes were excessive, but there is a chance the creator wanted to show the uncomfortable side of things for someone who isnt numb to everything like Nicole. That could be a reason why they were so drawn out. I really liked your comments look on things because im a firm believer in “art is meant to disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed. This is so sad, Nicole literally just… didn’t care about Jecka even after her suicide ending… but then we see Jecka, becoming depressed after Nicole’s suicide and literally finding her body to get away from her dad trying to beat her… Nicole didn’t understand how horrible Jecka’s life was and the situation she was in…

What makes it worse is that, Jecka is the closest, Nicole has to a person she even remotely likes in any way. Seeing Nicole's suicide from this perspective was so tragic, especially with the early warning signs early on in the game with her hostage friendships, then that fight in the hallway is a given. the people who know about the ending and played the previous games just has that sense of dread because they know what's coming but to a new player who has no idea about it, its just another one of those things.
Ending 5 is the worst ending ever. Imagine all that stress with absolutely nothing going right in your life all at the same time.. it's horrible. I'll hug her with you 🫂

Jecka's route is genuinely so sad, since she's not as.. resilient as nicole is. I hate that to some degree, i kind of relate to her. it feels darker than og class of 09, and every dialogue feels me with dread unlike the humorous dialogues in class of 09 + re-up. the devs really crafted a really good story.

Kelly just sort of accepted what's happening around her and moved with the flow imo. she was definitely influenced by those around her and felt more of a supporting role for the sake of supporting instead of driving the story (other than having the key to the warehouse)

Honestly, $15 for a 3-hour VN story doesn't seem worth it. Compared to Re:Up, this one has fewer endings, limited dialogue options, and feels like it’s being depressing just for the sake of it.

Cause till this day, I keep looking back and see how such a freak I am and how it cause me all the potential friendship and relationship I could’ve had in High School, but I do hope in the future, the Marine Corps going to give me another chance. TBH, many of us were a little bit like Jeffrey, or Crispin. It's just that you can't see yourselves from other people's perspective. Everybody passes through this stage of life at some point. It always ends after a significant change in your life: army, living by yourself, working a real job, being in a serious relationship. That's why many TH-camrs streamers don't grow up: they're not working for the amount of money they get and their lifestyle doesn't contribute on making their will and mind stronger. We, regular guys, should be happy to be given a chance at living a normal or slightly below average life, because it tempers us, leading to a better quality of life overall.
Just to weigh in on the whole “mischaracterization” discourse, I feel it’s not a matter of mischaracterization but more so of perspective. The last 2 games were from Nicole’s perspective, so of course the sociopathic and inhumane stuff she does is going to seem rational and lighthearted. Now that the game of from Jeckas perspective we can see how Nicole ACTUALLY is.. a sociopath. I mean, the first ending is essentially the same as the Arri and Karen endings from the re-up: Nicole goes way too far in pursuit of revenge over something extremely petty. The only difference is Jecka and Nicole have history, but to someone like Nicole that doesn’t even matter. Nicole never actually cared about Jecka, she was just easy to use as an accessory to her schemes, and someone to kill time with. Lastly you can clearly see a downward spiral of Nicole, even just from the first game and the re-up. Most of the first game Nicole despite taking things far ever now and then was almost always a victim or in the right, while in the re up most of Nicole’s decision making came down to what would be the most amusing.

Maybe the game doesn't explore much of the rest of the cast like in Re-up, but is a good first game with very... interesting endings(?). And the introduction of Re-up is like a compilation of the tings that happened there.

This game's endings are a bit closer in tone to the original than the Re-Up in my opinion, even considering the more outlandish parts.

The teacher dating story is genuinely SO well written it’s kinda disturbing 😳 like when she finally snaps and opens up to the therapist about it and when the therapist talks to her in the hallway, the way jecka was acting genuinely reminded me of a cornered animal. Edit: and on top of all that she was the one who found her best friend”s b0dy AFTER the therapist had it get out about her and the teacher. I guess it was at that point her world came crashing down and quite frankly I’m amazed that wasn’t the suicide ending. 😨

You think you would have all of this commentary about suffering of women and the social commentary on it if he wasn't trying to appeal to them? The ‘Crash’ ending was fascinating from a certain perspective. Jecka essentially becomes Nicole and completely shrugs off any real responsibility for her actions. For what it’s worth I think SBN3 got better at showcasing the implications of each choice you had made.

to be honest i wouldn’t be surprised if there isn’t a reason other than just more of the creator projecting weird fetish fantasy content into the game. with most of the artworks of jecka in this, it’s evident her body is being objectified no matter the irony of the situation
This game really drove home that Nicole is not a good person. It really emphasized that she’s parasitic. It showed she only got worse as she go older. In her perspective she’s “chill” but to everyone else she’s insufferable and spiralling.
Just finished the video, and man flipside is absolutely crazy.. The endings are insane, and the feet route is definitely the hardest thing I've had to watch in a while 💀 can't believe it's the end of the series, it was good while it lasted 🙏🏼 I hope that we'll at least get the small anime episode and some extra things here and there about the game, obviously not another full game again, but something just to keep the fanbase alive. Seeing how nicole acts in Jecka's prespective really nails down the fact she can be FUCK UP, like sure we've seen how bad she can be in re-up with ari and the any other times but most of the time you can still sympathize with her because she was usually a victim in the situation.

I dont wanna say its a great artistic and deeper story choice, but it does represent her maybe having a poor history with her mental state and being hypersexual and developing f3ti5h as a result or something. That where the keenk comes from, a place of loneliness and wishing to feel something or just escape and lose herself. Its the unhealthy coping mechanisms she adopts that become mental issues and poor decisions done to herself just wanting something beyond. Maybe all the endigns being bad are like this as well. Not everyone always has a hapoy end, many people end up homeless, jailed for life, dead, etc. jeckas bad endings represent her as one of these sad people who would never be happy or be misfortuned by destiny. Never a good ending, and never able to escape.

Her condition makes her unable to express her feelings to their fullest extent, she cares that Jeka died, but her brain just can’t fully process that jeka dying was bad because she’s as sociopath. She misses Jeka, but she’s fully incapable of feeling sympathy. Also, if she did let out her feelings of pain and sadness, her being a sociopath would amplify those to an outrageous extent. For a sociopath , love is obsession, sadness is depression, and anger is violent. Why do you think every time she gets mad or slightly upset She has a huge outburst? It’s because because she’s a sociopath, it may be self diagnosed, but she diagnosed herself correctly. Why do you think she was mean to Jeka when she said no to her? Not because she hates Jeka, she’s just fully incapable of understanding or caring about Jessica’s feelings because she’s a sociopath.
What do you think being a sociopath means? how did you graze over that key part of her character? Y’all think she’s being a bitch, but she has a mental disorder that makes her act like this. Her behavior is actually scarily accurate to an actual sociopaths base behavior. It isn’t her fault that she has a shitty family, and it’s not Jessica’s fault either, but being as sociopath is permanent.

When jecka is sitting there telling the counselor that no one cares about her or how her life is different forever and then the counselor said it won't be, and then jecka said exactly that hit hard. I've gone through similar things to jecka in this ending, and she's not wrong, sadly. Your life is different forever, and people will feel bad for you for like a week, but then they expect you to get over it, and when you dont, you're a crybaby or ooking for attention. And the fact that jecka said things were different for a week but then went back to how everything was before you can tell how lonely jecka actually is and feels, and that's really depressing.

Honestly I’m pretty torn on this game.
On one hand, a lot of the darker aspects feel just shoehorned in (the foot fetish shit was a bit much for no reason), but on the other hand maybe the darker aspects make sense since we see this all outside Nicole’s POV.
Nicole is a sociopath who is just depressed, bored, greedy, traumatized, and uncaring. In her games it’s played off as just that, doing things to leave boredom behind in such a crazy fucked up world. However, seeing it from Jecka’s POV we see the consequences that has on people who are genuinely human and are not sociopathic to the point of locking themself off from connections or hope. Jecka wants a better life but has no idea how to maneuver all the horrible shit around her and it eats her soul away. We also see Nicole for who she really is and how things aren’t as much as a cruel joke as she sees them and that actions truly have consequence. Now whether Nicole would truly fuck over Jecka to the degree she did in the first ending, I honestly don’t know. It could be Nicole’s POV from the first games influencing our opinion to view her more positively or that the creator just made her more edgy in this game for shock value. Nicole is a petty sociopath capable of much harm, as we’ve seen her do fucked up shit to others, but would she do that to Jecka? The person she views as the closest thing to true friend despite her sociopathic nature? I don’t know.
If this game was polished more and the fetish stuff turned down to fit the narrative better, the darker aspects of this game could’ve been played off very well. But it seems the developer just didn’t rly care much and produced the bare minimum. Overall a decent game, but with some very obvious and pointless flaws.

Very well worded. I think the first ending wasn’t all that unrealistic on Nicole’s side, though, since it’s shown in the first game that she does see revenge as an option (they both knew Jecka’s dad liked her and when Nicole wasnt allowed to get in on Jecka’s ”job” it triggered Nicole’s malicious intentions). Although, Maybe it’s not like Nicole to react that strongly to something Jecka does, and I have a hard time beliving she wouldn’t gone such lengths in the first games.
Other than that, despite the obvious fetsish- and schock value content, the first ending felt not too unrealistic. Jecka getting into a line of work that only spirals, getting worse and worse, until everything around her falls apart, she doesnt feel like anything but an object anymore and therefore, doesnt see any other way out.
god, getting to see nicole's suicide from jecka's perspective was much more heartbreaking than i thought. i love that this game has more cgs. having a main character that isn't apathetic really does hit different, especially the scenes where jecka's high and gets yelled at and overstimulated. i feel so terribly bad for her, and actually cried at some of the scenes 😭

With the kind of person Jeffery is, he got babied by his mom way too much and then got cut off when he stopped being cute, leaving him searching to fill the feminine void his mother left. Of course, his ideal world is made of living mommy flashlights. His mother (and possible absentee father) did fail him immensely by not preparing him for the world properly. It didn't help that his chosen coping mechanisms made it harder for him to change on his own, and the combination of these circumstances got him murdered by a person equally fucked up from her own broken life. Poor guy never stood a chance anyway, though, this whole franchise is like an edge lords magnum opus.

In Class Of 09, you eventually stop feeling bad about the hell that Nicole goes through because most of it is kinda her fault and she doesn't seem to care about it either.
When the protagonist actually has feelings and is put in a much worse environment that's completely out of her control, the game becomes a horror show.

i think it’s more, when the protag has empathy, we’re automatically more inclined to feel more empathy for her, more than we thought we had for nicole. alot of the stuff that happens in this game is stuff nicole would’ve gotten herself into too. literally almost everything. but because nicole is antisocial (which isnt a good thing, because of this it led to more mistreatment because her impassive reactions justified her mistreatment in her abusers eyes), when we see jecka respond with more emotion it seems as bad as it is. like jecka said in the re-up “do you seriously not get how bad this is”.. nicole does she just cant display that properly. in the games nicole gets into alot despite trying ti avoid it. when shes photographed in the locker room, the principal takes the destruction she wasnt even responsible for more seriously than what initially got her there. when she DOES destroy the lab, the photo is still displayed, her mom starts to beat her, and shes regularly harassed at her job.
It’s a game about a sociopath, the whole point of the game is that you were seeing it through the perspective of a sociopath. Someone who is incapable of handling their emotions properly, caring about themselves, and, feeling empathy. That was a huge part of her character and perspective. You think the way that Nicole lives isn’t bad, because Nicole doesn’t see how bad she lives. She sees her abuse as a minor inconvenience. Nicole’s mom literally didn’t give a fuck about her until she was dead/dieing, but she lets her brother live as a failure and put all the responsibility onto Nicole. Her brother is a child predator who she had to grow up with as a child. she moved from place to place losing parental figure after parental figure, friend after friend. it was clear that nobody even started liking her until she was pretty. Her life is shitty, but you don’t see how shitty it is because she treats it like it’s every day.
The whole point of the game is understanding someone who doesn’t understand themself. You don’t care because you aren’t her, she doesn’t express her emotions so you don’t try to understand them. Her mind doesn’t work like yours so you think she’s broken. But that’s not how that works. Being a sociopath is your brain shielding you from abuse. Usually from all kinds. Physical, mental, neglect, feeling all alone, unwanted, like a burden. Do any of these ring a bell for you? Because these are all things that went through in game even if she didn’t care, not even to mention the majority of her life that we didn’t get to see. She’s a victim who doesn’t victimize herself, so you don’t see her as a victim.

I do agree that there's a lot of not needed fetish stuff in this game, but I think that jecka being shirtless makes sense with the comments that she makes about wanting the people at the morgue to basically just objectify her. she wanted to be seen as attractive, even once she was dead. but idk
They had not shown her feet throughout the whole route, very carefully hiding them in every scene it happened. Then the ending comes in, you get to see the feet so many others were paying big money for, then for titillation they show her in a half naked position, almost like a reward for the route. Then they show you she’s dead. Someone might have gotten aroused, and now they’re aroused to a dead person. Immediate punishment. Like how dare you, she’s being telling you she’d rather be a beautiful corpse than ugly but alive so often across all the games. Now it happened. Everyone gets what they want huh? Truly a horrible ending for her.

It's weird how drastically different the home start and school start paths are.
Seeing the two foot fetish endings and the sex trafficking ending made me think this whole game was just torture porn trying to disguise itself as an edgy commentary on society. It was actually physically painful to see Jecka abused over and over---and for it to be sexualized in the CGs. I love Class of '09s dark, satirical humor...but this? This was too much for me. I know this is a fictional character, but sue me for feeling bad for fer. It felt so out of left field compared to the first installment of '09 and the Re-Up's content. It was so depraved and unhinged in a way I did not expect, and the other games were already pretty high up there.
But maybe that was the point---this is Jecka's story. She's not a sociopath like Nicole. She's not going to cope or make the same decisions as her. She's so much more vulnerable to getting exploited and it affecting her much more intensely. We see it happen when Nicole gets shot by the mall cop. Nicole recovers and is still snappy after, but Jecka gets serious PTSD from it and ends up submitting just to not get hit or killed. It doesn't help that she already has a physically and emotionally abusive father (who also is heavily implied to want to fuck her, but doesn't because they're too related...what the fuck). The story goes all out on how situations like sexual favors and just being at the wrong place at the wrong time can escalate without the mindset of Nicole. And the excessive mentions of parental incest (mostly in the form of fetish) also sadly, actually happens. It doesn't receive as much coverage because of how deeply disturbing and fucked up it is. Maybe SBN3 wanted to show this unfiltered reality.
I almost did not finish watching how the rest played out, but I was so morbidly curious. I got whiplash when the last two routes were actually...normal? (relative to the usual Class of '09 standard at least). It had that classic C09 humor with a relative balance of humor and darkness. My favorite was Jecka's POV in Nicole's suicide route. It gave us more context to why Jecka was so upset with Nicole for hanging out with loser guys instead of her---She was in a hostage relationship too. I enjoyed the dialogue a lot more, and it didn't lean as heavily on the shock factor as much as the other routes I talked about previously. I love when Jecka asks Ms. Ames what the fuck she actually understands about any of what she's going through. As someone who's had a shitty therapist and family members saying similar things to her and Jecka's dad, that whole conversation hit home.
I still have really mixed feelings for this game, but I'm glad I still gave it a chance even though I was extremely uncomfortable for most of it. It's definitely really controversial, but objectively (in my opinion, LOL), it still improved the series' story telling.
...But did the foot fetish routes have to be so long and detailed---the fact that there was even TWO of them?? C'mon now.

I agree w everything u said I wish there were more storylines of just jeckas perspective on stuff that happened in the original games instead of how dark it got. There were so many out of pocket things in this game that js left a bad taste in my mouth like the feet storylines, all the stuff w jeckas dad and how many blatantly racist jokes there were. I liked the old games a lot but I feel like this one js took everything a step too far I would’ve loved a version of this game that was more centered around funner and funnier stories.
I thought it was interesting to see the life Jecka deals with at home and such. I felt a really intense hatred for her dad, and I also think the foot scenes were excessive, but there is a chance the creator wanted to show the uncomfortable side of things for someone who isnt numb to everything like Nicole. That could be a reason why they were so drawn out. I really liked your comments look on things because im a firm believer in “art is meant to disturb the comfortable and comfort the disturbed.

Seeing Nicole's suicide from this perspective was so tragic, especially with the early warning signs early on in the game with her hostage friendships, then that fight in the hallway is a given. the people who know about the ending and played the previous games just has that sense of dread because they know what's coming but to a new player who has no idea about it, its just another one of those things.
This is so much more depressing than Nicole’s version 😭 I just want to give Jecka a big hug :(

Jecka's route is genuinely so sad, since she's not as.. resilient as nicole is. I hate that to some degree, i kind of relate to her. it feels darker than og class of 09, and every dialogue feels me with dread unlike the humorous dialogues in class of 09 + re-up. the devs really crafted a really good story.
Jeffrey literally says they need to face real life. Jecka abuses drugs to escape real life. And she can’t face it alone which you can see. Nicole abuses others to change her life.

TBH, many of us were a little bit like Jeffrey, or Crispin. It's just that you can't see yourselves from other people's perspective. Everybody passes through this stage of life at some point. It always ends after a significant change in your life: army, living by yourself, working a real job, being in a serious relationship. That's why many TH-camrs streamers don't grow up: they're not working for the amount of money they get and their lifestyle doesn't contribute on making their will and mind stronger. We, regular guys, should be happy to be given a chance at living a normal or slightly below average life, because it tempers us, leading to a better quality of life overall.

Just to weigh in on the whole “mischaracterization” discourse, I feel it’s not a matter of mischaracterization but more so of perspective. The last 2 games were from Nicole’s perspective, so of course the sociopathic and inhumane stuff she does is going to seem rational and lighthearted. Now that the game of from Jeckas perspective we can see how Nicole ACTUALLY is.. a sociopath. I mean, the first ending is essentially the same as the Arri and Karen endings from the re-up: Nicole goes way too far in pursuit of revenge over something extremely petty. The only difference is Jecka and Nicole have history, but to someone like Nicole that doesn’t even matter. Nicole never actually cared about Jecka, she was just easy to use as an accessory to her schemes, and someone to kill time with. Lastly you can clearly see a downward spiral of Nicole, even just from the first game and the re-up. Most of the first game Nicole despite taking things far ever now and then was almost always a victim or in the right, while in the re up most of Nicole’s decision making came down to what would be the most amusing.

This game's endings are a bit closer in tone to the original than the Re-Up in my opinion, even considering the more outlandish parts.

The teacher dating story is genuinely SO well written it’s kinda disturbing 😳 like when she finally snaps and opens up to the therapist about it and when the therapist talks to her in the hallway, the way jecka was acting genuinely reminded me of a cornered animal.

You think you would have all of this commentary about suffering of women and the social commentary on it if he wasn't trying to appeal to them? You might think him being actually socially aware about the issues was him trying to use it as a joke, but in reality he was just using it as a joke but serious in revealing it It's an issue. The ‘Crash’ ending was fascinating from a certain perspective.
Jecka essentially becomes Nicole and completely shrugs off any real responsibility for her actions.
For what it’s worth I think SBN3 got better at showcasing the implications of each choice you had made.
I especially like how Jecka's hair is dyed to be a similar color to Nicole's hair. That really emphasizes the shift pretty well.

to be honest i wouldn’t be surprised if there isn’t a reason other than just more of the creator projecting weird fetish fantasy content into the game. with most of the artworks of jecka in this, it’s evident her body is being objectified no matter the irony of the situation

This game really drove home that Nicole is not a good person. It really emphasized that she’s parasitic. It showed she only got worse as she go older.
In her perspective she’s “chill” but to everyone else she’s insufferable and spiralling.
Just finished the video, and man flipside is absolutely crazy.. The endings are insane, and the feet route is definitely the hardest thing I've had to watch in a while 💀 can't believe it's the end of the series, it was good while it lasted 🙏🏼 I hope that we'll at least get the small anime episode and some extra things here and there about the game, obviously not another full game again, but something just to keep the fanbase alive. Seeing how nicole acts in Jecka's prespective really nails down the fact she can be FUCK UP, like sure we've seen how bad she can be in re-up with ari and the any other times but most of the time you can still sympathize with her because she was usually a victim in the situation.
