My folks had a 1973 Country Squire with a 400 2 barrel, it was quite the highway car and not half bad on fuel for such a big vehicle. We also had a 1975 F-100 longbed stepside that my dad used as a work truck, it ended up rusting to death unfortunately...

Back in 1965y father and mother bought a country sedan he ordered a police interceptor four bbl. Carburetor with a three speed on the column, boy would she run,pulled a travel trailer, my dad got six weeks ayear we traveled in almost all the states, it was birches when I was young.

Yes, at the slow speed of 50 mph. At 60 it would drop to maybe 17 mpg, and 70 down to 16. A lot like a v6 large SUV today.

My co-worker bought a brand new 2005 Thunderbird retro convertible.
According to him he got 15/18 mpg.
My Dad had a 1965 Thunderbird. It got 12/15 mpg.
So glad to see how far the Thunderbird has come on gas economy.

It would have come further if all the heavy safety features were left off it. The 2005 is much cleaner and safer, so we came a long way in those areas, at the expense of gas mileage.

@@new2000car at 60, a 351 2V is getting about 18. My 74 LTD 400 2V gets 17 at 60
that's 2200 PRM. I would guess a little better if the carb and engine were tuned right.
4300 - 4700 lbs for this year. got heavier and heavier to 78.
