    Enjoyed the vid. I been milking Jerseys /Mini Jerseys for almost 50 years now. I might suggest you clip off the excess hair on the cows udder. It will eliminate a lot of debris dirt etc. Make prep time easier as well. Much more sanitary. Happy New year~!

      50 years, wow! I'm sure I could learn a lot from you! That sounds like a really good idea to me. I might just do that. Not a problem at all during the summer, but it gets pretty furry in the winter 😀 Thanks! Happy New Year to you too!

    Would love if you’d do a video on how you clean your utensils! Sterilize? Soap water? Vinegar? Etc. I know in one of your videos you said everyone has over hyped all that, or something to that sort.

    • @morethanfarmers
      @morethanfarmers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for the idea.. I'll see if I can get that in sometime. But yes, I believe the sterilizing thing is way overblown. Do you sterilize everything after you work with raw meat or raw eggs? I doubt it. We are very particular about getting everything VERY clean, but soap and water is all it gets.

    You can also just fold the filter to make it into a cone.

      Yeah.. We wanted something that would work more smoothly and be more reliable so we ended up getting a medium size strainer from Shenandoah Homestead Supply. It's awesome! I reviewed it in this video here: th-cam.com/video/8hAVTTD9KeU/w-d-xo.html

      @@morethanfarmers yes, we got one from caprine supply. It is so much faster and less accident-prone.

    If you drank store bought milk was there a big adjustment taste/ texture wise to go to fresh?

    • @morethanfarmers

      There is a taste difference... shouldn't be a huge hurdle 😊

    Hey Cody, what is your process for cleaning or disinfecting the frozen bottles before putting back in the freezer to reuse the next day?

    • @morethanfarmers
      @morethanfarmers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The dishwasher. Then every so often Shelli will take the caps off and clean em real well and refill. We make sure to get the solid plastic kind that won’t melt in the dishwasher or break down quickly.

    • @coramdayo
      @coramdayo 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@morethanfarmers So when you say the dishwasher, I assume you're saying daily, yes? So they are thawed by the time you come in from milking and you put the in the dishwasher empty of water?

    • @morethanfarmers
      @morethanfarmers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes daily, but no they aren't empty. We put them in the dishwasher with the cap still tightly screwed on. Then every once in awhile she'll take the caps off, and clean and refill.

    So do you just do the dry kelp or do you also have a free choice mineral in the pasture?

    • @morethanfarmers
      @morethanfarmers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Weeeelll both 😁 I sometimes have a mineral lick tub out for her, but when it runs out I tend to go awhile without one cuz they’re so expensive 😬 it would definitely be better to have one out though, or something equal to it.

      @@morethanfarmers do you get your kelp at your local feed store?

    • @morethanfarmers
      @morethanfarmers  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      No, I get my chicken feed from an Amish guy that gets it in for me. Before that I got it online. New Country Organics I think. You might just have to search around a bit.

    Can you share where you got your funnel & filter set up please?

    • @morethanfarmers
      @morethanfarmers  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yeah! So what I'm using in this video is just a regular stainless steel funnel, and a stainless steel canning funnel. Both of those should be easy to find on Amazon, or possibly at WalMart or somewhere like that. The filters I'm using are the KenAg 6 1/2" Disks. You can get those at different online retailers. The cheapest place I've found for them though is Tractor Supply. If they don't have them in stock they should be able to order them in for you. Since publishing this video we got an actual medium sized milk strainer from Shenandoah Homestead Supply. It's THE BOMB! It's only around $30 and it makes a huge difference straining the milk every morning. I wouldn't wanna be without it now. Just soon I'll be publishing a Homestead Kitchen Tool video, and that strainer is part of it. I'm waiting to publish it though because Shenandoah Homestead Supply is out of stock in those, and I don't want people to be disappointed when they go lookin for it. The owner is a friend of mine, and he said they should have them in stock in a week or two. Here is the link for it though and you can go ahead and check it out: www.shenandoahhomesteadsupply.com/collections/milk-strainers/products/medium-stainless-steel-strainer-for-large-mouth-jars?ref=dvxql6t8ty&variant=29211690696798
