      @@9HoleReviewsYou should do a video on yours! Especially if it's a Gen 1.
      Also, while I love this 1911 Syndicate video, it's another missed opportunity for a modern look and analysis of the PPK chambered in .32 ACP. I get it's not in production anymore, but the vast majority of Bond films feature the pistol in this chambering, which to me makes it an entirely different gun.

    The PPK in 7.65mm is still the one. I bought one from a Manchester gun shop in 1964 for £12. It was a prewar Zella-Mehlis manufacture with immaculate bluing. Geoffrey(pronounced Jeffrey) Boothroyd was a member of Glasgow Rifle and Pistol club when he wrote to Ian Fleming. He wasn't Scottish but originally from Blackpool, Lancashire.

    • @justanothergunnerd8128
      @justanothergunnerd8128 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +6

      I totally agree. The PPK makes the most sense - way back when and now in .32 ACP/7.65mm. The size, low capacity and recoil sensitive nature of the pistol just begs for it to be in .32/7.65 exclusively. I've owned a PPK in .380 ACP (9x17mm) and it was rather awful to shoot. Also, I never get slide bite with my smaller, thin hands - but I did with the PPK in .380 - and I never have with any other pistol over the years. 7.65mm for the win!

    Missing a few: Roger Moore had a S&W Model 29 in .44 in a super sweet shoulder holster that he used in Live and Let Die’s finale. Craig’s Bond disarms a security officer that came to detain him and uses his P226 in the finale of Quantum of Solace. The P226 makes appearances again in Spectre and the finale of No Time to Die. Craig’s Bond seemingly uses the PPK as his EDC while the P226 is his “go to war” pistol. He also had a Browning Hi Power as his home defense gun while living retired in Jamaica.

      I was just about to post about Bond using the Walther P5. In Dr. No, you see him using the Walther PP. I think they did that because it's a little bit bigger and you can see it better. Then in in Live and Let Die, he uses a S&W Model 29 when confronting the Voodoo camp and rescuing Solitaire. Most of the Daniel Craig era films, he's using a Walther PPK/S. So in your shooting, if you would have used the PPK/S, you would have had one more round and the newer PPK/S's that were using in Craig's films, the frame had a longer tang on it and would have protected your hand from hammer/slide bite. Bond uses a lot of different guns throughout the movies and books, but the top 3 I would say would be the Walther PPK, Walther P99 and the Walther P5. In that order. Fun Video!!! Good Job!

    • @gameragodzilla
      @gameragodzilla 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +4

      @@devinj.3657 No, they used a PP in Dr. No due to that movie actually being fairly low budget. James Bond didn’t really reach Blockbuster status until Goldfinger, so for the first movie they were much more limited in options. A lot of props were stand ins for other guns if you have a sharp eye, like the Beretta in the movie actually being a newer .380 pistol (actually more powerful than .32 ACP) to stand in for the .25ACP pistol from the novel, and the famous scene where Professor Dent’s gun was clearly supposed a S&W revolver of some kind but the prop used was a Colt 1911.
      Since Dr. No was a success, though, they were able to have a larger budget for From Russia With Love and give Bond a proper PPK.

    As a Bond nut, i found a P99-AS second hand at a pawn shop and snatched it up. Thinking it would be a safe queen, just to have a real steel Bond gun. I then took it to the range and fell in love with that trigger system. That was in 2015, and since then that P99 has been my main CCW handgun. Personally i carry it with it decocked, yeah it is a very heavy pull. The thing is, you gotta practice it. Every range session with it, you have to pay particular attention to your first shot. Best to go to a range that allows draw and fire from the holster, that way you can practice that first round fired. Spend a couple magazines drawing and firing when it was decocked. with that practice, the P99 is one of the most accurate pistols for me. I changed the sights to XS Big Dots, and i have a Olight light laser combo. The XS sights are the second best option to a pistol red dot.

  • @thomasloper1205

    Both guns are fantastic when you consider the context in which they were made. The 1911 was built to go to war. The PP/K was built to be a carried covertly. When you look at in that way, the genius of each design is clear. John Browning's comparable carry design is the 1903 Colt Pocket Hammerless in .32 acp and it is larger and heavier than the PPK and also doesn't have the DA/SA trigger. The PPK delivers the same firepower in a smaller, smoother, safer (DA/SA trigger), easier to carry and conceal package. The P99 is the best of both worlds, a carry pistol, but also a war pistol. The DA/SA trigger on the P99 lets you safely carry off body or in something other than a kydex holster and still have a super precision trigger when needed and 15 rounds of 9mm. That was Walther's goal, to place the DA/SA trigger from the PPK into a gun that could go to battle if needed. The true successor to the PPK, that Bond should have used, is the PPS. 7 rounds of 9mm in a slim and concealable package that still has super precision and speed. If only thay had put the DA/SA trigger in the PPS that would be ideal. But the P99 can really do it all. The only reason Walther is discontinuing the P99 is probably because there is no way to mount a red dot on the slide with the decocker button. That's really the only thing the gen 2 P99 can't do as well or better than any other compact gun out there.

    The P99 is a God. I love that pistol - probably the most innovative of the 1990s. It's just fantastic and has something for everyone, the D.A. setting, the A.S. setting, or if you want to be super tacti-cool and borderline unsafe, carry it with the short trigger reset (single action on this gun???). It's just an all around fantastically underrated pistol in the mainstream...

The beretta would be EDC and the hi power would be for more dangerous work. Now would he have a secret gun room with suppressed sterling mk4 or M3 SMG. IMHO Bond should be armed for the next installment with something like a PDP-F. If Brosnan was able to carry a P99 in the 90s, the new guy should be able to pack a smaller gun than than that one. I'd like to envision a part of the movie with exploring a bit 007's military background, since Pierce had SAS wings on his naval blues uniform in Tomorrow Never Dies, implying that he was a Blade prior to MI6. With that, him carrying the new UKSF long guns with his trusty Walther would be interesting, even for just a training snippet like the one seen at the beginning of The Living Daylights. Eventually at the end of the movie, he could carry a PPK just for continuity's sake and say that his PDP got lost, like in Octopussy when Moore looses the classic pistol.
    Bond should be integrated into the 21st century on weaponry, but not changed anywhere else.

    P99 all the way. I bought my gen 2 right before they discontinued it for the civilian market in favor of the PPQ. I carried it as a duty gun for years. I bought a PPQ as well to carry off-duty so I would have a similar enough gun to fit in my holsters and mag pouches. I like them both, but I prefer the P99 for on duty and the PPQ for off duty. I'll probably cave and buy the new PDP as well because it's a nice looking gun.

    2:00 You forget Octopussy & Never Say Never Again where he used the Walther P5.
    (Also, Dr. No being low budget, couldn't get ahold of a PPK so they used a PP instead [though, it's referred to as a PPK.])
    33:40 I believe in the later books he carried both (I only read the original 14 by Ian Fleming) The PPK for concealability, used only for self-defense and to get away. The P99 for when he knows he's going to get in a gunfight or assault some place. [Also, in the original books, he had 3 guns: Beretta 418/PPK as his carry gun; .38 revolver as his room/hotel gun; and for even more fire power .45 1911 as his car gun.]
    34:23 I got mine in .22LR this year (2023) for $655.77 new.

It's the same with cars,I know that a modern Ford Mustang has a more powerful engine, handles better, is safer in a crash, etc. compared to a 1964 Mustang,but the classic still has something cool about it that makes me like it more.

    Left out that Bond does use the Sig P226 Navy (or a variant of it) in a couple of the Daniel Craig films, in Spectre, and No Time to Die. He's even in the promo art for No Time to Die wielding the Sig P226 in what appears to be some kind of Safariland holster for his final mission.

  • @lib556
    @lib556 26 วันที่ผ่านมา

    Fun topic. Right out of the gate there's a problem in that Bond's PPK was .32 ACP (7.65 mm) and not .380. You also missed the .44 in Live and Let Die and the P5 which is likely a better gun than the PPK being in a proper calibre and with slightly higher capacity while retaining concealability.
    In all aspects (except a bit of concealability) the P 99 is far superior. 9 mm is the better round. Capacity. Ergonomics. Sights. Trigger.... it goes on. All that said, however, we need to ask what is the purpose of Bond's carry gun? He's a spy. He's sneaking around. He's not leading the charge into a lair of bad dudes. If and when he does that, he gets a weapon suited for that job (like a rifle). His sidearm is a discreet, last ditch self defence weapon. The concealability is more important than the calibre. By all accounts, the .32 shoots better out of a pocket gun than .380 so maybe even that is preferred for Bond. Although the .25 in the Beretta would be stretching that concept too far... It's akin to why a 3 man recce patrol doesn't arm every one with a belt fed GPMG... they aren't going out to start a fight. Their personal weapons are to break contact (if they slip up and are seen) and to aid in evasion. If Bond got 'stuck into it' with his poxy .32, he can use it to, as Col Cooper would say, "fight his way to a real gun".
    Despite every argument I just made for a pocket gun, I think a compromise may be needed. Even though his sidearm is for emergency self defence, he'd be better off with something minimum of 9 mm. That's why I liked the used of the P5 so much. Proper calibre. Traditional looks etc. Concealable. 8 rd mag. I honestly think the modern Bond would use one of the latest pocket 9s - Sig 365, M&P Shield etc. Last ditch, defensive, highly concealable while in a proper, effective calibre.

    In response to your question about whether or not the P99 might ever achieve "retro cool" status: i think that's what Walther did to the P99 by discontinuing the series.
    Whether intentional or not, when something is no longer be actively manufactured its value to those who want it goes up. Walther has started an entirely new discussion around the P99 and brought it to people's artention because it's going to become more rare now.
    NOW, i might catch some flak for this, but in response to the question of "what new pistol will Bond use?" I think the answer should be the P365XL. It's close to the same size as the PPK and easily concealable while packing double the ammo of the PPK AND in a more capable round, it can accept a weapon light and (with a threaded barrel) a suppressor for some added "stealth" the regular P365 is actually smaller than the PPK and still holds more rounds of a more powerful cartridge, but i think an XL (or better yet, an xMacro cut down to take XL mags) just is better all around, it's still small, but most people can get a more or less "full" firing grip on it and do work with it.

  • @luckyduckydrivingschool3615

    I think the PPK has a heavier recoil feel because it's so top heavy (high center of inertia). The slide is soaking up all the recoil impulse and throwing it back over your wrist and you don't have much to balance that on such a small gun.

And yes, the P99 or little bought (production numbers?) PPQ SC should be Bond's pistol moving forward (Walther put my unboxing of such in their playlist which is cool). Unfortunately, PDPs overly wide and heavy slide is antithesis to a Bond gun. I do have a Manurhin PP box I bought for a penny...apparently a PP in .32 is pretty nice....though I'd want a Sig p230 or Makarov if handling real stuff but regulated to old school lower power direct blowback pistols.

    I would like Walther to update the PPK/s (modern trigger; frame mounted safety/no manual safety; adjustable/removable sights; more reliable; maybe lighter; higher capacity) or for Bond to start using a Walther CCP M2+ or a SIG P365 in the films, now (especially for concealment). They're modern and they look the part (the CCP M2+ actually feels like a PPK/P99 hybrid to me).
    I'm still hoping for a more aesthetically pleasing update of the 1st Gen. Walther P99 than what we've currently seen (a PPQ M2 style slide; a CCP M2+ style accessory rail and trigger guard for a TLR7A; a PDP Compact style trigger, mag release and grip) for when Bond wants a larger pistol.
    Until that happens, I would like him to carry a PPQ M2 or something like a CZ 75 SP-01 Shadow, a P226 XFIVE Legion, a Glock 17 with a Nomad 9X Frame, a Maxim Defense Ruger MKIV-SD, an M&P 5.7 or an HK45 for that situation.

    For every job a weapon and for every weapon a Job.

    If we except « Octopussy » (Walther P5), Bond uses three Walthers. In « Dr No », he switches his Beretta 418 for a Walther PP. In following movies, both PPK (in .32ACP) and PPK/S (in 380 ACP) are present.
    In « Spectre », we see a SiG P.226, again in « No time to die », beside a Browning HP 35, a Glock and a HK VP9.
    Small criticism: to complete your work and to be fair, you should have compared the trigger weight in DA/SA of the P.99. This gun mechanism is fabulous, mixing stricker-fired with DA/SA. Very clever !
