Man doughboy saying “don’t take that ball” is really him saying “Don’t put me in the position to have to defend yo honor” because he knew he wasn’t gone let shit happen to his bro
I don't really fault Furious in not focusing on the other kids like he did Tre because Tre was his main priority. He tried to give game to the other kids when he could but the main focus was his son as it should be.
@15:24 I must defend Furious Styles! He was about his business, and seeing that Tre didn't succumb to the potential danger of living in that neighborhood. As to why he didn't play cards with his adult neighbors anymore, think about what he mentioned about Ricky and Doughboy's mother. "She would've had a chance, but she talk too much!" Furious didn't want his personal business in the street! BTW: Furious was doing positive things in the community. Helping Black people get money for their houses, and lecturing against the neighborhood being victimized by gentrification!
Boyz N The Hood is the quintessential hood classic & it opened the flood gates for future hood movies. I was 10 years old visiting family in Fresno the first time i saw this movie. Ricky & Doughboy’s mom favortism towards Ricky did more damage to Doughboy than the hood ever did & she lost both of her sons as a result of her favoritism. Fun Facts: Little Ricky was played by Dovonan Mccrary. He’s the brother of Darius Mccrary, Eddie Winslow from Family Matters. The dude who killed Ricky was played by the late Lloyd Avery II. He was also in Poetic Justice, Don’t Be A Menace To South Central While Drinking Your Juice In The Hood, Lockdown & Shot. He left the suburbs to gang bang and ended up getting murdered in prison. Tyrin Turner (Caine from Menace II Society) auditioned for the role of Trey. He said he did the part when Trey broke down. He also said he learned that in Hollywood they tell you anything because he told him he got the part. Can we please get reviews on the following movies that were released in 1991: Jungle Fever Talkin Dirty After Dark The People Under The Stairs House Party 2. The Five Heartbeats
the title was super legit, these were truly "boys" they were in High school (16/17) , Doh and his crew were only a couple years older. Doh even said "why is he messing with people our age, his old ass is 27"
It’s weird because I agree with you 100 percent but I do just wish the moms of the neighborhood seen the way furious was and pushed their sons to listen to him because besides furious I never seen or heard of any other father in the movie.
19:58 Tone forgets "you can lead a horse to water but you can't make it drink" though the other boys didn't turn out like Tre, that's not on Furious. He did his part, the rest was on them. This is evident in how he handled Tre getting ready to "ride out". He didn't stop him, he reminded him of what's at stake and let him make his own decisions. Edit: lol shout out to Ant! 26:02
I just read on imdb that the kid in the red polo with the long jerri curls that asked Ricky what happened when doughboy got arrested was the one that grew up to be the dude that shot and killed Ricky.
@23:12 "Sun, Moon, stars, quasars. You sound like MF'n Elroy Jetson!" Doughboy had SERIOUS potential, which was ignored by his mother, among other people in the neighborhood! I also believe Furious had some effect, though limited, on Doughboy. Consider who Doughboy equated Furious to.
@29:00 I used to have the Director's Cut of BOYZ N THE HOOD. John Singleton explained various scenes throughout the movie. If I get my hands on that video again, I will look for the scene where Doughboy confronts Furious.
I am curious why y’all never mentioned the emotional range Doboy and Ricky’s mom showed throughout the movie especially the moment they bring in Ricky’s dead body. How she was stunned into silence which is saying something for a woman that seems like she seen a lot. Her micro nonverbal expressions are on point. This movie is on another level
Side note Can someone please help me understand why our parents used to buy us toys only to tell us not to take them outside. "So you bought me a bike so I could look at it in the house?" 😂
Another “Tre” post Ricky death take. I’m wondering what Tre would’ve done, if they would’ve found them fools right after he jumped into the ‘64. I think he only got out, because he had time to think. I believe that made the difference. He was ready to ride, initially.
Oooo…I have a hot take! Could it be that Dough Boy was not menace because of the seeds that Furious dropped into him? Granted Furious couldn’t save him, but maybe if Dough had the opportunity to leave the hood he would have fared well 🤷🏾♀️
Can't lie, everytime I see Ant, I just think about, "The Head Thief, the prequel" 😂 that man legit said, "you know I grew up with my grandma right? So I know tapioca pudding, that's my shit!"🤣
I’ve watched this episode 3 or 4 times now…. And when y’all discussed Trae getting out the car it made me think of Jodi and Melvin…. Jodi made the decision to go through with catching the body….
Being a man from the hood born in the 90s... THIS MOVIE DEFINES ME PERFECTLY!!! My mom truly sent me to my pop's for best effort cause as a teen... any mother's son is gonna cause some hell! I was Tre (Never "Dough lemme out" tho), but his father IS MY POPS... disciplined at its finest with guidance to teach him for better!!! I know many Rickys (DoA) and Doughboys also, so this movie is the essence of Neg/Pos in the hood; from friends to just the neighborhood!!! The purest hood movie so vividly outside Menace... BNTH is the older brother of Menace!!! 5 Golden 👊👊👊👊👊 classic film BLACKBUSTER MASTERPIECE!!! 1:02:03 I never thought about this until NOW!!!! TRE NEVER SAID A WORD TO HIS POPS BOUT THE DRAW DOWN!!!
Tone walking out was classic. Man I’m from Buffalo, NY and the hood aspect of Boyz N Tha Hood reminds me of my life. We didn’t have all the gang activity when I was a kid but everything else was exactly the same. I would love to talk to Jah and Tone about this!!!
I wanna see them break down a film starring Angela Bassett, but in her prime🙌🏾 maybe “How Stella Got Get Groove Back” or even “What’s Love Gotta Do With It”…. Both r classics where she shined 🌟 #Blackbusters
WHAT'S LOVE GOT TO DO WITH IT made me want to march through that screen and beat the brakes off of Laurence Fishburne. Not because of what he did to Angela Bassett (although that did ruin them as an acting team for quite some time), but because he put hands on Vanessa Bell Calloway. That's my girl!
Doughboy letting him out the car with no ridicule was top 5 most beautiful/saddest moments in movie history: “I love u bro this not for you our lives are ruined you still got time left to change “
This movie was and is life. I was 11 when this came out.. A true representation of how we were living, even the setting was L.A. It was like that down here in Southeast San Diego. Whole family went to go see it. And with my name being Darren like Doe Boy, you couldn’t tell me nothing. But my pops was actually Doe Boy, a real G. I grew up to be more like Tre with a little bit of Ricky. Appreciate and salute. 🫡 #RipJohnSingleton #BoyzNThaHood #Classic
This is the best episode to me. All the others were good. Weaving personal stories and the movie and staying on topic yall were in the pocket on this one
I wish y’all had more time on this movie because the small acting choices by Ricky and doe boys momma when she saw Rickey’s dead body she started itching due to shock omg
I’m 7 months late watching y’all review, but it was great how it was broken down. I feel we all have these stories to some extent. My least valuable but should of been the most valuable was the moms. Tre was only supposed to stay for a little while and he ended up staying in that environment. Dough and Ricky’s mother was trash all the way around. She enabled Ricky and was never there for Dough!!! I just watched it again because of you guys!!! Great movie!!!!
You know something after watching this breakdown and rewatching BNTH John foreshadowed that lil Chris was gonna be in a wheelchair from the jump cuz wen him and doe was introduced as they left doe was standing lil Chris was on his knees on that skateboard
You can say Furious was portraying Morpheus Characteristics even in this movie, because of that scene when he's using those silver balls and when trey gets out the car he stops.
I would think Ricky being friends with Trey is the reason Ricky was able to make it as far as he did otherwise he could’ve just been like Doe Boy ! I’m sure Furious Styles had something to do with that, they jumped from middle school to their senior year, that’s a lot of nights across the street with a more structured situation
Doughboy had the real ending like franklin in snowfall . every character got a ending like snowfall .ricky victim of violence , doughboy victim of violence , trey got the leon ending . going to school with his neigbor hood sweet heart in atlanta in 94 atlanta was wakanda to everyone
I was about to say the same (based on another channel that did a great breakdown on this movie). That's probably the reason Furious said that about Doughboy's & Ricky's mom in the beginning, & why she was ALWAYS downing Doughboy throughout his life.
On another channel that did a theory breakdown on this movie, it's implied that Furious secretly Doughboy's father. Hence why Furious said what he said about Doughboy's & Ricky's mom at the beginning & why their mom was ALWAYS downing Doughboy throughout his life.
I feel the argument about Furious not being shit but the reality is America forces us to not focus on community as a whole. We can only drown for our own seeds
My man was absolutely right about furious no take was so honest and factual and reel that I've changed my perspective as you for tanks 2 furious but I think two things can be true at the same time because everyone's viewpoint on furious was true as well but thanks for the take bro never heard it that way awesome
Furious wasn’t the ‘bad guy’, the ‘bad guys’ were Ricky’s and Daren’s (Doughboy) mom and their dads. The mother was emotional abusive and their fathers were not involved in their sons’ lives… Furious was the closest thing Ricky and Doughboy had to a positive male role model, but it’s the parents responsibility to be the first teachers.
Doughboy is furious son, check out the BBQ scene when he said he like to read. And then how furious said that woman can STILL make some good food @biggjah

Apparently, John Singleton had a small part in all the movies he made.
I didn’t catch that wow
The way y’all broke this down just changed my level of appreciation for this movie. Wooow. I’m going to watch this tonight!!
Jesus loves you repent and be saved
Word. This was a great review/breakdown
You know how much Ricky was loved because he got the baby momma and the kid in the house
Doughboy talking about Ricky's "In-house [Punanny]". LOL!
Man that's deep 😂 never thought about that
And he was doing something with his life
And he never got hit for no reason. 😂🤣
Frying fish with the mother😅
I don't really fault Furious in not focusing on the other kids like he did Tre because Tre was his main priority. He tried to give game to the other kids when he could but the main focus was his son as it should be.

Facts!! Don’t know what tone was talking about ! Lol
In an alternate universe, Ricky grows up to be Lance from the "Best Man" movie 😥
The way you all discuss cinema, is Art within itself!
Facts!!!! The level of appreciation and nuance is unmatched
This episode alone is a good representation of why fathers are needed in the home
