I always, always appreciate your transparency Emily. Producing a young horse is so difficult. And we all have confidence knocks. Riding a green horse with such a huge jump is really intimidating. You did so well x

    Em,
I absolutely love the way you take care and talk about your beautiful ponies. They are both so sweet and kind. The fact
that you can still take Spritey to the beach and gallop her on the sand is a wonderful thing to watch. No one would ever guess her age just by looking at her, she looks much younger. That has all to do with your terrific care and the loving cuddles you give
to them. Keep it up Em and Spritey will be here for ages. Your Addy is coming along so well, she has advanced in her
education incredibly, with all the training and lessons that you give her. Addy is also the most super jumper for her young
age. Has she grown a lot since you got her? Well done with everything. Jane 🐎🐴👍😎🧑🏻‍🦰

Oh my goodness, I had heart palpitations at the ditch! My horse is like that crossing water. I had a hysterical crying session with my trainer telling me the same thing that he was to you but I was out of shape and a big ole chicken! Great job, Emily.

Girl don’t be so hard on yourself. These things happen! Babies are babies! You learn with them! It’s hard! I cried and still cry now and mine is eight this year 😂 you’re doing absolutely fantastic with Addie! Give yourself a wee break girl and actually give yourself a pat on the back for being so brave! Well done! You guys were brilliant! ❤

wow! A really good beneficial lesson. The good, the bad & the ugly, all of it, is what helps other riders. Thank you for the brave honesty. I think you have an equine partner that will meet your expectations and more. She's only five years old, not physically (bones etc) mature until eight years. No need to rush, just solidify her lessons and her confidence along with your own. Trust your instincts also. "You have knowledge with out Knowing it." Stay safe. 😎🐎💙

Hello Em, I enjoyed your short ride with Spritey and your beautiful Nala. She certainly is agile, being able to jump up on Spritey
like she did. Spritey also was full of beans trotting so strongly and actively. I can’t wait to see the rest of your video when you get to the X/C training session. Have lots of fun. Jane 👍😎🧑🏻‍🦰

You did make me feel better! I have a young horse too and out of seemingly nowhere the manners have dropped a couple of times and I’ve found myself returning to groundwork in the middle of a session and in fact once before even riding! I personally thought you were so persistent! I would have been like FREEEEEEEEED can you hop on and take her over the ditch once please😂😂😂

I have a 12 year old dressage horse I am teaching to jump, he is basically a 3 year old when it comes to jumping, even though you make mistakes, its the horses job to look after you in the end. All this is good progress and it will be brilliant practice. Dont be pressed to make it pretty, just get over the obstacle and go yay I survived. You are doing great, dont put yourself down! :)

She’s just so green & she likes to stop at everything the first time & sometimes the 5th🤦🏼‍♀️🤣. you did so well, she’s going to be fantastic! You are doing so well! And you are incredibly brave, it’s not easy bringing on a baby. My four year old is soooo like Addie, and I can completely relate to how you feel; it’s such a huge responsibility and you worry every little mistake is going to turn into a lifelong problem! She was incredible how she came down the steps and her jump into the water was epic. I think the hardest thing when you are not sure whether they are going to jump and then they jump so big like she does, is it makes you ride in a defensive position with your weight back and your lower leg forward, which then means you will often get left behind when they do jump; so difficult to get that balance, I struggle with it too.

Oh Emily. Firstly let me say that your vloggs and instas always get me smiling or a little chuckle. I can't speak for others but your total transparency is relatable to us. The ups n downs of hoses whether that lola, addie or ginger lady spritie
Them ditches are a personal evil, in my head and I always tense up to them.
Bless addie. You both will blossom and make a great partnership as she learns where her feet are.
Can you get dad to make you some sort of ditch in your huge field or half a ditch in gateway
    And or a step xxx

Not sure if this has been suggested before. I always start my youngsters off bitless especially when jumping. Mainly for the reason you gave on being afraid of shocking them in the mouth when they are so unpredictable when they're learning to jump. Also, taking them cross country on the lunge and not under saddle. This is so they can sort themselves out without the interference of a rider being unstable due to the unexpected way they might jump. Riding and riding with a bit can then be done with more confidence. Good luck

I think you was looking for "solidify". Don't feel too bad about the ditch, sometimes we need to go away and recharge out minds. And as you said will help in the future to give you the kick to not represent :) she's such a lovely girl and you'll do well together, especially once your more confident in each other :) xx

You make me laugh Emily just now when you shouted out I ain’t jumping that lol. Now you listen here never ever doubt yourself she’s a baby and babies need their mummy to show them what to do so chin up with her she won’t break! As Fred said don’t baby her when going over jumps make her do it. Your a very brave rider you just had a small blip here we all get those days but I believe in you she’ll teach you a lot and you her. Enjoy yourself she’s going to turn out a fine gutsy jumper. Tfs😎🏇😎

You will work it out! It is so normal to be careful while you get yourselves on the same page. I have two that jump me out of the tack and I find holding my neck strap helpful (I have even held the reins in one hand and the strap in the other on occasion). I had a lovely 5* rider remind me that even he had doubtful moments and it is normal. Just keep getting out there and doing what you do. You have a lovely seat and you are an intelligent rider. Steady building trust with a youngster is what wins in the long run.🍀

I'm really loving watching your honest journey with Addie! Don't put yourself down, you are a class rider and you are bringing her on lovely. I completely get what you're saying, it's such a nerve wrecking feeling when you're expecting them to put in a massive cat leap over a fence and you don't know what to expect! You remind me a lot of myself when you said you got cross at yourself, I know that feeling for sure 🤣 keep doing what you're doing! Xx

I've been bringing my baby horse along too and I'm on the same emotional roller coaster as you! Never underestimate the power of just going out and doing things. My horse has improved so much on our outings and it has helped us learn about one another and really start solidifying our partnership. You did a great job with Addie. Please don't think you're 'ruining' her by chickening out once or twice at the ditch. We are allowed to make mistakes and those couple moments are so small in the grand scheme of things. What matters is that you gave her multiple positive experiences over the ditch and really, from what I saw, the day was an overall success. I also need to work very hard to not beat myself up, so I completely understand that mentality. Definitely keep focusing on the positives and have fun with the training. Easier said than done sometimes, I know!

You beat me to it with this one. XC training is the one thing I haven't done yet with my baby horse. So you've done me a big favour because I'm sure this is how we'll be. Its such a big learning curve for them, but you handled it so well. Its really difficult to hold your position with all that going on underneath you and you did it. Well done!

  • @nixequestrian3721
    @nixequestrian3721 2 ปีที่แล้ว

The highs & lows of youngsters, aye! Still you both did well & the whole point of training sessions is for stuff to go wrong, so I'd take your weariness of the ditch as a good thing personally. It gives the person (in this case Fred) a great opportunity to really dig into the issue & help you work around or over come something that could slow or prevent your & Addie's progression moving positively forwards.
Thanks for taking us along & sharing your lesson with us despite it not being perfection incarnate- that takes both courage & humility, which is to be admired.
Looking forward to the next vlog.

I love how much you talk to her when riding. I sing to mine to keep him relaxed. Ill walk in the barn and sing his name softly and he gets all excited lol
edit now that Im at the end of the video: Emily, it is 1000000000% okay to be unnerved or scared. Do not beat yourself (easier said than done I know). These are 1000lb animals that dont speak the same language as us, and we choose to partner with them and try to achieve great things with them. You cant do everything perfect, and I am no where near your level but I can relate in a lot of ways. my OTTB is the most proud little gelding, he will test me on absolutely everything. I go home so frustrated that I didnt do something correctly or that Im not brave enough to tell him what he needs to do and when to do it. I know its hard to not be tough on yourself, trust me I get that. But you are doing an outstanding job with Addie, and you wont do everything perfectly first go. Just think of your experience with Lola and how much you learned with her and probably apply to your time with Addie

Addie is learning and so are you. You had a confidence wobble about doing the ditch, and you're entitled to have doubts. But, you both managed it and she jumped it so much better after a few more attempts. Didn't Addie go down steps on your Fun Ride? So, again she's learning. I think at the end of your vlog that the word you may have been trying to remember is 'solidify' and drill it in to Addie's brain to set it for future memory. If that makes sense? You really are doing a great job with her, Emily 🙂 There is something that I've been trying to work out and that is you said you had two falls on the Fun Ride. I saw the one where you came off Addie and from Tina's footage I saw her capture Addie, but what happened with the other fall? I'm so glad that neither of you were badly injured 🥰🐎

On thing my trainer makes me do when my girl is being wiggly is back up from the fence so she still has to face it but she can get some room. Not turning away just backing straight and then sending her forward.

Oh Honey. You are probably having after affects from falling off on the Fun Ride. Don’t be too hard on yourself. She is a very young horse and you have had a little scare. Well done for persevering and recognising that perhaps you were not helping the situation.

Neck strap?? Brought back trauma with a young thoroughbred i had 25 yrs ago at a trakhenen with a big ditch totally overfaced ourselves, the trainer was awful and actually became a complete bully with me and my horse. I think schooling on foot, lunging over jumps and doing every jump with a lead is the best way for confidence and hacking hunting and having someone professional riding her sometimes, that you trust completely. Addie is a young horse and dont be hard on yourself, even take a trainer to help you lunge over cross-country jumps anything to make these first steps as smooth and enjoyable as possible.. you did very well all will be OK xxx

I agree. I think it's important not to scare them ir ask to much. Lungeing is a great way

It’s so hard when you come into something on a baby, feeling like we might well just to go into orbit 🙈. I think you deal with it very well x

Might a neck strap help? Give you confidence that you're not gonna catch her in the mouth? I think you are so brave and I know you can teach Addie what she needs to know 👍🏻☺️🤗
