That's the thing. The magic fire could tell who's an enemy and who's an ally. But once everything around them is on fire, that's regular fire and it doesn't know the difference.

Seriously well-done.
Right, but Rowan was right that he can’t use it in the boss fight. Rowan would catch fire himself during the fight and be stuck tanking the boss while taking enough fire damage to kill him in 30 seconds even without the bosses attacks.
I like how instead of getting out of the fire to argue they stay in it because I’m assuming if they got out of the fire to argue that would just be outrageous.
But they probably saw no point as burning is most likely a status effect and once you have been afflicted it effects for said duration regardless of if your in contact with the source So why move the fire on you gonna burn for a fixed duration and is most likely the same duration as the patch of ground (Fireball burns area for XX amount of time if enemies or caster enters area they will receive burn status effect for 100% of remaining duration caution caster can be killed by this effect) It effected Rowan as they were arguing before the spell cast so game no longer classed as friendly
I noticed the short came out this morning, and then the video early afternoon (according to my timezone.) That gave me some deja vu too, but there was no glitch in the matrix, just a glitch in someone's brain-pan.
Maybe the fact that he blasted below his feet and hurt himself, the spell then hurt allies. Had he shot it at Rowan and not hurt himself, the fire would then be friendly. Can't wait to see what you guys think of next, I have seen 'friendly fire' on games be a different color, like green fire.'
As a healer main, I had to watch a second time to actually hear the conversation. The first time I was yelling at them to GET OUT OF THE ******* FIRE! Nether of them get my heals any more. I don't waste mana on such stupid DPS.

I always find that hilarious when a spell with massive damage output is completely fine to use, but now it has a continuous effect by either changing the ground to have a burn, electric, poison, ice and so on. All of a sudden, it now hurts everyone around the target. Meanwhile, there are a few games with that exact same mechanic that will allow you to use spells that hit one target and the one behind them for damage and you can use your allies as a target for the piercing effect without hurting them.
In D&D, sorcerers can turn off friendly fire on area of effect spells with Metamagic. A popular strategy is to have a tank aggro a bunch of enemies and cast fireball centered on him while he's completely surrounded. Spells and skills that increase defense and attract enemies are especially useful.
What they show us in this video are games (like BG3, or a DM) that use the interactions between spells and the environment. So your spell doesn't hurt your allies, but if the forest burns around you, you will burn with it. 😉
@@Phoenixqc79 and BG3 is fifth edition D&D. Sorcerors in BG3 can cast careful spells with metamagic to not hurt allies with their huge area of effect spells. That being said the character in this video is clearly not a sorcerer, looks like a ranger. Lol.

I love how BG3 made the Evocation Wizard just made allies immune to all AOEs instead of the 1+Spell Level Chosen Creatures. I assume you still have to deal with the extra effects, such as lighting grease on fire or freezing blood/water or electrifying blood/water, etc.
This reminds me of when I got the Mistral Mantle in D&D, and was like, "Oh, damn! I can cast sleet storm, I'm immune to the effect, can see normally, and the ground isn't difficult terrain for me? Hell yeah!" So I used it in a boss fight against a dracahydra (hydra, but dragon heads). Well, the rest of my party was not amused by this, as they were not immune to the obscured vision, cold damage, and had to make the saves to keep from falling prone (slipping on the ice). A bit of an oopsie, lol.
Reminds me of Battlefield Friends, when Noob and Simon were camping on a roof just for a molotov to get thrown at them. They were screaming even though it was friendly, which their team told them about. Engineer: "What color is the fire?" Noob: "BLUE, THE HOTTEST KIND!"
Well caster should take damage as that's self damage and that's different to friendly fire So was expecting one to be fine and say oh your right I'm fine and notice the caster is cooked

You know, like a "pro" player who doesn't want to get in direct danger while slaying monsters high above his or her level :D
I mean, I think the hellfire spell is green, so I imagine it's not the spell that caught the ground, and subsequently them on fire, just the heat produced by the spell. If it was green fire that stuck around, I might think that since an ally was who was targeted, that might've influenced the target party of receiving damage. (Edit): TL;DR, I think it wasn't the spell, just the heat from the spell, and/or the party member was the target. It's like how being pushed off a ledge won't kill you, just the sudden stop. Or saying a bullet won't ricochet onto a teammate accidentally, then non-accidentally shooting the teammate.
There's a running gag in my DnD group that my characters only seem to die to Fire damage when its friendly "Fire" damage but never to anything else. It's gotten to the point where the DM said he'll just give me an item to make me immune to fire damage from a friendly source cause he's tired of my characters dying to other party members and not the monsters we fight.
The spell not dealing damage but the fire it produces on the ground doing it is the most videogame thing ever lol

Bug report: Terrain effect structure doesn't store initial cause's ACL ID. This leads to caster and friends taking damage from secondary effects.
