Jane Torvill and Christopher Dean really achieved PERFECTION in many of their exhibitions. They were very creative and managed to synchronize their movements immensely. Wonderfull to watch them, as they are always surprising us with very bold and original dance movements.
It goes to prove that who will win on the day is known beforehand. It’s devastating for the ones that should have won, not to worry, when you are two people who changed the face of skating, two people who will never be replicated ( 45 years on they haven’t) and there was no one like them before. ❤️ from 🇦🇺
*they* should've got the gold medal!! No one can ever beat their performance!! This had real charisma. This was like a medley of Mack & Mabel, Barnum, Fred & Ginger, and others. Those final marks were so disappointing!! But the crowd etc were booing the judges, not Jayne and Chris. So I really don't want Jayne & Chris thinking "We've let everyone down" because they haven't, it's the judges who've let everyone down. But even though Jayne & Chris took bronze rather than gold or even silver in 1994, at least they still went away with a medal ... If they went away with no medal at all during their last skate in 1994 then that would really be upsetting. But they'll *always* *the people's world ice skating champions"
If you’re watching this and wondering why they’re so great when they didn’t do a single set of six twizzles or more, watch their FEET. See how close together they are, and perfectly synchronized. 🙂
It's because it's ice dance and not figure skating. 2 different disciplines. Ice dance is set to a musical rhythm, no throws, jumps etc. Figure skating is twizzles and jumps.
Does anyone remember any of the other dancers???!! I don't!! 30 years later, this is still mesmerising & still the sense of injustice at how robbed they were!
This infuriates me. THEY WON! This proves that judges are corrupt. The first female figure skater to win an award was a British housewife Madge Syers who came in second to Salchow. He was so impressed he offered his Gold Medal to her because he felt she performed better than him. British Skaters are the best!
Their marks were low because some of the judges thought Chris Dean performed an illegal lift. He didn't, but they chose to score it that way. But the lack of high scores on artistic performance was just sheer bigotry. There was no better pair out there for artistry.
Amazing, too, considering that lift became almost commonplace in recent times! But even more amazing is that Torvill and Dean are still in great shape! There's a video of them skating to Bolero, with updated lifts to fit today's rules...
Actually, I think it was more than one lift that lowered the scores. And I never understood how Grishov and Platov ever beat anyone. I never felt any chemistry between them, and I thought her skating was incredibly ugly.

They broke boundaries and the skating authorities hated them for it. They are/were ice dancing geniuses. There has never been anybody better.
Still lovely to watch after all these years. Two of the very best skaters.
Nothing like these two, then and now. How I miss this "pure" dancing process in ice skating.
