    If you have to use society finch to raise the gouldians babies , do you have to do it while they’re still in the egg or can you wait to see what the parents will do.

    Nice birds and great size flights! We don't pronounce the D in Gouldian.

    Hi, you mentioned you were going on a trip. How long can you leave them unattended if you want to go on a holiday? Will those water/ seed container feeders suffice or are gouldians delicate and need fresh water daily.

      It all depends on how many birds you have, the temp of the weather, and the size of your food trays. If I am leaving for more than 2 days I will have someone come and give fresh seed and water to the birds. Fresh water everyday is recommended and the birds can't go more than 1 day without water or they will die.

      Are you breeding Gouldian finches? What is the diet that they are on? What temperature do you have them at? If they are gouldians are their beaks the right colors? (females beaks should be a dark or almost black color, and males should be a shinny pearly white). Also are they in an aviary or paired up in a cage? With some of this information maybe we can figure something out as to why they aren't breeding for you.

      Hmm sounds like you are doing the right things. What is your room temp at during the day? Have your gouldians gone through their yearly molt this year? Im trying to think of why they haven't bred for you. There is a possibility that your pairs don't like each other and thats why they aren't breeding. Do they fight at all? Or maybe there is an underlying health issue with the birds and that could be why they aren't breeding.

      well i live at the coast and although its summer we still get fog and in the morning its pretty cold as well as at night but during the day its fairly warm about 20 degrees, do you recommend i improve the temp and at what temp. they have also not yet molted

    • @birdnerd
      @birdnerd  6 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you can improve the temp that would probably be better and may trigger them to breed a little bit more. Also Gouldians won't sit on their chicks after about 1 week after hatching so it needs to be warm enough so they don't get chilled at night and die. Also if they haven't gone through a molt yet this year they may not be ready to breed also.

    Do you breed for profit?

    • @birdnerd
      @birdnerd  6 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I don't breed strictly for profit. It is a passion and a true hobby for me so i'm in it for the birds and not the money, but I have tried to set it up so that the birds are paying for themselves and I don't have to keep putting money out for them.

    Just got a new pair. How long does it take to breed a new pair. I read a year.

      One bird has a red on it tip and the other has a black tip. Not sure which is male or female. Just learning.
