One of her best album
The fact that she briefly sings horribly out of tune for a few seconds at the beginning actually enhances my respect for her, since it makes it clear that she’s not using auto tune or touching things up in post production. This song was a magnificent introduction to the second era of Taylor’s musical career.

That was interesting. I specifically wanted to hear this song live because it seemed like it would be a challenge vocally. Those first seconds I was like it’s obviously live and she is failing. She recovered nicely and then rocked out. Love this song.
i feel like she was probably having an earpiece malfunction or something because there’s no way she didn’t hear that she was totally off key and didn’t try to fix it. and the way she misses a couple words then improves
@@neonxvices I think maybe the bass started in the wrong note, after the first bars still wrong but then when changing at the line "...and all we know..." it is just misleading to the melody being sung. It seems to be off like half a tone but she still sings it good until that line. But since the voice melody follows (or gets carried away by) the rest of the music she then sings the next verse line ("...is touch and go...") in the wrong key.
I think this is why she doesn't sing the next line ("... we are alone...") just to make sure she doesn't sing again off key, but the musicians are at that point all back in track wholesomely at point and she quickly picks it up with "... with our changing minds...".
The next time the note in question is hit (at "...or fades in time...") all string instruments and keyboard have been hitting the right notes already. The rest is good history :)
Such an issue can happen to best of live interpreters.

For Red you can tell she tries to embrace the popular Hipster culture with through the looks and aesthetics of her album and fashion, also while making fun of it in songs like 22 and WANEGBT. She appealed to all those young millennials living in the 2012 tumblr era. She’s a genius
And last year she adapted with our daily quarantine life wearing clothes you only wear at home and singing us comforting and melancholic songs that feel like lying down or sitting comfortably at home

It's just a C5 it's far from a high note it's more of a mid belt but then again here it's lowered the original note is a tone higher

I will say this is probably one of my favorite openings out of all her shows, coming up just behind the Eras Tour.

As a fan (and my first Western idol) since 2008, her voice changed drastically. Back in the days she could sing the high notes just like what is in the released audio. 🙁
