    Hi, I think you keep mistaking Transparent sienna with Transparent Ochre. Actually those 3 paints are Burnt Umber PBr7, Transparent Sienna PR101 (not transparent ochre PY42)and French UltraMarine PB29.

    • @LouiseDeMasi
      @LouiseDeMasi  ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I did- sorry for the confusion. It was Transparent Sienna that I used. No idea what I was thinking- you get something in your head and you can't get it out. Thanks. ❤️

    Wow the giraffe is gorgeous! Only 3 colors, gosh I have got to start trying to do more limited palettes with my painting subjects. I tend to use way too many premixed colors. I am surprised that you don’t have any greens or violets in the palette, but I guess mixing them would be better. I struggle with mixing up my own colors when I try. Just got to keep practicing more. Thanks for sharing this wonderful information.

    • @LouiseDeMasi
      @LouiseDeMasi  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thank you Colleen. I find greens are definitely better when you mix them yourself. The only green I find ok to use out of the tube is sap green.

      I agree about sap green bu also must say phthalo green whilst garish by itself can mix the most amazing greens with so many colours

    I also bought this palette and have chosen my favourite colours across brands to fill it. I love how it is set up in form of the colour wheel which should help with mixing. It’s huge and heavy though! Your painting is lovely! I’m happy that you like Schmincke paints, they are beautiful to work with and great for layering. I think it’s transparent Sienna that you use - the transparent ochre has a funny texture and is much more yellowish. I really like the Schmincke transparent brown - it’s the only brown I actually use for mixing and it makes wonderful neutrals with their Phthalo Sapphire blue (which is their red shade).

Going to pull out some giraffes and give it a go again! Thank you! Love Shminke paints and your three choices. Ceramic palettes are the best! Stay well. Take a holiday soon. Hello, I am really happy to see that you are going to use Schmincke horadam colours. I am from Germany, so it is logical that I starter with schmincke colours, last month I added some new colorurs from m. Graham. I love both. Now I'm curious if you will love the Schmincke too.

    Very beautiful 🥰. I‘m a total beginner and have a question. Why do you have very similar colors on your palette such as prussian Blue, phtalo blue and helio cerulean or Transparent siena and burnt siena? And do you generally mix green yourself? Thank you 🙂

    Thanks for this tutorial, it was very useful, are u doing a full version on Patreon for us? I do hope so, I love this Giraffe. How are 7 finding the Schmincke Horadam? I have them, I do like them very much plus some of the granulating sets. I nearly switched brands as u use W&N and it would be easier for me with the same colours etc. But I think I'll hold off until I hear your verdict on the Schmincke as I do like them better! Thanks if u get the time to respond. 👋

      Hi Paula, so far I am loving them. I really love the French Ultramarine. Its granulating effect is superb. I don't plan on making a full-length tutorial of this painting for Patreon I'm sorry. Just letting you know that I clicked on the links for the colineo brushes and the arches watercolour paper and the links 404'd. I'm in Australia and I don't know if that's the issue as a lot of the Jackson's items they can no longer ship here now that they have a store here (due to stupid geo blocking by other companies who have deals with manufacturers). The links to a few of the other Da Vinci brushes seem to be working. I love Schminke paints. I have the gouache and a watercolour set of 12 pans and they all perform like magic.

    • @Jlalode
      @Jlalode ปีที่แล้ว

      Oooh! It is Transparent Sienna rather than Transparent Ochre. See 4min20. Transparent Sienna is made of PR101 just like W&N's Burnt Sienna so that's why you get a gray.

      Thank you! I'm not an oil painter but I don't see why not. I think a lot of oil painters stand at an easel when they work and many of them work with a wooden palette that they can put their thumbs through and hold as they paint.

    @martinanelsonartandpsychol6478 ปีที่แล้ว

    Thank you for your tutorials. Very helpful! Question: What has changed, so that you are not using sloping well anymore? I was debating with myself, if I should get some. @Bonnie3533: That’s funny I am also from Germany and started with Schmincke and lately bought some M. Graham (and Qor) colors to extend my painting experience. Love them all!!

    • @LouiseDeMasi
      @LouiseDeMasi  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      My pleasure and thank you!. My method of painting has changed. I never did much mixing before. I used to use colours straight from the tubes and if I needed the colour to be at its full intensity I used to wipe my wet brush over the hardened paint. I liked that it went hard on the palettes with the sloping wells, because the paint was sitting up the top of the well it didn't get all gooey and sticky. It was how I taught myself to use watercolour and it suited me back then. Now I know how important it is to use semi-neutrals and mix colours and I'm quite happy to refresh the paint with water and also use freshly squeezed paint when I mix. So I no longer have the need for palettes with sloping wells.
