Cardinal fan here. Utah should have been in a different bracket, they would have gone much further and obviously vs Stanford in the semi or final game. UTAH vs STANFORD was the championship game!!
Eh, it's always easy to way "What if!" in all of these tourney moments. With the logic you use here, that means that Illinois, who took Utah to five and played a hell of a game against them, was the third best team in the country this year, since they played Utah to the same level that Stanford did... If Illinois wins just a couple more points in the first round against Utah, then maybe they'd have pushed Stanford in the sweet 16 and won the national championship... the thing is, they probably wouldn't have- Utah had seen Stanford twice recently, so of course they weren't afraid and came with a solid game plan. Illinois finished SEVENTH in the B1G, and Utah struggled mightily against them, but Stanford went on to beat the B1G's #4, #3, and #1 teams in succession. I don't think Utah had the talent this year to go on that kind of run. Next year though- when almost all of these players are back with a year under their belt... it's gonna be a great year for Utah in 2020... assuming they play :P
I agree! I feel they were seeded way to low to have finished 3rd in arguably the 2nd best volleyball conference in the country. The fact that the went against Stanford in the round of 16 and pushed them to a 5 set, really shows their strength; especially when Stanford beat every other opponent in the tournament in straight sets
@@kennpeters2882 illinois seeded at 7 doesnt reflect anything about their post season play. They had Jacky Quade, Flemming (both two of the best players AND servers in the country at the time, not to mention their BEST server in Kuper imo best server of the 2019 season) Prince who played OUTSTANDING in post season, and the plethora of amazing D/Ss at their disposal. theoretically, Illinois was actually one of the best teams in the country. They suffered a lot during season because of the loss of the BEST SETTER IN THE WORLD Jordyn Poulter who just changes the chemistry and makeup of a team. and also star middle Bastianelli. Two very important positions which illinois had a hard time finding replacements for.
Let’s put this into perspective. Utah beat TWO, not one but TWO final four teams in two days. Illinois (final four 2018), and BYU (final four 2018). That’s incredible in it’s self!
I'm sick of the selection committee! they always punish the PAC-12 teams and make them play each other in minor instances, or send them to always play outside! Utah didn't deserve to be with Stanford, they had to send them to Texas and fight for that spot in Final 4. Utah vs Stanford the real final for me!
True. After they played it was just sweep after sweep after sweep against the BIG 10 teams. Utah has a better RPI than a lot of those schools. Got robbed for sure but this was def a championship game.
To be fair, B1G fans can make the same argument about Wisconsin and Nebraska facing each other off in the same regional. I do believe Nebraska did not deserve the 5th seed. I also find it interesting Nebraska will be hosting the national championships AGAIN this year! WTF! The NCAA knows Nebraska has a huge fan base and they only care about how they can make the most profit. Other schools should be given a chance to host.
I mean the match utah played before this they went to 5 sets; as the commentator said sometimes it makes you stronger or wakes you up and you go on a roll...stanford didnt play weaker teams they had just caught on fire at the later stages of the tournaments. Wisconsin was serving tough and out-passing stanford and stanford was scoring more out of transition than anything which was unbelievable to me.
@@ajollypanda4175 Wisconsin had no block especially on Plummer who was lights out offensively. Even on out of system plays with two blockers, plummer was still scoring. AROUND and down the big block of Dana Rettke. It was plummers match tbh, but ofc Gray setting was almost perfection, everyone supported very well, oh and u cant forget Morgan Hentz. One of the best teams to play in NCAA.
Not a volleyball expert, but the key to a good team seems to be having a great setter and Saige is so smooth out there. Having a great libero doesn't hurt either.
Watching this game you'd think this was a sub-par BYU team, but they are playing seven All-Americans in this lineup. Miller, Lake, Gneiting, Eschenberg, Bower, Robinson, & Ballard-Nixon. Just goes to show how incredible this Utah team was. This lineup or 2006 was their best ever!!!
watching this in the age of coronavirus --- utah could've had a near perfect sideout pecentage in the second set had it not been for classic byu reffing.
Amy Gant (Steel) was such a fantastic player during her playing days at BYU. She was a dominant MB. Nice to see her...after all these years now covering women's volleyball!
BYUs block was NON-EXISTENT in this match. The complete inability to get more than one blocker up on Utahs backrow attack along with the middles leaving huge seams for Utahs pins allowed the Utes to have a field day.
Maybe if BYU's had a setter like Saige maybe they'd live up to the hype 😉 number 9 for BYU just transferred to be able to with Utah's superstar setter 😁
@@stevecox7462 In 2018 the semifinal vs Stanford, I just remember she was the other OH and she was just completely exposed and destroyed by the Stanford block (granted it was Stanford). a year later, she looks like she hasn’t made any progress. yes Utah played flawlessly but she just looked like someone who shouldn’t be getting floor time
At 58:33 Anyone notice the player almost get knocked out by the ricochet? She gets hit right in the chin. Oh never mind they mention it like right after.
utah's post season games were incredible and they played soooo clean this night
I can definitely see Dani Drew’s go pro or even play for USA. She reminds me of Robinson a lot.
honestly, if Utah beat Stanford, they could have won the championship
their match with standford was incredible. Best match of the season.
Huge fan of the cards here
Anything could have happened but that means Minnesota could have also been in the finals if stanford had lost to utah...

BYU Really underperformed. They looked lost..they just giveup since the second set.

Utahs Setter🔥🔥🔥

Why do they talk about Madi Robinson like she’s not capable of being on the court.
