Sounds all good and dandy, and I agree with a lot. But I still think all future landmasses will be in between all known landmasses, for gameplay and map reasons. Just general wow reasons, rather then lore reasons. So keep that in mind folks

    Here's my theory:
Keeper Tyr knew about the forbidden continent of Avaloren. He mentions it in his letters to Odyn, and why it was pointless to chase the Titanforged heretics there.
He likely told this story to his vrykul servants who followed him to Tirisfal, as they were fleeing Loken's forces and Yogg'Saron's servants. The few still uncursed vrykul were also protecting the stunted children born from Vrykul women in the north, as a side- effect of the Curse of Flesh. King Ymiron had just denounced the Titans, and declared these stunted children abominations that needed to be destroyed. Their mothers sent them away with Tyr's servants, to keep them safe.
Tyr fell, and the remaining titanforged vrykul built his tomb, and swore an oath to guard it, while at the same time watching over the children they had sworn to protect. These children grew into adults, and after many generations, the first human tribes were formed on the eastern edge of Ancient Kalimdor. Trolls, tol'vir, and mogu, and later night elves and pandaren built their empires, while the human tribes lived relatively isolated, closely watched over by the vrykul still guarding Tyr's tomb. Sometimes, one tribe's bravest would visit the vrykul. They would tell stories of brave Keeper Tyr, who gave up a hand to slay Galakrond, and ultimately gave his life to stop the forces of evil, and secure a future for humanity. Though the vrykul would ultimately either break like machines, or die as mortals, this one human tribe would live on to tell the tale of the Silver Hand, the Giants of Old, and the forbidden land east of the continent. This tribe would later be known as the Tirisfallen, in memory of Tyr's fall, and they would continue to guard his tomb to this very day.
Eons later, as the continents had sundered, and humanity found itself on what would later be known as the Eastern Kingdoms, the Arathi tribe united the human tribes under one mighty empire, under King Thoradin. One of Thoradin's most devoted allies was the Tirisfallen tribe, who were the most spiritual. They passed on the stories of Tyr and the forbidden continent. However, in the Arathi language, the titanforged name "Avaloren" became "Avalon". The name is important, as there's a Scarlet Crusade town on the eastern coast of the Eastern Plaguelands named New Avalon, during the original death knight starting experience. I doubt the devs back then gave the name any meaning, other than it's a reference to the secret island where King Arthur would recover, until he's ready to return, and liberate Britannia from its enemies.
I believe the name "Avalon" lives on in human folklore, especially in Lordaeron, within the Scarlet Crusade. They named their easternmost settlement "New Avalon". Why? Because they've heard stories of a secret continent with that name across the sea. The Arathi believed in this tale. During the height of their power in the Eastern Kingdoms centuries ago, their king sent an expedition east to find this fabled landmass. They were successful, because the Arathi had just discovered the Holy Fire. This light- based energy powered airships that could pierce the mist that kept this forbidden land hidden. However, they were- for some reason- unable to return.
The Arathi expedition set a new foothold in Avalon that slowly evolved into the new Arathi Empire, while the old empire in the Eastern Kingdoms dwindled. For some reason, the king abandoned the Holy Fire, taking the secret to his grave, like the real world Byzantines with Greek Fire. The old empire split into the Seven Kingdoms we know today, yet the tale of Avalon lived on.
So there's a new Arathi Empire on the forbidden continent of Avaloren, or Avalon, as the Arathi might call it, ruled by a heavily Light- aligned emperor. We can only speculate what event on Azeroth constitutes as "Renelash", the final battle, that caused the current emperor to send out an expedition that ultimately got stuck in Hallowfall. Even the crystal Beledar is a mystery.

When we travelled to Argus back in Legion, we could actually see the entire planet of Azeroth from there or aboard the Vindicaar. And the full rotation of the planet allowed us to see everything. Assuming we've spendt at least a few weeks there, it should have been more than enough time (even if we were busy) to figure it out if there was some uneplored parts of Azeroth.
I know it is only an ingame model, and they might not have planned for this continent back then, but lorewise we should have seen something no ?
Unless we were so unlucky that a storm coverded the entire unexplored part of Azeroth during all this time , hidding it from us.

Yes, the whole planet would obviously have been mapped by now... but Bilzzard gets bored with their own established lore. There's also a backlog of races that should have been made playable by now but instead they pull things like vulpera and dracthyr out of their asses.

Not if there was tidal locking of a sort in place meaning only one side would have been seen, much like our moon or certain satellites hovering over only one area. Which makes sense, the people and areas they were concerned about were in one spot. Why risk missing anything happening there because you’re rotating around to the other side of the planet.

To add to the “Arathi as Villains” theory: there is a quest as part of the sojourner series where you, Anduin, and Faerin are trying to set up for a game of lights gambit. While on the quest, Anduin compliments the Arathi technology and mentions to Faerin how he’d like to meet their mother empire someday. She replies telling him basically that you’d better hope you don’t because although the expedition is friendly..it’s by necessity. The empire is not tolerant and is implied to be extremely xenophobic. Kind of getting Germany circa the 1940’s vibes…

There was a World of Warcraft map from 1999 by painted Chris Metzen. In that map Kalimdor was a lot smaller than today, but there was a huge continent to the south of it called "Ulduar". They recycled that name and reuised it in Northrend. But at this time, Chris had plans for an MMO, simultaniously with the development of Warcraft 3, that's why Warcraft 3 was marketed as an RPS (role playing strategy) with the inclusion of heroes with abilities and levels, and campaign missions that had quests. Theramore and Durotar are on the map, long before Warcraft 3 even came out.
Anyway, if we get that continent, it needs a new name.

when youre doing the quest for the lightforged draenai and you go to their ship. If you stand at the top of the platform and watch azeroth spin you can see that continent west of Kalimdor covered in clouds. I spent a while watching 3 rotations so they were hiding an easter egg in legion :O

I'm guessing we could see the Light Emperor in a Patch or atleast in another expansion where we finally see a landmass that is huge like Northrend and Pandaria.

  • @TheMrToxin

Very likely is that Avaloren is the Arathi homeland, it even sounds like it in the name. So they'll probably add it just like Mechagon in BfA, or Argus in Legion.

If the storm is actually Titan created we know exactly who is accountable - Golganneth, Titan of Seas and Storms. The one Titan we've known the least of what he did. Golganneth is always just kinda there with literally no purpose. Khaz'Goroth is another petty passive Titan but we know at least that he created the dwarves.

What if what we've been building up to this whole time is that we have been listening to the whispers of literal world of warcraft satan, and all the documents, the speculation, all of it was intended to weaken our resolve and trust in the titans, the actual good guys. If everything is being told from a perspective, then the titans being the bad guys is also a perspective. Also, we have only once dealt with actual titans, at the end of legion. All others have been titan keepers. We have no idea how long its been, or how far the keepers may have strayed from the the titans original plans.

I’m still all for Arathi emperor to be brought into the alliance/ horde in a similar way the pandaren are neutral. There’s no reason we should pull another stupid color revolution where we take the reject faction and help them kill their own leader & society, so sick of this..
#1 holy light wielding dps caster mixing: fire/holy, arcane/holy, time/holy
#2 Thoradin not killed but brought to understand the current fight for Azeroth and allows elite Arathi (half elves) to venture out of the empire by choosing horde or alliance.
#3 No more pathetic & emotional rejects as our heroes, we need solid paladin knights that will endure great hardship in a war against the void.
#4 everyone would love the Arathi emperor in our main story as a secondary like genn greymane or bolvar, his on-boarding has to be excellent though, and honorable to stand side by side with turalyon who knows maybe they could get Anduin to embrace the light again.

You know why LOTR is considered the greatest story ever told? Because it had a start and end and every detail was told to the readers. There’s no massive time gaps with literally no lore in them. Things like wow and Star Wars do this because of capitalism. Leave massive time gaps in a story, fill it with sellable product later. It’s bad writing. That’s why Zoval sucked, it’s why xal sucks. Blizz can’t write a linear story, they can’t foreshadow literally at all. So they need to just Mary sue the new characters into “oh actually they’ve been relevant the entire time it was just forever ago and you didn’t know about it”
My bet is world soul ends in disappointment
