    Thank you for making this video. I have 8 grand children of varying ages from 16 to 3 yrs of age. They all love making things with me and this is a brilliant idea to show them how to experiment making moulds and making there own glow in the dark shapes etc. Thank you once again x.

    I had a go with this silcone rubber+corn flower filth and it turns out really good for makeing molds and if you shove polymorph plastic into the molds it holds shape much better and does not stick , It also sets a lot faster than latex rubber type moulding and could be cheaper :-)
    Thanks for inspiring me to try this unusual mixture.

    Those glow-in-the-dark powders get everywhere and especially for the bright green one (which has the best brightness) is visible everywhere in the dark if you don't handle it properly. Those are damn hard to clean up on white or bright colored spaces because it gets transferred to the mop or vacuum cleaner or broom you are using to clean it up (not mentioning the hand you're using).
    Plus, since it's usually a fine powder, it gets trapped into hard-to-reach places.
    Once I spilled whole bottle of it on the floor (I wept somehow) and stepped on it so my foot was glowing for next three days :D

    Thinking of then having them all in three different size glass jars with a string of LED's in them with an external power supply. With that then have them powered on over day and turn them off at night. That'll make 'em light nicely! :)

    Hi there,
    just wanted to leave a positive comment :-)
    I really like your videos and the way you're presenting your things.
    - You do remind me of Bob Ross (the joy of painting) .. and i hope you understand this as a compliment ;-)
    And to end with a warning:
    i had only worked 3 or 4 times with 2K epoxy over a few years without wearing gloves...
    after the 5th time i got red bubbles on my hands/skin. - Got a direct allergic reaction to it now :-(
    So "better be safe than sorry" on these things, and don't get in direct contact if avoidable.

    • @bigclivedotcom
      @bigclivedotcom  8 ปีที่แล้ว +13

      +Psi Q Thanks. A lot of people have mentioned Bob Ross, and I must admit I enjoy his videos too. I always try to avoid contact with resin, mainly because of the nasty sticky sensation.

    • @slimysi99
      @slimysi99 8 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The resin component isn't so bad- but the hardener is the nasty part. I've moulded epoxy putty for years as a youngster without gloves- now work with epoxy professionally- so hoping I don't develop sensitivity as you have :(

    I remember as a kid I found that if you set off a camera flash near these things they'd glow much more brightly for a lot longer afterwards. Seems like it's not the duration of the light that "charges them up" so much as the intensity.

  • @TrasteIAm
    @TrasteIAm 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    A shortcut would be to mix up the silicone, mix in the glow-in-the-dark instead of/together with the corn flour and skip making the moulds, just shape the pebbles with your fingers.
    The end result would be soft pebbles of course, and not as lasting but they would glow. :)

    AWESOME! probably best to measure the pigment first. I also wonder how much the weight varies between epoxy tubes. like if you had 3 of them would they all the same amount? I assume they are close enough to call the margin of error pretty much 0. I never considered using that cheapo epoxy for small casting like this!

    I was taught, when adding powder to resins, mix the resin first then add the powder. The reason, if the powder is porous and you add it before mixing it might absorb a portion of unfixed resin which "might change the cured properties of the resin/matrix, also it might upset the cure, by changing the chemical reaction. That's what I was taught anyway.....

    These are like capacitors, but for light instead of electricity.
    What if a 4.5mm top hat LED were embedded, and set to strobe twice every second.. they would surely keep glowing all night from a small rechargeable button cell and a tiny 3V 35mAh 40x15mm solar cell.
    Hmmm. One day I may try it.

  • @JerryEricsson
    @JerryEricsson 6 ปีที่แล้ว

    For me, there is something almost magical about the glow of blue lights on a very dark night. The type of nights we had on the old farm where I grew up, a farm with no electrical power anywhere within miles, and after dark, the outdoors were a wonder to behold. Oh how I loved those dark nights, until my father, who was perhaps fearful that I would wonder away in the dark began telling me horror stories of what indeed hid behind that darkness, and what I might run into if I wondered far from our old house But one winter, we drove to a nearby small town, and one house near town had all blue Christmas lights around the dark home, that was when I found the magic of holiday lights. There were large signs beside the highway, some that glowed a wondrous blue when the headlights hit them, and to my young mind of perhaps 5 or 6 years old, that too was magic. Now, when we are forced to stay in our sticks and bricks home in South Dakota for the winter instead of our norm of escaping South-West to Arizona, I shall once again decorate our small ranch style house with all blue LED lights to bring that magic back, once again, in hopes to awaken that magic in the mind of another young skull full of mush.

    I think should remain fairly malleable after cooling off the problem here might be keeping the stones from sinking in the glue.

    • @bigclivedotcom
      @bigclivedotcom  9 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      The resin is any cheap two part resin that you can find that dries clear and in about 5 minutes. Mine was common dollar store resin.
      The pen is a Pilot Fude-Makase brush pen, model number SVFM-20EF but don;t get too excited, it's a fairly typical fine tip pen that does produce differing line widths depending on how you use it, but it's not a brush in the expected way. I actually prefer the thicker line of the V sign pen version.
