Thanks for the pep talk, Morgan! I’m in a similar boat right now. I passed FM on the first try, then got my first actuarial job this past summer. I started studying for P shortly after, and just failed it for the second time and am feeling pretty discouraged. It’s nice to know I’m not alone. Thanks and good luck going forward!

It's always really good to know we're not alone! It's understandable to feel discouraged. Definitely a very natural feeling. I'm going to retake it sometime here, so hopefully I'll get it this time! I appreciate the good luck wishes. Good luck to you as well! Definitely let me know how things go :)

Hi Morgan! I am starting to prepare for exam P. This is the first actuarial exam I am taking and I have been using coaching actuaries! I know failing is a possibility and I just wanted to let you know that this video highlighted that possibility because there are so many videos that show people passing the first time but not many failing the first time. Thank you for this unironically you lowered my stress about passing, I will keep studying and hopefully I will pass!

I'm so happy that you feel a little bit better about it! Just do what you can in terms of studying and then whatever happens happens. Best of luck to you!

@@MorganAdair I took it today, and I got the email saying congratulations you have preliminary results were passing. I am so happy right now, I would like to thank you for you coaching actuaries video since that helped me pick that software, and I do think getting an earned level 6.5 and mastery level of 72 was necessary for my success. Therefore, thank you

Hi Morgan, My name is minyi. I passed FM in October 2019 as an undergraduate. At the beginning of 2020, I have a stroke and aphasia. In my last semester, I have to stop going to school for a year and I have to relearn everything. I failed exam P 3 times, and I won't give up. come on, you got this!

Oh my goodness, Minyi. I'm so sorry to hear that you've had to go through all of that. But great job with Exam FM! I believe in you so much, and I know you'll pass Exam P eventually. Like you said, don't give up! You got this. And thank you so much for the kind words! I have faith!

Hi Morgan, I’ve failed a couple of exams (IFM and LTAM). I think it is very rare to get through all of the exams without a fail. And, people don’t like to go around bragging about how many times they fail but it’s definitely out there. There are generally more people failing these exams than passing them each sitting. With that said, I’ve learned that time management and skipping questions and coming back to them when you are not sure has been a very helpful strategy. I’ve failed when I didn’t execute these strategies. There were also conceptual things I may have been on the weak side on and you go back and get those down as well. But, I think it is also possible to fail when you know everything well enough to pass. So, keep up the hard work and you will get through P next time!

    Hey Morgan!
What are you doing differently that you weren't doing previously? And what do you think was the hardest part of Exam P?

    • @MorganAdair

Hi Josh! Good question. Basically, I'm doing many more practice problems/practice exams than I did previously, trying not to "cheat" and look at my notes while I'm doing the practice problems, and being sure to focus more of my energy on the topics that come up the most instead of focusing equally on all of the information. I thought the hardest part of the exam was trying to discern which type of distribution to use to solve those kinds of problems. It wasn't too hard for me to remember the distributions themselves, but it was personally difficult for me trying to choose which one I needed to use for particular problems. I hope this helps!
