EA and big business corporations have seeped into our beloved videogames. This is heartbreaking. Games are supposed to be our escape from work and business bullshit but guess thats not it anymore. This is a dark age for gaming.
As someone who watches most of your videos, I have to say that I laughed the hardest at this one. Absolutely hilarious, and I appreciate you standing up for the consumer and using comedy as the vehicle to get your point across. I know you probably don't have time to read all of these comments, but this video was great and made my day a little better, and I just wanted to thank you for that.
this was hilarious but also informative. I might have done better in high school if this guy taught all of my classes with his informative rage sessions.
What makes the patent even more ridiculous is that Sony is too greedy about money to realize that theyre actually losing money by doing this. In order for someone to buy a game "used," someone had to buy it new first. But after theyre done with it, they give it back, and someone else purchases the game. By patenting used games, they make expensive games completely inaccessible to players on a tighter budget. So the money they could spend on a used game, stays in their wallet.
Who cares aside from hardcore PS4 fanboys?? The new consoles won't come out for another 5-7years and I'll be 34 by then but better point: Just don't buy the new consoles if they patent no used games, I'll stick to PC gaming if they patent no used games and if people are smart they'll do the same so those companies lose money and if they don't catch their folly then a new company will make a console that caters to the crowds so they can make big bucks.
Yuppers. ... just like blockbuster video... bye bye my beloved gamestop. ... and with Sony's vision of thier stategic plan to eventually go with all streaming.... I'd say in fairness it would probably be marketed on a monthly membership. .. levels of discount. .. bla bla... they all will do it
You can't own another living thing. They're not consumer goods to be bought and sold. They're not property. They're above monetary value. They're not toys for your amusement, or tools to use as you please. We're not their owners, we're their carers.
I feel the same way francis does, do they honestly think we're made of money? why are video games so expensive these days, a single game can cost up to 60 or 70 dollars nowadays, not to mention it costs like 80 or 100 dollars if you pre-order it. not only that, but the Xbox One costs 400 dollars, and the PlayStation 4 costs 300 dollars, but that's nothing compared to what the Oculus Rift costs, (cough) 600 dollars. I have a Wii U because it was a low price, only 200 dollars, even portable systems like the Nintendo 3ds can cost up to 400 dollars, seriously, why does everything have to be so expensive?!
honestly if you think 60 -70 bucks is bad, come down to australia and be prepared to buy a 100 dollar game that hasn't got anything special, it's just the base game.
PS4: "hey guys, we're putting a patent out on used games so no one can use them" Xbox: "holy shit that's a great idea, we'll do that too!" (6 months later) Xbox: "ladys & gentlemen we are making it so you can't play used games at all anymore" PS4: "we aren't, you can trade in old games on OUR console just like before" Xbox: "you mother fuckers!"
"I got Red Dead Redemption when it was brand new, this is like one of the best PlayStation games there ever was made." "I got this when it was-This FUCKIN' SUCKED."
Other animals don't belong in the entertainment industry. Not only is it extremely stressful for them, and wild animals are abused until they submit to human will, but how dare you deprive them of their life.
He's gotta point. Limiting used games will kill a lot of promising game companies. Instead of buying the game used and possibly liking the studio's work enough to support future content, people will be buying trusted titles only. Extremely high prices were already enough to warrant limited purchases of video games. This is will kill game trade-ins too. Sony and possibly Xbox are going to lose a lot of money in sales. I'll stick with Steam and their great deals. I can trade games and content.
9/12 - red dead redemption 12/12 - Batman arkham city 1/13 - Bioshock 2 + Mortal Kombat long time - LBP2, Uncharted on PSV and many more 2nd quality (limbo, vanquisher, bulletstorm..)
Pet isn't an insult. That's horrible. A pet is an animal of another species, in your family, that you care for. Species is irrelevant to family. Humans are animals, and no more special than any other creature.
This was made like 6 months ago. Although the patent is owned by Sony, it does not affect the PS4 in any way. You CAN play used games on the new console. Good guy Sony. Patents used game chips so Microsoft can't use it.
cant you somehow remove the chip or what happens if you swype a magnet over it so it might not work or something? and what happens if you need to buy a new ps3?
If you want to diminish secondhand sales, support your titles after they're in the hands of your consumers. I'd think twice about selling a game if i knew that there would be more to it a couple of months down the line for no additional cost.
The fact that they were interested in doing it alone should be cause for concern. Just because nothing has been announced so far doesn't mean it wont happen. It would be stupid to immediately jump to Microsoft because Sony may have decided to do it since Microsoft also planned on doing the same exact thing.
Are you their banks? Do you know how much money they really possess? Remember, a game might be 60 bucks, but divide that into like 8, the company behind the actual game is only getting about 15-20% of the profit back considering the costs that go into manufacturing, licensing, publishing, shipping the game out to multiple retailers, the retailer's cut of the profits, so on and so forth. The company only ends up making about 10 bucks per 60$ game, so in the end, no, they really don't have a lot.
without used video games most of the popular games wouldnt have hardly any players on them i dont play call of duty but say if i want to start playing black ops 2 i cant do that because the game came out years ago preventing me from playing it say if a parent buys their kid a ps3, the kid wont be able to get any games for it until a new game comes out making them spend over $60 its pathetic and wont be added as its going to be stupid
Right, because even though SONY CONFIRMED they will allow used games wasn't enough. If the 720 requires online to function, the moment they stop supporting it, it will become a big paper-weight. So personally PS4 is looking promising, versus always online. Sony has no intention of killing GameStop because they're a major source of sales figures. I have been with Sony since 1996, and I've yet to pay for their online. (I own a 360, PS3 &Wii U so I'm trying to be fair.)
I agree with you Francis, but as long as people are willing to pay $60 for a new Playstation game, they're going to charge that much : /. We as gamers would all have to get together and go on strike and start a revolution. Sony, Microsoft, Nintendo.. fans unite!
Sony ONLY said used game should work on any console. They said nothing about online passes for single player, and that could happen. Sony also said they were going to do the right think, but also do somthing do make the developers happy. I think online and single player passes for used games and activation is were things are going.
Something like this has future to potential to push PC gaming more into the market. PC gaming will slowly make its way greater and greater into the market.
Honestly. I think this will hurt Sony's sales. I can't imagine anyone but true hard core Sony fans sticking with them for now. I see a lot of people jumping ship to Xbox.
So what is this going to do for rentals? They just won't carry Sony games anymore because it would be impossible to let the same disc be used by multiple people? WHO COMES UP WITH THESE IDEAS
Yup, Gamestop said they will not sell Sony's PS4 or Microsoft's Xbox 720 if they make it where we cannot buy used games. I don't blame Gamestop for saying that because that can put Gamestop out of business if this happens. I don't go to Gamestop that much, Maybe for a SOE card for Planetside 2, But thats about it because Gamestop doesn't sell PC Games. Maybe that will change and they will sell PC Games if this happens with the PS4 and the Xbox 720. Sorry, I am running out of characters here.
Its not confirmed for the ps4 but it is for the new xbox. Even though this is a bad technology for consumers, one theory is that since the developers are getting all of the money from their games, brand new games prices will drop
Guys just because they filed a patent doesn't mean it's going to affect people. Sony cares about it's partners, which is GameStop and such. GameStop has a major revenue from used games, and would be angry with Sony. Sony tried the exact same thing with the PS3 and you see how that worked out.

Video games are turning into a rich man's sport.
You can't own another living thing. They're not consumer goods to be bought and sold. They're not property. They're above monetary value. They're not toys for your amusement, or tools to use as you please. We're not their owners, we're their carers.

Exactly. Microsoft expressed an interest in it, but didn't do it. Sony did.

Its been 3 months since Boogie uploaded this video. Sony killed the rumor. The PS4 WONT block used games.

Well this alleviates my fears that the Xbox 720 was going to have this mechanic. Thank you Sony!

I bet these chips will also cost money to implement, which means prices will be raised for console games again.

the reason i switched wasnt just because of the patent/used games rejection
My friend made a gaming PC and it only cost him £300 with the monitor included in the price
no sony had a conference quite awhile ago stating that they basicly scraped that idea because sony actually listens to its customers unlike microsoft
Its not confirmed for the ps4 but it is for the new xbox. Even though this is a bad technology for consumers, one theory is that since the developers are getting all of the money from their games, brand new games prices will drop
